I started this channel a few years back to share tango dancing and any other hobbie that I find interesting.
These past few years have catapulted my husband and I into growing our own vegetables and fruits ,learning the hard way but grateful for the lessons learned.
Fishing has always been a favorite activity for my husband, I was just along for the ride, slowly a switch was flipped this year and one day on a pier, I asked him to show me how to cast.
We have been married many years and I am thankful to have enjoyed and marveled in hobbies shared.

2nd time fishing at Newport Pier. We enjoyed it the first time and 2nd time was even better even though we did not take anything home. I was hoping to catch some mackerel and legal size halibut but no luck. All in all we had a good time, special thanks to the good Samaritans that helped with the Angel shark . Your help was greatly appreciated.

First time fishing in Newport CA.2 piers nearby ,why not . Caught a Halibut off Newport Pier ,17 inch, catch and release. Malibu pier was selected as a new fishing spot to try . We thought Friday would be best because less crowded , but folks come by the droves to enjoy the restaurants ,shops and take pictures on the pier. We decided ,well I insisted we try a new fishing pier. Cabrillo beach pier . Bait minnows were the only fish scored , it was fun trying ,at least some anglers , a few lucky ones caught some fish and went home happy . Glad we checked it out, maybe we will check back soon. What started as a halibut pier fishing trip turned into a day full of surprises. A small first catch octopus started the day followed by some small catch and release halibut. Wouldn't you know it ,there was even a prize halibut that tangled some poles nearby and sawed off the line on pier cement column. Great day on the pier . Lots of bites but none of the Halibut were legal size of 22 inches so back in the water they went. Male Halibut take 2 to 3 years to mature ,female 4 to 5 years 😲

On the hunt for a 22 inch halibut fish . Awesome day on the pier . Parking nearby , lots of fishing spots for morning crowd or if you prefer evening crowd. Free parking after 6pm , otherwise 19.90 dollars for the early risers... Cool fishermen on the pier will not hesitant to lend a helping hand or share helpful advice and fishing stories. Market within walking distance and quick fast food near...

First time using bait net on the pier , unfortunately did not catch any bait to use at the inlet. Inlet area is tricky , you must cross over the jetty to get to the shore ,so travel light and wear good shoes. The tide chased us out of first fishing location so had to move further up. Father daughter shorefishing ,a first. It was cloudy and chilly but I would not have missed it. Lots of salad biting at all 3 beaches. Milk boba tea, cappuccino, Captain kidd's lunch and Phillippe's sandwiches for dinner make it all better.

Cool catches but dude handle the halibut better then that especially if it’s short like that you can get In trouble if you keep out of water that long using that gripper isn’t how you handle fish especially holding it up like that jaws break can’t feed well after that

Nice information about legal size for halibut! Need more fisherman on Belmont pier to comply with fish size limits. Catch and Release!
Thank you for posting rules about Halibut fish length and reason for size limits - to allow for reproduction. Too many Asian fisherman break the law and keep undersize fish at Belmont Pier.

A nice day for fishing! Going out for some good eats after a day of fishing is a great way of ending your fun day.
Don't eat those they are on the toxic list, the meat contains high levels of poisonous toxins DDT and PCB

Be careful...those halibut can extend their mouths and bite! Shovel nosed shark tail is delicious...cut tail off just where it goes up and meets the back...you get two long fillets out of a tail... Try a sabaki rig for sardines and throw a live sardine Under the pier between pilings....big halibut are under the pier Eric Underwood class of 81 Downey High School California

Hi Fishman, Thanks for your comment. The leopard shark was tasty and moist. It was an unexpected treat. Glad we were able to share with folks on the pier. It was a learning experience on how to harvest . If we ever catch another leopard shark it will be released.
What bait?
A lure accidently hooked the tail of this Angel shark. Angler was hoping to catch a halibut with lure.
Looked like it was a gorgeous day for fishing. You definitely got some bites!

Shark hopefully is full of poisons especially this rare specie has killed 1000 of humans take one or two years to die is no antidote ...good luck

Thanks for the comment , I will remember to add more fishing action . The only fish biting were Mackerel using sabiki hook no bait.
