I'm on Minoxidil for around 5 months now, have light-baby-like beard, very light and patchy - but I did start from nothing (literally almost nothing apart from moustache and tiny goatee) so it def works. I'm committed now to do at least 12-18 months. I also use - one word: you should leave your skin Minoxidil free when you use derma roller for the skin to recover over night (skin recovery will take a week).

call your insurance ask them the status of your appeal. when they tell you they don't have it throw a stink and ask tem can you resend it. if they say yes then get your doc's and call the trans center and expain the situation. if you didntbtake copies of your docs. Fill out new ones with the original dte... go from there. this is just what I would do. good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Your voice really sounds much deeper. :) I'm not transgender but I love when my legs are hairy so in stead of shaving I just bleach them and people don't seem to notice them as much or bother me about it but I can still feel the hairs so it makes me feel better. Maybe next time try that in stead in case you still can't pass (but you should pass by next year, i'm sure)

Maybe when you lose the weight, your face would appear more wrinkly, but for now as it is you totally look almost twice younger than your age! I never would've given you a day over 20.

You look good! Yes, you don't have a female 'squeak' like you have had in the past, lol. I mamed at PRIDE a 8 months into T...my therapist said it's probably because of all the butches and I favored more them at the time. Yeah, I didn't get mad but it just kind of blew me away until my therapist said that and it made sense. Congrats on this new journey!!!

Also, good on you for exercising and completing your goals. It definitely helps the mental health stuff. I too, was surprised by my bipolar diagnosis, but I have found taking lamictil really helps. Crossing my fingers and toes that you are on T by this time next month! <3

Where do you live? Any doctor can prescribe it, if your doctor won't do it, he is DISCRIMINATING AGAINST YOU. Ask him if he would prescribe it to a cis man who had low T? I guarantee you he would. He is lying to you if he says "he can't prescribe it". Take charge of your healthcare and INSIST on what you want. I did. Who knows how long it would have been before I got on T if I did not insist on a prescription immediately and I also schooled them about dosages. Everything I have I got by taking charge and not letting anyone slack off or discriminate. You can do it, too. Doctors think they wield all the power and like to make it difficult for anyone they don't see eye to eye with but that is discriminatory and I really think you should call him out on it! Would be good to go to someone that one of your friends went to if you can get in right away but they may not be taking new patients. I'm just saying that even though you are not in a rush, it seems as if you may be sort of letting others such as healthcare providers dictate your path and just remember, YOU dictate your path, even in a state that is not as liberal as Washington where I am! A step that would help you as well is to make sure that in your letter, the therapist calls you "he" and "him" and never by female pronouns, and also states that you are sane and able to make healthcare decisions for yourself, and that you are considered MALE by the therapist and that they agree that you need testosterone as part of your ongoing healthcare. Would also help for you to change your name (if you are going to) and gender legally. Glad your mom is cancer-free. Too bad that someone else told some of your family members, unless you gave them permission to out you, they should not have done that. Sounds like it may have worked out ok though.

Hey, I'm glad to hear the pathway has begun for you and transition. Although it may seem slow, its begun. Keep talking and moving forward one step at a time! I'm sorry to hear about your Mom. Sometimes challenges make us dig deep into our reserves (even those we didn't know we have). I have a step dad who had throat cancer and I was the one to juggle the schedule and take him to chemo, then radiation, dr appts, etc. I'm here to listen if you need me. As Charles points out the challenges will be physically, emotionally and spiritually for the both of you. Just remember: if you come to a point where you think you have no more, stop take a deep breath, look up and take one step at a time.... just keep looking forward understand there's a reason for everything. Take care buddy. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family!

Hey man, I'm glad your appointment with the gender therapist went well. Where in Michigan are you? There may be other options to get on hormones besides going to the university that will be covered by Medicaid. I am really sorry to hear about your mom's diagnosis. I know how hard it is to be a caregiver - there is a lot of emotional, physical, and spiritual strength involved. It must be immeasurably more difficult when it is a parent. My heart goes out to you, man. Message me anytime if you want to talk or just need an ear to listen. In spite of all the challenges you face, I hope 2015 IS your year! :o)

Hey. Around the same lines as others, I found that the breast tissue 'flattened' after about a month or so on T, for me. Im not the biggest, but I am big enough that I am obvious. After three months or so on T, I had times where i could go without binding and it still looked like i was. Binding will help a lot. If you can not afford the binders online, try the Big Brother program. It can help you get your first binder for free, you just have to send them your measurements. Also, you might be able to find somewhere in your state that you can go with a letter of consent instead of the route requiring the therapist letter. You might still need that, but it makes the process cheaper and easier if you can bypass it and go the route of consenting to treatment. And one more tip, the first few weeks/months on T go by faster than you thought they would. Before you know it, you will see some real changes and it will also feel great. I have even found a major improvement with my depression and how I process the challenges in my life. Good Luck!

Hey dude, good for you deciding what path you're going to take. I also debated for some time if I needed/wanted T, or if I was just going to do top surgery. It took a lot of debate but I finally decided that, in order for me to live as male, I needed T's help. Have you thought about reaching out for the money for your surgery? Insurance will cover part of mine, but I will still need quite a chunk of cash, and the recovery time means taking off of work, so I will need $ for that, too. Just a thought. If you have a support group around you, try reaching out and saying how much $ you will need and start a collection going. Think of fun things to do to get people to donate to you. I know it sounds like begging or whatever, but you might be surprised how helpfull people want to be... Good luck and lots of love! -Bear

Hey there, you've got a good concept on both sides of T and Top surgery. However, you have been waiting a long time to transition. Plus your right, get on board and face those things as they come. Binding is a bitch but looking in he mirror and seeing your authentic self is worthy of it all. Just take a deep breath and relax. One day at a time!!!
