This Channel is primarily for Technical Tutorials for #Avenza Maps and this old guy is living my youth all over again. Riding was a passion as a teen and is now again.
I may be slower than I was but hey I’ve only been in the saddle since May 2024 again and loving it.

Awesome!!
@@onemorething100 it’s a great trail did 3 times this summer
Hola. Porque no lo traduce al español. Necesito entender.
That looks so fun. I just bought my first mtb yesterday
Good Stuff! Looks like a good grunt to get up there.
Lived in Smithers for a while and always wondered about this route. If I ever go back up there, I’m building up a fat bike first! Some nice bike handling in this video, I feel like I’d be stuck pushing on some of these stretches.
@@Spanderson99 there are definitely some hills to push up
Hey Steve (small world)! These videos are well put together, and really help inform me about the current conditions of the trail. Thanks for sharing. Question: It looks pretty chunky in places. I am planning on riding this on a mountain bike with 2.4" tires, do you expect that I'll manage with this set-up?
Thanks Glad you enjoyed.
@@Enoughness sorry just figured out you asked a question 😂😂 yes that set up will do well.

Beautiful scenery and nice riding
this is awesome
Thanks
unfortunately this doesnt work anymore as the select all photos button is gone and it would take too long to select so many photos. Can't even drag and hold to select the photos. Bring it back to how it used to be Avenza!!
Padawan seems like a perfect blue flow trail.
It’s a lot of fun
Did you go mountain biking all by yourself? It looks pretty remote
Yes it was a good ride I spend a lot of time in the bush
Well that looks fun. Not enough crashes though :)
Hi Steve. I stayed at Chunamon Camp in 1973, laying out blocks and the main roads north from there. Didn't like my hand compass location?? 😂😂😂
oh so now we know why its that way LOL
I needed to watch this with anti nausea medicine.
OMG, as a late 20 something, in about 1984 or so, a girlfriend and I took a ferry from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert and made our way down through the Cariboo fishing and having a wonderful September vacation. At Clinton, we decided to take this other route so we could end up in Lillooet to take the scenic route from Lillooet to Lytton. Well, we got on this road in the evening, never realizing how scary it would be and I must say that it wasn't all gravel at that time. Those parts where the road is super narrow with a frightening cliff on one side and a mountain slope on the other were soft soil with needles and things on the surface. We actually had to stop for an oncoming vehicle at one point. We cruised down the long slow hill to Pavilion only to find NOTHING there but a streetlight and a newspaper shack at about 10 PM or something and had to carry on to Lillooet to stop for the night. What a drive and what a great video with the speed, the road map, etc. thank you, Steve Rooke, wonderful... Backroads of British Columbia (Jack and Liz Bryan) if you can find any old copies. @@smrooke .
This is an unhelpful video. How about using words instead of a pathetic, irritating and useless jingle?
How long did it take you to drive this way? Also, which month is this? Looks like fall season
I really don’t remember a couple hours maybe 3 well worth it though
Good ol' Chico what a great man
Nice vid. Brings back memories. I like the music you set to it as well
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi
I drove a tractor trailer with a 48' flatbed on this road back in June of 2004 by accident. I was heading south (home) empty and saw a "gray road" on the truckers atlas and it looked like a shortcut down to route 99. It was not a shortcut and I learned that gray roads on the map meant unpaved road. I made it down to Pavillion but not without a couple blown outside trailer tires from rubbing the rock wall trying to get around the switchback turns. Ahhhhh memories....
First of all thank you for your tutorials. They are very helpful. I have made a few tracks on a map and would like to hide or put that track in a folder to review later and then start a new track so I don't see the old track. I just don't see a way to hide my old tracks. Your help would be greatly appreciated
The best way for this to happen is for you to name your track and then unlink it from the map using the edit feature. The track will still be accessible you will just need to link it back to that or any other map. Hope this makes sense
This was way more simple than I thought it was going to be. I couldn’t find any other RUclips tutorial that explains it so easily. It’s took two seconds and I was spending tons of time on my Settings trying to figure out what I had done and why did it happen. It was only on one contact but I threw my phone in the washing machine by accident the other day and a bunch of my settings were screwed up. Anyway this was great and easy!
