This is called stonewalling. Stating that you need time before returning to the argument and addressing it when you are ready in a timely fashion is healthy. Deflection, avoidance, deference and word salad are all toxic. Address the issue, acknowledge the points being made and accept that you are in an argument and it is about coming to an answer about something or a solution. It wouldn’t be an argument if both parties agree to discuss and problem solve. It does not always take two to tango. Sometimes it’s just one person getting emotional and trying to drown out what they call noise but is actually a factual rebuttal. There are times where an argument is actually an attack and utilises toxic behaviours such as gaslighting or anything DARVO. Not everyone who uses toxic or fallacious argument styles is antisocial but they definitely have insecurities and trauma. Unless they’re a psychopath or a narcissist (npd) they have empathy and can step in your shoes when allowed to calm down and think about the situation critically. Some people react instead of respond. Although we cannot attack the individual for their need to escape liability, accountability or the emotional stress of forming a proper rebuttal. We must still call out the behaviour itself for what it is. Shutting down discussion disregards any other persons involvement, feelings and input and is toxic. That doesn’t inherently mean the person is toxic, again. They may not understand at all what they’re doing. Highly unlikely but probable

No. The trouble maker can go but will have severe restrictions on activity. If we go to Disney world the other kids can get on what ever ride they want but the trouble maker only gets 4 rides for the day. The other kids can get whatever food they want but the trouble makers is restricted to 2. You don’t waste your money by not allowing them to do anything but you also discipline them by restricting the fun. It’s an example to the other children and for the child themselves.
