3D Aeroworks 1200mm Pond Racer Maiden MRRCS 8/11/24
Finally! After several months of waiting I got the nerve to maiden the Pond Racer. She flew ok but the four bladed props didn't help. I'll try next time with the two bladed props.
Batteries were 3S 2200 packs. Might have to go 4S for more speed. She was a tiny bit tail heavy so adjustments will be made in future flights.
All in all a very smooth flying plane and has a unique presence in the air.

The Pond Racer on her legs for the first time plus motor run up. The spinners are temporary as they were designed for two bladed props. So to make the four blade props fit I had to customize them. Props were balanced along with the prop spinner hub. it's very smooth running now.

Well here is DC-6 #2. The replacement for the one I lost a couple months back. She now has a ply spar and made with the correct PLA this time. I'll paint her in the USAF livery as before. Graphics in hand. Maiden this weekend weather permitting.

Installing a thin washer in top of the screw head will prevent the ball link from coming out.

What motors did you go with? We maidened ours today, but the motors were a little under specced

We added M3 to my first one and already had to same thoughts for those flimsy rods you did if she didn't burn in lol! This next one is getting them though and some more upgrades. We have a love for modifying things. Thanks for sharing and have a great rest of your week! -Che & Ashley H.
Mine had one wing forward. None of the links popped out after the crash.
I need to add an addendum to this video and mention that the ball links used are NOT Dubro #860. The DuBro #860 ball links will have a larger screw than the one used in this video. It is an SAE standard US screw and according to the FB post it is mentioned to drill out the attachment points with a 5/64 drill bit. Also you can use a smaller outside diameter carbon rod. I just had the 5mm in my stock which worked out for my modification.
What were the exact ball links you used in the video (the white colored ones)?
Don't own one, this being the first video I've seen if the sweep mechanism. I'm very surprised at the size of the servos used to sweep the wings. Looks like a standard 9 gram servo. I would have thought a larger one was needed. Thanks for the video
The servos are actually 23grams . I stripped mine already and had to find a replacement since freewing was out of stock on everything for this plane.
@@Hype_RC oh right. Thanks for that. Still a lot smaller than I thought was needed. I'm building a scratch drawn model at the moment. 1/12 F111. I chose a 80kg standard size, direct drive servo for the swing mechanism. Seeing this says I've probably over done it. LoL 🤣. Thanks for the reply
Good luck with the build! I think the lack of size is a weight fit and cost thing. Models are overpriced but, the alternative is unacceptable. So I support these companies hoping they’ll stay around
@@Hype_RC yup, totally agree. I'm in New Zealand. It's hard getting hobby parts here, if you can find them online, shipping costs and import tax just adds to the cost.

Hello Perry! I am about to finish my project! I needed some help with 2 questions, what batteries are you using? And if could figure out the CG? Thank you for your support!
Hello. The batteries I am using are SMC 6200. As far as CG I haven't got to that point yet but the general rule is 30% from the leading edge. I still have to finish a few things before the maiden but I will post my progress as time allows.
@@ret737 Perry! Thank you for your help and quick response. I was thinking the same a 6000 mah 6s batteries so we are good. For the CG I will comment back to double check with you as some pilots from USA recommend a website jusy plug in the numbers and have an exact measure. I am having some help with a buddy here in Honduras, we are almost done with assembly just adding servos in wing and details of the interior and we are done. Retracts from zyhobby on ebay and they are the 3.0 kilogram versions.

Retracts from zyhobby on ebay. They were the 3.0 kilogram version. Struts from Motion RC for the Freewing F-35. You will have to add washers on the struts to give the correct height and clearance for the wheel well.
