ASKA Beginners Guide: First 3 days and Farm Rush
Is this available on android
Hi, this is currently only available on PC through Steam as an Early Access title.
Just had you recommended on youtube. Just started Aska myself so watching this has been great!! thanks so much. I love your editing style as well, appreciate your efforts greatly :D Subscribed and bell on
Hi, thanks so much for the kind words. You just made my day!
Fun times. A couple of thoughts: I tend to prefer the spiked club, and sometimes I use a shield with it, sometimes not. Damage output seems about the same. Also, I am sure that you are right with the skinning tip. I kinda feel that this will not last, as there's maybe something wrong with a game where you do better skinning by not using the skinning skill. (hmm, unless it uses the skinning skill with single hits like some other situations) In the meantime, I will continue to skin the old way, because once your skills get higher, it is quite fast. I kinda prefer the immersive aspect of actually skinning instead of stabbing, too.
You still get skinning skill ups using the melee attack (not shown since I probably hid the UI) but I agree it seems like an oversight and something they'll fix. Regarding weapons, I'll have to do some testing but I think the 2handers stun faster versus the one handers, but I would like to give 1 hander run a go at some point. Although after the Aska Alone series I kinda miss the bow lol
The skinning tip is great. Much appreciated.
Your welcome. Total game changer, right!
@@Ser_Bucky another 'trick' with skinning is using the R-harvest button, but, instead of holding it until complete, release the R button immediately after the first 'strike' then hold it again, repeating hold/release/hold/release...get the rhythm of it, and it skins even faster than using melee. Sadly, it doesn't work for mining or logging
@@cferguson37 Wow, this sounds awesome. I'll give it a go in the next episode (4 by the time I get around to it).
Still havnt found something to mine...30+ days through....fooking bears
You didn't find the mine yet?
@@Ser_Bucky Nope. When I have time to spare I adventure and explore the map which is damn huge but still havnt found a mine. I must have the worst seed in the game LOL
@@Daniels656993 OMG yes, cursed seed for sure but an interesting challenge! Let me know how it goes lol!
Another fantastic video! I made it through the first winter without a weaver. But I stockpiled food, firewood, and coal in the warehouse and blocked NPC access to control what went out. I assigned two NPCs with Winter hunting skills to hunt and a cook to barbeque the meat. When the meat source ran out, I allowed only the cook into the warehouse. I also made several covered campfires throughout my village to help keep everyone warm while they worked in the cold. I look forward to your next video!
Thanks for the kind words. I'm impressed by your management of the resources.
@@Ser_Bucky it has been a grind and many hours of playing. Fun nonetheless.
Fantastic video!
Thank you!
what is this? some kind of a dlc, expansion or update?
No, it's a trailer to my new playthrough series. ruclips.net/video/6maAnV5odeE/видео.html
If you consume any potion then save and load your game back up before the timer runs out, the timer will reset back to 10 mins. Great for the Ambrosia Elixr.
Omg that’s brilliant.
I enjoyed this but I personally like seeing a person do everything rather than jump cuts. Great video.
Thanks for watching. I appreciate the feedback.
ASKA is not a big game yet and you don't have lots of views yet but you will get there! Love your commentary and gameplay! Can't wait to see you do more, maybe other games as well :)
Wow, thanks for the lovely comment, that's made my day!! I for sure have plans to do more games eventually, maybe 7 days as I've played that one since Alpha 7 and would love to do a series on that. Also thinking of picking up Valheim since I see a lot of comparisons. Welcoming game suggestions too :)
@@Ser_Bucky You definitely give me the vibes of 7 Days for sure haha! Will watch out for the vids if you post them!
@@Metorial I'd have to edit out all my screams because I'm super jumpy in that game 🤣🤣🤣
the patch kinda broke the game A.I, so Im also tempted to try a solo run myself. It is doable if you can protect your stuff from smolkrs, which just means teraforming no reachable areas.
You totally should, it's very relaxing with just the right amount of panic moments. I'm def looking forward to doing another solo-series. And I hear you on the AI with the patch - I left day/year length normal in my new series for that reason.
I didn’t think it was possible but after mastering the bloomery, the game is so much more efficient solo lol
Totally!
About that Day 1 bear...You said this was Gates of Helheim, didn't you?
Haha yeah. I did not have a series name when I started recording then the day one bear coupled with the drauger invasion made it pretty obvious lol
Christ alive you are so pleasant to listen to. Wonderful video.
<3
A call to arms button would be so good !!!
Ikr! Or villagers who had any sense of self-preservation 🤣
@@Ser_Bucky id like to see a threat marker flag as well, like all other resource markers. Villagers would automatically avoid the threat marker radius, and ignore all resources within it.
Huh, that is a really good idea! You should post that on their forums!
@@Ser_Bucky i can't get to their forums on discord :(
@@beaverhart2566 Did you react on their discord rules page - or do you mean you can't even get to the discord. discord.com/invite/yayr8aN8JH does that still work?
