I drive the Corvair on the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Byway

To get home from the Lake Bowen Car & Coffee event, I opted to do something I have been dying to with the Corvair. I drove it on South Carolina State Route 11. SC 11 is the Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Byway and runs along the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I drove New Prospect to Campobello. #automobile #chevy #corvair #classiccars #scenicdrive #scenicbyway

I Change the Serpentine Belt on my 2016 Camry

I changed the serpentine belt on my 2016 Camry. This is a relatively easy 20-minute job. You’ll need a ratchet and a 14 mm socket. This is the same for 2012 - 2017 Camrys. Are you planing on any more parts refurbishment videos?
@@robertsimmons1716 not right now. All I have are more engine covers so it would be more of the same. The problem I’m having with selling the parts is the shipping.
That’s dope, got an 09’ too pushing 314k miles
note to self, when working on the car, try to be as comfortable as possible. bad video. yeah, I would have moved the car back a bit. you will have to show us the before and after or at least how they look afterwards. because the way you showed us is B.S. or C.S. and the C standing for Chicken. mike
Love to see how bright it is. Even better a before and after maybe against a wall. Too late for that I’m guessing.
This is cool I couldn't make it this weekend and bring my 89 Camaro IROC like the other 3 gen Camaro
You are welcome to hang out with the Pharoahs any time. Thank you for checking out all the cool rides!
Hope to see you next month! The Pharoahs Appreciate you coming out!
Looks like no more fuel problems it seems to be running good
👏👏👏 excellent
OK. Everyone. Use a thin wall socket, so you do not jam/touch the rocker, and get a false feel. Then spin the push rod while tightening the nut. When there is a slight resistance on the 'spinning' of the push rod, the slack is out. Turn rocker nut a quarter to less than a half turn more. Slop is now out of the assembly.
You should have shown the 'Vair! It would have certainly been unique.
It would have. But what I saw online about the meet made me think it was only for exotics.
And was it really only 19.99 for the day unlimited mileage?
you might want to get some solar panels, a few batteries, and charge it for free?!!
@@mkepler5861 way ahead of you. We’ve had solar since 2016.
Thanks for takking us along in your Corvair. Such a fun car to own.
We were there filming too. You teetered around Edna getting bits and pieces of her in your video lol.
@@adventureswithedna Edna is cool truck. Subscribed to your channel.
@bigalsgarage9323 hey thanks so much!!
Congrats on 500 subs buddy
Just curios. Are you going to keep track on electric use and see how muck it cost to run compared to gas ?
AWESOME, BIG AL!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE DA MAN!!! I'll be here with you!!! mike oh yeah, and bless you! 65 140 Corsa 4 speed
What year are the Camry and Corolla and your wife doesn’t have a great taste in cars lol
How do you set the unisyn gauge?
@@mcm730 you don’t. You just set on top of the carb and adjust your idle speed screw.
Alright, thanks. I think I have my carbs balanced. However I get an oil pressure light at idle when the car is warm, unless I turn the idle up a fair bit. I’m more money than I care to admit in on mine, but I think an engine drop and rebuild are my destiny. Well beyond my experience, and I’m admittedly frustrated, but too stubborn to stop. I’ll make this a reliable daily if it bankrupts me, haha.
@@mcm730 I would run a compression test on engine.
I have, and from what I can tell I'm golden there, the usual ups and downs but nothing even close to bad. Somewhat suspecting I may be losing some pressure from the pushrod tube o-ring leaks, but I don’t have any gushers. And again, the light only comes on at idle and with the engine nice and hot. Worn out transmission and leaky diff aside, it runs frustratingly well haha.
@@bigalsgarage9323 here’s a video of me cranking and idling it for a mechanic friend of mine who asked. It’s still hot from me working on balancing it. Figured I’d share!: www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/3yqvup4r9inc176ltu3sx/IMG_0398.MOV?rlkey=ijhhy2f3v2pqzpcp0k95bqgm2&dl=0
I’d like to be there but I’m in bed at that time gotta get up 4 am for work. I’ll catch the video later
Nice I watch the flooded Corvair too. Nice show Thanks
yes sir
Good to meet you this morning!! We need to get together again soon
Move over kid, I wanna sit in it.😅 3 subscribers to go.
What was the 1937?
@@Startemup it’s a Plymouth.
that's how u do it. luv the corvairs & fieros
Corvair 🥵🥵🥵🥵
But what does this have to do with the garage? On the plus side you’re so close to 500 subscribers.
My dad loved them. We had 3 of them. His, and he bought my 2 older sisters 1.
@@johnsteward132 my dad loves them too. He had a bunch of them back in the 70s when nobody wanted them. He talked them up so much it made me want one!
@@bigalsgarage9323 Ya... He sure got pissed at Ralph Nader for saying they were unsafe.
What did you end up doing?
@@brandonquinto4852 I went electric and I haven’t looked back.
@@bigalsgarage9323 Good to know. What pump and shutoff mechanism did you use? Facing the same problem
@@brandonquinto4852 I used a generic Amazon pump. It was $18. I also used the Revolution Fuel Pump Controller as a safety switch. I did another video explaining this further.
Those shocks with that spiral groove are original or original replacements I think you got your moneys worth from them
Take the wire off the sending unit if the gauge still stays pinned and checking the unit with an ohm meter
the Corvair is so cool/ fun for whipping around town!!! I can't wait to get mine back on the road.
just a heads up the nuts on the rockers don't last forever, I know that because I had to replace them. after adjusting the rockers a couple of times, and they kept clattering.
yeah, she sound nice, and yeah the pipes are too long.
you can use WD40, first spray it down the carb, it should make the engine rev up. try it on vacuum leaks, if you have a vac leak the engine will rev up.
stay with the black!!!
I'm on board with all that!!!
that's par for the course, mine is the same if not worse.
that flag emblem says 140, ah but you only have 2 emm 110?!!!
I prefer to sing that song as "smooth carburetor", followed by sounds of the engine reving up, instead of smooth operator
hey Al, you really should jack up the car when you do that, trust me it will save time. mike 65 140 Corsa
Awesome man! Reliable Corvair!
Chevy Monza. A blast from the past!
Very Useful, thanks big Al.
Wow I had no idea! I’m so naive. Thanks for the info.
500 is the magic # you say. Well you’re gonna get it soon I hope. The epoxies they have out. Now are pretty darn good
Yup trying to work on your car and dealing with your kids been there done that luckily I’m old and now watch my son deal with the same thing lol enjoy them while you and the kids are still young it goes by way toooo fast
