Am I the only one who finds the guy doing this interview to be completely cringy?

He was a flaming asshole. I once worked on a film crew that hired him to make a motivational film for a large corporation. We were set up in his office and he was late. We waited for hours. When he finally arrived, he was completely disagreeable and changed the entire script. I remember how it was always a special honor to have the drum major escort a person on the field to be the "dot" above the word Ohio formed by the marching band at halftime. Good old Woody was once selected for that honor, this after he went out on the field and punched a player on the opposing side.

I was listening to the local sports radio station here in Minneapolis a few years ago and I they were talking to Bob Stein who was on the ‘67 Gopher team (and later was GM of the expansion Timberwolves). Anyways, he said that after they beat Wisconsin that afternoon, they were watching this Indiana-Purdue game on tv in the locker room with great interest as Purdue was driving at the end and a Purdue score would have sent the Gophers to the Rose Bowl. He said the mood in the locker room changed quite a bit with that fumble at 4:48

Not me and i saw it as matter of fact whenever i see a documentary on him or ohio State football i always have to think for 5-10 minutes "whatever happened to him" Woody Hayes IS Ohio State football.

Bob Knight, he said it, 80 minutes. He wanted this team ,mature and clicking on all cylinders, by Christmas. His disappointment this team's total concentration ,then lack there of, was spot on. You need mental toughness at both ends ,for 40 minutes, to win. The Genius of coach Bob Knight.

Wow! I only knew Woody Hayes from his on-camera outbursts. I didn't realize how devoted he was to educating his players. He also has great rapport with his players, which you wouldn't guess given his reputation after his firing. Thanks for posting.

No coach that deserves respect would have done what Hayes did. Hayes is the precursor to what Ohio State is today. Play teams that have no chance to beat them. Beat one low ranked team and try to cry their way to #1. Ohio State thus year2023 barley beat ND in a low scoring game. Not like those 40, 50, 60, and 70 point wins against teams that have no chance. Ohio State does this every year. I wonder if Ohio State remembers playing LSU three times in a national championship and losing three times. I wonder if Ohio State remembers playing Florida in the national championship and losing twice. It’s time for Ohio State to step up and prove themselves. Stop playing Toledo, Miami of Ohio, western Kentucky, and the local fire fighters football league and prove your worth. I saw your coach saying look at this team look at what they did. They scored 17 points. Came from 1:36 to win. Is that special. Seen teams do it in 36 seconds. Ohio State is the most coward team in college football. You want people to believe what you say about yourselves then schedule some SEC teams. I doubt that will happen. Ohio State will go on being ranked the #1 blowhards is college football but not the #1 team. They won’t get past the bowl games cause they have to play a team like they have not played all season. Ohio State cannot handle the SEC.

People who claims that Woody was racist never met him or studied his coaching career. He brought the black players to OSU way before other coaches. If you could play with everything you had, were a descent player and tried to get good grades, then you were his type of player.

Funny thing is IU played awful on that two-game road trip Alford spoke of. They won both, but did not play well at all, and Knight tore into Alford after that pair of games.

I have wanted to see a video of that IU-UCLA game since 1975 when I watched it live on TV as a high school senior. All I have ever seen of it is Knight talking about it in front of swaying banners. Can someone please find a copy of that historic game? It was unreal watching the long invincible Bruins being obliterated -- and by my state's team! I'd like to see the whole game again just be sure I wasn't dreaming that night!

He had a bad habit of getting physical when he was angry, otherwise he was a great man and a great coach. I really like Woody Hayes and he was a great man. Listen to him speaking to his players about the word apathy. People don’t talk like this anymore. The physical stuff never bothered me but I come from a different generation. I’ve been smacked for being stupid and it never felt like abuse.
