I knew someone who was a very active member in her place of worship, and she seemed like a very good person -- someone who would go to heaven. She had a lovely, elaborate funeral with so many guests attending. But then, someone saw her falling through the floor into pitch darkness right before she died. It looked grusome. We don't know if Karla ended up in heaven. On the surface, she looked changed. 3 things I wouldn't do if I was Karla: 1) get married 2) singing and dancing as if I'm a saint 3) speak out against other people of different religions (you don't know what the other religions are about; so don't spread fake rumors about them) In order to be forgiven by the Lord for the worst crimes, you have to live the life of the person who is actually seeking forgiveness. That lifestyle cannot look like someone who has not done something seriously wrong.

Rape is a crime of power and violence, not sexual experience. And this definitely was a hate crime. This serious community shaming of Teena, then rape and multiple murder, didn't happen for any other reason than Teena Brandon not conforming to birth gender. The rape was meant to 'put her back in her place'. And the murder happened because he wouldn't 'do as she was told to' by going to the police and reporting the rape (which only resulted in more shaming, and emboldening of the rapists to murder). The subsequent murders were to rid any witnesses -and also as punishment to Lisa for enabling those not coming under control, to feel safe. Lisa's child was not ''unharmed''. She was in her mothers arms when her mom was shot in the head. Then she was left alone hours. I can't imagine how that would harm a child emotionally and psychologically. Then you go further to try and blame her father for his death, but had to stop just short, 'cause you really only have rumor. What is known is that Teena's father was killed in an auto accident, and he was mixed race Sioux. 2024 and we still can't do better than this as a society smh We still can't get past victim blaming.

The story of Mary Vincent is one of the most horrifying story I'd ever heard. I read a book about it probably 25 years ago & was completely stupefied that she survived! What I believe kept her alive was putting her stumps in mud as it gave her the best opportunity to staunch the bleeding. I have known of some dogs who get bit by a rattlesnake and roll in mud, if the can find it, and as the mud dries it draws the poison out. I agree she has to be one of the strongest, amazing woman I've heard of. I hitchhiker all the time in early 1970s, in Denver area. Had a few scary rides, but never was injured - which, in retrospect, is pretty miraculous. Denver metro area, including 30-40 miles surrounding the suburbian areas, could be pretty gritty. 10 million places to dump bodies.