Thank you 😊
Your welcome glad it helped
Can you crop a track, like if you forget to stop recording?
unfortunately you can't in Avenza. However you can export the KML and import it into a desk top version of Google Earth and then delete the section you don't want.
Great informative video. Now I'll try to save my rides. Thank you 😎
Thanks glad it helped
I could not import a kmz from Driopbox into Avenza on my iphone following the video instructions
Try Saving the KMZ as a KML in Google Earth then try importing it again
What the creator of this video failed to mention is that KML and KMZ files don't actually create the map in Avenze, because they don't carry maps with them. Instead they layer on top of PDF maps you already have.
@@smrooke that didn't work
Cool video
Thanks
Great stuff
Thanks
So. I did that new feature with pinning contacts at the to p. I had to upin the person from the top to be able to un mute. I couldn’t figure it out with the person pin but obviously I did it why that person‘s name was pen but anyway for anybody on here that may have the same issues I thought I would comment as I this was the best video I could find to help with the 11
So does it also list the GPS error (ie: 1 meter HRMS) or is that not recorded? Any meta data that also gets recorded? Or is it simply the coordinates?
Once you obtained the minimum number of fixes you are able to see the standard error example 0,2m other data within n the placemark includes number of counts and the duration that you plotted points for
Are the tracks saved online? Got a new phone and don’t have backup. Thanks
Thanks for telling us , it’s much appreciated !
Thank you so much. I was not getting my child’s text as I should be lol
Vanessa Chartrand glad it helped
So you have to physically walk the track to make a track? Can we pre-plan from home?
Sang Bui hello you create track as you travel (walk, run, bikes drive etc) by the method I showed in the video. You can. Create a preplanned route from home by a couple ways. Drawing a route in the app, creating a route in Google Earth and importing it (see one of my other videos for that) or importing a route that is created by others etc
I must be Pretty stupid actually. "Click on your map?"...well where do i get the map from? How do I load it into the app? I can't get any functionality out of it, but I now am a master at routing in google maps, and can save to google map app, but avenza just sits there consuming data, asking me if I will please let the app mine my data, even when not using it, but not a one of my routes in sight. Can't load the URLs from my maps, or any other way I can think of. I have google app installed to save my route, so why use avenza? After several attempts to import routes into avenza, I just give up. Absolutely NOT intuitive, so all you tech geniuses have fun! Frustrating! Now I'm going to go pout!
Robb LaNorman I would reach out to Avenza support if you are having issues they are generally quick to respond
Avenza looks good and is powerful for using geo tiffs but feels rather non-intuitive on my iphone. Maybe if I was 30 years younger it would be a snap.
Roman Dial you can also use geo referenced PDFs. Some of the work flow can be a challenge at times. What is it that you feel is a issue? Maybe I can help
How do I create a new track on same map and same trail
Dustin Mobley you can add multiple tracks on the same map following the same steps. Stop the current track record and start a new one. Let me know if that makes sense. Cheers
PineBeetle when I start a new track will that remove the currently saved track that is showing up in orange? I’m doing the same exact trail, just a different day and I don’t want to get confused with a track already on the map. Hope that makes sense?
Dustin Mobley no it shouldn’t however I would recommend naming the track specific so you can reference it later also consider giving it a different colour and line thinkness
Too fast !! Doesn't seem to work as you show it.
My phone (S9) only seems to be recording the start of the track. Do I have to do something in my phone settings to ensure the track is still being recorded once my phone goes to sleep?
Two Wheels sorry I am only familiar with iOS devices. It may have something to do with the sleep mode on your device. The folks at Avenza are really good. I would reach out to them for this sorry
@@smrooke thanks man. I did as you said and they answered my question ASAP. Cheers.
Cool I used do fire patrol with my dad we'd travel this road daily ty for making this video

Wish this was paved
the lack of paving is what keeps roads like these extra special! edit: i looked at your channel and now see why you would want it paved LOL
