First of all, I am not an Olympic althlete. I cannot relate to the blood and sweat and toil that it takes to make it to this level of competition. So you might say I have no place to cast judgment. But I was a competitive track and field athlete at the high school level. One thing my coach HAMMERED into us was that sometimes something like this may happen, but no matter what, unless you are literally too badly injured to do so, you GET UP and finish the race. He threatened to kick anyone off the team who ever did this. To me it is a deep, irrevocable and fundamental ground rule of track and field that if you fall down, you get up and finish your race, no matter what. And even more importantly, dammit, I am an American, and as such this woman is representing me before the world stage. She has been chosen amongst the best of the best to represent the best of America before the world. As an American, I am embarrassed by this behavior

Looking at the video it doesn't seem like any runner tripped her. So it seems she simply had an injury or is rather clumsy. Suzy Favor Hamilton faked a fall once she knew she wasn't going to win a race. Whatever the reason, it is now part of the Katy Perry olympic song video.
