Still works in 2025, but the compatibilityJSON property is deprecated. Do not initialize as i18next in service, do import i18n from "i18next", then i18n.use(initReactI18next).init({... because of i18next collision, use it as i18n, also use i18n imported from services as i18n.changeLanguage(selectedLanguage) in App.tsx when you request from state the last used language to set it in useEffect on mount. In my case is redux toolkit and redux persist using AsyncStorage. I have a Settings component and settings.slice.ts in redux where I hold app state as theme, lang, etc.
