Country Guitar LICKS AND TRICKS Ep. 3 "Brent Mason In all 12 Keys"
Welcome to the third episode of my Country Guitar LICKS AND TRICKS series. At some point in their country guitar journey everyone tries to tackle Brent Mason's song "Hot Wired." I recently worked out how to play the main lick from this song without using any open strings. This lets us easily transpose it to play in any key. Hope you find it helpful! Let me know below if there's other topics you would like me to address. Thanks for watching!

Keep the cowboy hat, total vibes! Remember, we wear trucker hats and most of us aren’t CDL over the road semi-truck drivers either. Love the channel
Thanks. Never thought of the dead note, make's a lot of scene sonically. Good job.
Great lesson & teaching.
Scott groves from groovy music lessons does a great job too on here u tube and Andy wood of course
A Fine Review without an over emphasis pn Overdriven and Effected tones like 90% of reviews are. Yours was clean, clear, and detailed. Much appreciated.
Wow. Telecaster pickup and bridge in a strat. Often wondered how that combo would sound. Looks like the best of both worlds Steve. Did you put that together?
Great teaching Steve .. kudos from Astraya mate
Man you coming on ! Got that level A pro picking in them hands! Excellent! It’s hard to explain but you come across as a intermediate player helping us learn but playing and teaching professional guitar! It’s crazy because it becomes possible to grasp and accomplish with your presentation and videos 6:12 TOP SHELF! Appreciate you!
Dude KILLER TONE with that geetar 🤘
This is right on my level. Cool video
Nice Strelocaster.
Thanks for the lesson
guitar awesome ❤
Outstanding tutorial I can’t wait to get started on this one thank you so much
It’s a bit of a stretch for the fingers but a good lick to know!
A Princeton with a 15” speaker is called : Stevie Ray Vaughan.
You could put a neo vintage 30 in it and make it 30 lbs
That telecaster looks and sounds a lot like a like a strat lol. Crazy, it's like if a tele and a strat had a baby. Awesome!
Really good, like the format.
🔥🔥
great job
🇹🇷❤️🇺🇲
This is awesome! Thank you so much!!
Can we have the tabs for the 3 Licks in the beginning? Very nice lesson, thank you for that!
Thumbs up! Thanks for posting this.
Great lesson and appreciate you playing lucky dog! -Anthony
Thank you man, loving this guitar! Some of the best pickups I’ve ever heard in a tele!!!
Hey Steve, awesome awesome playing. Thank you for all you have shared and taught me. Anthony at Lucky Dog is my first cousin and the reason I play music today. you definitely made the Dog bark, you are a fantastic teacher and I impatiently wait for every one of your videos to come out. From VA, take care.
Jordan thanks for reaching out man! Glad these videos are helping people learn this stuff, it’s not easy… Love the instruments your cousin is putting out.
You are funny my friend.
This guys got the timing nailed. Years of bad blues playing has warped my timing. This is great. Thanks for this.
Tele is closer to your body and more comfortable than a strat for me cause it's missing like 3 inch of the top horn of a strat where the strap button is.. on a strat it's parallel with the 12th fret the tele is like at the 14th or 16th fret
great hank garland doing the guitar work
Nice video! 🎉
Just ran across this video.... This is GOOD STUFF! It's my 2nd time watching, i fell asleep the first time, lol. (That's MY problem, not yours.) I've been trying to learn how to capture that "country sound." The part you just covered (flat 3rd & Maj 3rd) was very useful! At 12:10, where you start talking about "country bends," shouldn't you put them into context of "CAGED hand positions or shapes? Most ppl do, from what I've seen. But, qhat I've seen so far (from others) didn't go into enough detail. Ok, I'm just putting comments in as I watch the video, in case you couldn't tell... Anyway, using the Major pentatonic shape for bends makes sense. The minor scales is just too "blues-ie!" Thanks for pointing that out! Those licks with bends are good-uns! I like what you said about using the flat 7th, it's also used in blues & Texas Swampy stuff (lol), but to make it sound "country," ya gotta use that Maj pentatonic scale! Good point! Love it. Overall, this was a great lesson for capturing that "country sound." Really, really great nuggets included. Thanks! 👍👍👍 BTW, thanks for putting that "note" on the screen toward the beginning (wherever it was). It helped me to understand what the video is actually about. This was a whole shitload of useful nuggets for playing country-style music, esp for improvising!
Quality info that I was lucky to stumble upon…like finding a golden needle in a field full of haystacks.
Great and useful lesson ❤
Hey, Steve! I'm an old rock dawg...been playing a lot of years. Recently, I've decided to go more Country and, I gotta say, I have found your lessons and channel to be VERY helpful! Just the perfect amount of technique with clear explanation as to the "how and why." Very well done, young man...I look forward to your future lessons!
dude, I'd love to hear you play a entire tune. Do you have any video's of you doing that? Maybe with a band? You got some of the Albert Lee licks down. I'd also love to see you play some of those early Alan Jackson tunes. I've never seen anyone play like that up close. Thanks for teaching your chops. I'm more of a blues rocker, as the name says. However, I love some classic, country rock. Charlie Daniels was one hell of a guitar player. Loved this video, and again, I love your playing. Peace.. Joe
Thanks man! I know there’s some videos out there somewhere, I’ll have to look around and see if there’s some links to something.
@@stevetharms I know I'll watch them if you hook me up with the link. Just copy & paste. Peace.. Joe
Thanks Mr Steve another great lesson 😊
Thank you!
Really good. I didn't know playing the changes was an important thing in country. And then now having a really country lick. Good stuff!
Thank you!

@JA-ut8fi you mean practice practice!
Some people just like to take take take But Give nothing but crap. Cop on to yourself
Could you show us diagrams
You mean tabs? There are some in the video on screen with the exercise.
@stevetharms My bad You are correct,Tab's
Good stuff! This is the easiest to understand lesson I’ve come across for soloing over the chord changes. Will definitely start experimenting with this approach. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!!
Good stuff! Def earned my sub.
Appreciate that!
Really like the look of that filtertron style neck pickup. And it definitely sounds good.
It’s definitely unique for a tele. And sounds killer too!
Really appreciate this video. It's right where I'm at in my learning. I especially like how you put it all together at the end to show us how it works in a song. Stoked to keep practicing what you taught us. Thanks again!
Really looking forward to this series..... maybe some Bakersfield style ideas
Hmm some don rich licks maybe? 🤔
I think the "15W" on the rear panel is Fender telling you to use a speaker with 15W minimum power handling capability. They are building in a bit of a safety margin.
Lick 2 I also stole from Guthrie Trapp. It was included in a paid lesson on Artist Works. But hey, Guthrie Trapp, Daniel Donato,… all good company.
wow! great! thanks! greetings from switzerland🇨🇭🏔🤗😎👍
What’s this tune called?
