I've said it elsewhere in this medium, but I'll repeat it here: the USA hardly knew Kathy Kirby, but I did. In late summer 1965 she came as close to success in America as she ever got with her single "The Way of Love," which broke my heart so much that I bought the single 3 times...and still have them. It's also heartbreaking to see the hard times that eventually befell her...and one might say felled her. As I said, she was pretty much unknown in America, which largely accounts for my not knowing her difficulties and end, but here in this medium I've discovered other recordings she made subsequently to "The Way of Love," including "My Way," which clearly shows that Kathy had an awful lot on the ball...and I'll bet would've made Ol' Blue Eyes himself either proud...or jealous. I greatly mourn the untimely passing of Kathy Kirby. JAT

The USA hardly knew Kathy...but I was listening in the summer of 1965 when "The Way of Love" was indeed issued in the USA...and my heart simply broke. I still have three singles of it. A couple of others came out but didn't hit. A pity, 'cause she really had it and by all rights she should've succeeded in the US market. JAT

I never realised that she had such a fantastic voice.

Red Baron was one of the different labels established by Teresa's second husband, The greatest Bob Thiele. This was the reason why she could concentrate in a single record 12 of the best trumpeters of the Jazz scenery of all times in a single time. Anyway she has been a great and very vesatile singer in her very long career. In some way underrated because she was not considered a pure jazz singer, although along the '70 and '80 she had the opportunity to show fully off her real capacity to sing at best when surrounded by great art musicians. Great quality on this tune.
