    You really tried to work around just saying "plain ugly" in the first case. But it exactly what it is. Going against design principles for no reason will not get anyone the good kind of attention. There is a great spectrum of subjective preferences (colors, shapes, fonts, old/modern/corporate styles, etc), but most of the design work requires a lot of discipline and complying with rules, and the first portfolio fails exactly at that, the objective part. And when you fail at the basis, very few people will make the leap to actually spend more time with your design. You just scare off most.

      @gytismarkux 6 дней назад

      It is very tricky to create a portfolio that is somehow unique to you while also checking all the boxes. You want to appear professional, trustworthy etc while also keeping some of your perspective and personality. Made a lot of mistakes myself. The only way to get it right is to test it. Ask your potential clients or someone from the target audience share their view of what they are looking for. That can be very eye opening.

    • @gytismarkux
      @gytismarkux 6 дней назад

      Also, I try to avoid words like "ugly" or "beutiful". It would only represent my personal taste, and the goal of a portfolio is to appeal to a wider target audience. As you said, it is much more useful to focus on the core of your work, making it follow the best practices.

      Notion is not the best tool for creating great portfolio. It may be better than behance but not as good as having a dedicated website. If you have no front-end experience, I would suggest a simple web builder platform like squarespace or wix. Let me know if I can help in any other way?

    Hey just subbed been enjoying the videos! Quick question about resumes that I don’t see much content regarding. Do you believe soft skills carry much weight when applying for jobs? For example I’m in the midst of a career change but I have developed a bunch of skills that carry over. For example collaboration, seeing projects from conception to completion, speaking on panels and pitching ideas for budgeting etc. am I overvaluing these skills? Or would they help me stand out as a junior applying? Thanks in advance!

    • @gytismarkux
      @gytismarkux 3 месяца назад

      Hey, thanks for subscribing! I appreciate it very much. I have thought about this many times and plan to do a video on transferable skills and how to market them. Let me know if that would be interesting and what would be useful for you. Back to your question. Most soft skills can be transferred to UX or Product design. You just need to think about how you will pivot them. That said, in my experience, soft skills are hard to market in your portfolio. But you can definitely talk about them during your interview and use them on the actual job. I think that your experience in a specific industry is the most valuable. If you, for example, worked as a car salesman, you should have inside knowledge about the automotive industry and sales. This is where I would focus my efforts. Try to mention this on your About page, in case studies, or even in the main header. Building apps for the automotive or sales industry could be very attractive with your inside knowledge of that field. I hope that this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy to help.

    I think its very telling with the second portfolio that this has probably been designed for Behance. Its just one big massive image, so not exactly flying the flag for good UX and accessibility in their design approach. The "Thanks for viewing" is another common theme in Behance case studies. His case study is also peppered with bad grammar. So yeah, its not exactly grabbing me. But its a great example (in my opinion) of what to avoid). - Pas tave naujokas, bet turinys super! Dėkius 👍

    • @gytismarkux
      @gytismarkux 4 месяца назад

      That could very much be the case about reusing assets from Behance. Sometimes we get lazy, especially after redesigning our portfolio one too many times. That results in grammar mistakes and portfolio assets from other places like Behance. I am guilty of using a fair amount of these "shortcuts" myself. It is very unprofessional, but it happens all the time. Ačiū, kad žiūri ir palaikai! :)

    How to I break out from a Ui designer to product designer

    • @gytismarkux
      @gytismarkux 4 месяца назад

      Great question. First, you need to identify what skills you need to acquire in addition to your UI skills. You can learn about specific skills required in a product design job posting. From there you need to figure out how to get those skills (via an online course for example). Then you need to start putting the skills to use through client or free work to build your product design portfolio. Then you need to apply until you land the job you want.

    I am UX Designer having the experience of 3 years in design industry and I never expected a 10+ years old designer to develop his portfolio like this, I mean no projects there, just the JPGs... Seriously?????? I am talking about the portfolio of "Kris".

    • @gytismarkux
      @gytismarkux 5 месяцев назад

      I notice a tendency for more experienced professionals to skip more conventional ways of doing things but probably for different reasons. I suspect that Kris has a perfectly good reason to have a portfolio without many details of his work. It may be that the clients he works with appreciate this portfolio more than they would a more conventional one. All of this is speculation but at least it shows that there is no one size fits all portfolio approach.

    • @gytismarkux
      @gytismarkux 5 месяцев назад

      I agree that she could work to make the copy a bit more concise, but on the other hand it is hard to stand out with your personality and use very few words. When you cut back to using as little copy as posible it is easier to use the template phrases and join vast majoriy of portfolios that copy from each other. I think I prefer a bit more text and opportunity to know the person even before interview. I feel like the interview would go smoother and it would be more fruitful.
