This is hard to believe , the German infantry do not use mortars or artillery or even grenades to keep the snipers head down. There is no counter fire, target indication or even covering fire seeking fire superiority. The only tactic seems to be to Just jump over the top and charge heedless in to death. Even then well trained troops would rush the enemy with pepper pot style tactics and accept casualties until they had overwhelmed the snipers and taken the position. This is not a realistic representation of an Infantry assault. It’s rubbish basically

I think it was a kind of pride to die in their splendid uniforms. For their unconditional commitment they were given such great uniforms and expensive boots and breastplates. I remember watching this movie on television years ago and was amazed at how violent and disturbing it was to me at the tine.The armored Lancers looked so impressive, splendid and si handsome, lije true Heries and then seribgbhow in this movie that they were so easily slaughtered! Back to the young soldier who is bayoneted at 0:40. I did some research into bayonets at this time and they were thin and long like in this scene. The blade easily entered his belly maybe even through his belly button (pausing the video makes it appear it is in his belly button) and went all the way through his guts and out his back. I hope his blond friend survived this battle and came to see his friend as he was probably laying dying in an aid station. If the battlefield remained quiet for a few days he could have stayed with him until the young man died. With a belly wound like that nothing could have been done to save him and like I said previously the pain would have been severe.
The young boy who we see pushed over at 0:06 and is obviously dead, is he killed in this battle?
At 1:22 is the bayonet stuck in that young soldiers guts?
