Alabo Peterside (1918 - 2016) was relentless in what he saw as his mission to protect Opobo’s political, ethnic, religious, cultural and linguistic identity. For this reason, he articulated the kingdom’s interests at national, state and local levels. In the quest to promote the Opobo Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage, in the early 1980s, he elevated Opobo’s music, song and dances to an art form ...
My parents loved these songs and it brings tears to my eyes remembering how my mom used to dance to these songs even though we're not from Opobo back in port Harcourt in the early '80s 😢
This is beautiful singing by our wonderful mothers 🤗😘
This is beautiful singing by our wonderful mothers 🤗😘
I loved these songs as a little boy growing up in port Harcourt in the early '80s even though I don't understand the language. God bless those wonderful mamas❤. They remind me of my parents who loved their songs 🤗

I am from the US and this music goes deep in my soul- so beautiful
I have told myself if the Almighty God continue to bless me with me longer life, I will try to restore our IBANI cultural language. A Nation that has lost his/her language, has lost its culture and heritage! IBANI must be restored, where everyone will write, speak and most cultural obligations and activities will be conducted in our beautiful dialect!!! jtsdrd, USA