I did notice that using the repair cordage from the inventory repairs the item more, compared to using it from the hot-bar.
Really? That's bizarre. Good find.
How do you dash? I know I got the effect on the starter island but I don't know how to use it.
Jump and dodge.
This is the way.
I can't figure out how to make the bronze axe. You need it for the hard wood trees. I also can't figure out how to make the bronze pickaxe. Think you could tell me how?
Yeah, of course. So you'll need at least the copper axe for chopping hardwood trees. So first mine up at least 40 copper ore and smelt it into ingots. Copper nodes can be mined using the Simple Pickaxe. You'll only need 20 copper ore for the wood axe, but you will need a copper pickaxe also so you may as well get at least 40. To make a copper axe (or any forged tool) you'll next need to build an Armorer Station using the Simple Hammer (recipe is sold by the NPC at the portals). Once you have the Armorer Station just interact with it and you'll see various tabs for items you can create; Weapons, Armor, Tools. You'll want to go into the Tools section and select Forged Axe - then craft the copper version first. While you're here craft a Copper Pickaxe too. Now that you have a copper axe/pickaxe you can gather hardwood and tin. Combine tin and copper into bronze at the Forge Station and then just repeat the forging process at the Armorer Station by selecting a bronze tool (or armor).
@@Ser_Bucky I made a copper Forged Axe but when I went to a hard wood tree it said I needed a copper axe. Thanks a lot, I'll try again. I'll subscribe, I can at least do that for you helping me out. 😉
@@Death72515 Thanks, I just tested in my game and a copper axe worked for me. If it doesn't work this time it might be a bug or your axe may be zero durability - idk. You definitely shouldn't need bronze axe to cut down a hardwood tree since bronze tools require hardwood to make.
@@Ser_Bucky I messed up, lol. One I was trying to cut was dark wood, you need bronze for that one. Now I have to try to find hard wood trees to make the bronze one to cut the dark wood trees lol.
@@Death72515 OH NO! lol, well I'm glad you figured it out.
Great vid 👍
Thanks 👍
Tempted to try this myself, Doing my first playthrough of Aska and I just seem to find myself looking after the villagers all the time instead of making any progress! Just entered Winter and one has already starved to death and the rest are decreasing in morale and I can't seem to improve it 😅
Do it :D The devs will be coming out with a patch this week (end of August) that allows for world sliders - so you can adjust the world difficulty to better accommodate a villager-free run.
Excellent!
Thank you!
Great video and series, most enjoyable; my only critique is that your audio needs equalisation, (speech vs music). It's pretty annoying having to constantly adjust the volume control, cheers.
Hey, thanks. This is an important critique for me to work on because I am deaf in my right ear and I find it really hard to tell if my voice/music levels are too high/low during editing. In the finale episode I tried normalizing all dialogue to a RUclips preset (I use Da Vinci Resolve). Definitely for eps 1-3 the audio is wonky since I didn't know that function existed for those. I'd be interested to hear if this is an issue on my next series now that I use the normalization function. Thanks again for the feedback though, appreciate you watching and offering good criticism.
@@Ser_Bucky Your last episode of this series was much better!
@@at6776 Great to know. Thank you!!!
Nice guide !
Glad it was helpful!
I'm so glad I found this on a reddit thread. Never would have thought to go about the game this way. I've been trying to really like Aska but I just can't seem to enjoy not knowing what is going on in my settlement most of the time. I feel like it's akin to running a daycare but all the children are kleptomaniacs and you don't know where your sled went.
That last bit made me spill my water lol.
@@Ser_Bucky 😅
I see what you did there: You rowed off into the sunset.
:D Off towards the next adventure!
I've enjoyed following your adventures in the Aska subreddit, great video and thank you for sharing :D
Thank you! Hope to see you in the next series.
2:17 Hearing the dog's scream just cut out was amazing.
Haha yes! Apparently you can harvest sound waves as well as corpses.
Thanks for this. It helped me figure out how to get 3-star critters more consistently.
That's awesome. Bunnies are still hard for me - small heads.
Another tip, when you are able to build a forge, interacting with it will repair everything in your inventory for free.
This is a great one!
OH!! Ok, thats how that has been happening! It was driving me crazy trying to figure out how that was happening. Thank you.
Thanks for the video 😊i need some help. What do they mean by contributed Stones / softwood and so on
Hi. "Contributed" items is their way of phrasing turned in/handed over. So for instance I am on the hunting 3-star buck quest and if I give Achaeus 3 bucks then I've contributed 3 bucks towards the amount being asked for. The NPC dialogue button for this could do with some work since it it hard to see/interpret at times. But it basically Contribute :: Give. When you fulfill the quest requirements the button changes to Complete I believe.
@@Ser_Bucky thanks

Oh my gosh, really! Thanks for the correction.
The Artifact monuments give bonuses to certain things . The problem is that you need a villager to operate the monument to get the bonus as it's an entire ritual blessing that's bestowed upon you . I enjoyed how you defeated the bosses as you didn't cheese a single fight like I did . Depending on the fight I usually used the heavy attack with my sword to kill most of the bosses . Are you going to continue your playthrough to the first invasion that happens during the 2nd winter? BTW the monuments are easy builds IF you have a cave nearby that you can sources all the stone from . Each artifact monument takes at least 14 stone in 3 build parts where the 3rd part of the build is adding the artifact to the monument .
Oh that doesn't sound too bad. My mine is littered with large stones.
ETA: I built them in episode 4. The buffs sound great for a normal playthrough, sadly they need continual interaction to keep the buff up so just really nice paperweights in a solo playthrough lol.
Ok, it never occurred to me to build the pits/huts and not assign anyone to them. Nice lateral thinking.
Brooooo. ALONE?! Absolute mad lad.
I am impressed that you managed to get 5 cottages built by Day 18. I'm not sure how you did that, or what part of how I do things would have to change to do that. I also note that your village is a lot more spread out than mine, and that seems to me to slow things down... Anyway, good job!
Yes, I built spread out in this game because I always build so compacted and it became a pain to navigate.
Thanks for the video! What an interesting concept! I always use the hoe to make a small plateau for my starting area (about shoulder height) to avoid being harassed by the small raids. When it comes to maintaining the farm and bloomery, I definitely would not want to manage those solo- both take way too long
I've not tried terraforming as defenses yet but its interesting and def gonna give it a go sometime soon.
That armor looks really nice.
For sure. the leather gambeson is awesome too but gonna take a loooong time to grind that high.
Kudos for working the bloomery solo- I couldn’t do it lol. I usually put two workers on it 😂
Thanks! It gets easier with skill. Considering the constant rush I seem to be in it's sometimes nice to be forced to sit down for 30 seconds lol!
with the way you were leveling your bow skills as you went along , I was pretty sure you would slay the bear . How far do you plan on going with this play thru ? What seed are you playing on and did you want a seaside seed at all? If anyone stumbles across this video and wants a seaside mine seed , leave a comment and I'll post the seed .
Hey, I have the next two episodes planned but they take AGES to edit lol. I'll keep going for a while though, probably just with bigger and bigger time jumps. The seed is Aska Alone. I'd love a good seaside seed, I'd be down to do a seaside series at some point since most of what I play and see is inland.
@@Ser_Bucky qtdwVIOwAORdvMhSpS6zhclFSSx0YeKU9qKWnF1dkRDVSz8x , go right from where you spawn and walk around the shore scanning a bit and you'll find it .
@@randoir1863 Will check it out. Thanks!
I have been able to keep the day 18 bear from doing any real damage by shooting him with the starter bow and getting him to chase me instead of munching on stuff. I don't think it's possible to kill him with that gear. But with the iron rush you did, it was!
I was so surprised by how much damage the longbow did - and those were bone arrows in the video! I left my iron ones in the workshop lol.
Day 18? I started a new seed last night and RAN INTO the bear in the middle of the night on day 1. Had to run through some thick trees to get to safety. He's still nearby, as things other than myself still aggro it. I think it's chasing every smolkr on the island my way, as well
@@Bayle_Bune Yeah I saw one on my first day to in the vid, hanging about the Jotun Giant circle lol. Never knew there were free-roaming ones, but there is a scripted one after a few weeks.
Thanks for your video, saw your comment on reddit and wanted to come take a look. Great info, great editing and commentary. I might take another try at Aska as I honestly gave up with how much of a pain just starting a game and trying to manage villagers was.
Thanks, appreciate that. And yes, the villagers being a pain was the inspiration for this series lol. Episode 2 is up now FYI.
You're a sexy beach! Great gameplay.
;)
This is the best Aska startup guild I have seen. Well done!
Thanks! What are some of your go-to's when starting a new game?
A seed worth checking out, iron mine is right up the hill from spawn. (Between 9 and f is the letter o, between p and k shortly after is the letter i. Both uppercase) zd8u4a9Of7HchpIkRAHVJC7NhqPkJrtqhZYboAww38pURymw
I'll check it out, thanks. Any tips on what direction to start of in? Another seed I saw suggested on reddit is Pug. I think it had a lot of mines in a small group.
Not really that good at the game tbh, can't make it past day 13 without everything spiraling out of control. I explored a bit to the south and found some wolves, not sure if there are any dens close though.
what about compost? Is it required?
Hey there. Compost is not a requirement at all. If i have spoiled food in my bags I'll go ahead and add them to the crops but haven't really noticed any difference doing so and i dont go out of my way to gather spoiled food from villagers or anything to add to the field. The basic set up will be more than enough. After a few seasons you can even go 2 fields or even 1 field of flax since you'll have literally thousands of fibers by that point :)
