Lake Berryessa Fall/Winter Fishing Tips
Yesterday, we experienced the kind of fishing trip that reminds you why Lake Berryessa is a treasure, especially in the quieter months. For the first time since spring, we had the lake almost entirely to ourselves. Sure, it was a midweek outing, but even weekdays had been busy over the past six months with guide boats and privateers jostling for space. Just three weeks ago, Shane and I fished on a Friday, weaving between boats and constantly adjusting our trolling path. Yesterday, though, was something else-calm, quiet, and distinctly peaceful.
The morning troll started slow at 7:30 a.m., but things heated up around 10. We used T-Bone tackle and Speedy Shiner spoons, trolling between 1.8 a...

Unboxing the 1st Prototype - Powell Rods & Catch Happy Collaboration for Striper Trolling Rod
Просмотров 96Месяц назад
Last time Keith Bryan from Powell Rods visited Sweeney’s Sports, we discussed the lack of purpose-built, high-quality rods specifically designed for striped bass trolling. I’ve been using Okuma Celilio 8.6 heavy action and Phenix XG4 Crank Bait rods for this task, but I wanted a rod built specifically for striper trolling in rivers and the bay. Well, Keith and I had a few great conversations, a...

I had no faith in the frog pattern speedy, after watching the video I went and bought two of them . We got our boat record trout football sized 23 inches 😀
I wish it didn't take me 4 hours to figure out their fall preference :)
Thanks guys! -North Idaho
😂😂😂😂🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Bruh he gave me cash so i can fish at cuttings when sweenyes was on imola!!! I came back to pay you back the way.....thank you it's was my first time using live bait and it was a great experience
The best reason to go to Sweeney’s is the knowledge they share. I was headed to Lake Berryessa. Shane set me up with the right lures, the set-up, the depth, the location, blah blah blah. I fished 8am to 11am two days in a row. Best fishing I had there there in 14 years! Biggest 22”!
Is it made Herr the U.S
Finally had a chance to visit the new Sweeney’s in Napa today. The place is amazing. Shane set me up with some lures for Berryessa. Looking forward to fishing this weekend. And I love the videos!
hey atleast you found a few! we trolled the upper 30 ft of water with optomizers and no luck! last weekend the fall transition is in full effect! fish on!
Bullshit 😂
On the advice of a local guide, I just purchased two of these from Sweeney's Sports and will get to try them for the first time early next week. Looking forward to another great day on the water.
Where in cherry lake you can drove on? By the boat launch?
Shane in the background during the beginning 😂
I bought some flys from your new location a few weeks ago and they have brought me good luck . I switch back and forth from conventional to fly fishing from my kayak and your flys have out produce the rattle traps lately .
Wow! Another amazing Sweeney video!
It was nice to meet out at Tomales today.
Same, Tom! Thanks for the bait. We ended up catching a good time :)
Great video!
California department of fish and wildlife really let us all down. What a disappointment and a joke. They had so much time to fix the issue before it got really bad like this. A temporary season combined with stricter slot limits and amount of fish allowed to be harvested would've prevented it from getting to this if only it was implemented years and years ago
Come to Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago and the Wisconsin River. Not the same kind of sturgeon but they still get in the high one hundred pounds
Catch and release
Hello. Do you notice any noise with this radar? Whining or high pitched noises of any kind? Whirring or electronic noises? Thanks
When it's on, you can hear the rotation of the radar inside the housing. That is normal operations.
I didn’t know that you guys moved. But I’ll be stopping by very soon at the new location.
Best release in the world for bottom tracking downriggers tracking bottom for lake trout!!! Used them for years.
I'm interested in shore fishing which you said you would address. I just browsed through this video looking for shore fishing. Did I miss it? What time/minutes does it start?
The video ended up being too long. Will do a special shore fishing addition next week.
Thanks for the feedback.
@@catchhappy Thanks for reading it!!
Nice
That fishing spot looks awfully like Cuttings Wharf
Sure does. Wink.
That release sucks. Ill take the pinch pads any day.
Holy shit that’s a lot of rods, so you guys have a tackle store in Napa?
Yep. Sweeney's Sports, 835 Lincoln Ave in Napa
Why doesn't this work with the wire on the Cannon downriggers? Is there a way to bore it out a bit to work better on the Cannon's? Specifically, the stacker releases won't slide on the cannon downriggers.
so what fridge is the best to use? I think you missed that part?
I couldnt see any of your rigging your just moving around a bunch. Ill look elsewhere
Great video! Any tips on avoiding getting caught? Either on logs, in between rocks or holes, in the weeds, etc.
Thanks. When ready to retrieve, tighten up the line then jerk the rod up to get the weight off the bottom. Then reel as fast as you can. This way you won't be dragging your weight through the bottom. Still, snags are part of fishing :) Pack extras.
I've got the 21' Seahawk Fastback with a 250 Honda on it. It really hauls. Gotten into a couple fun drag races with other fishermen.
Man says I can't move faster then a loaded rod, doesn't know me 😎. Im sold just bought two
I love these ,I use them for kokanee and salmon fishing. I have bought these for my buddies who fish in alaska and numerous friends who fish salmon ,best release on the market.
No specs other than reel size, just advertising your stuff for sale ... got it.
I stopped using that release and all mechanical releases that can also damage line. I use the Rubberband releases. Works evertime. No false release to guess about. I'm 76 and tested a lot of releases.
Yeee
Been using them for 7-8 yrs best on the market
How do you do a tutorial on fishing and not even catch a fish😂
Fishing ain't catching :)
i would like to know i can use with sea water
Slow your trolling speed putting less pressure on the fish and your line, when you have a fish on. Makes the fight much more enjoyable rather than dragging a fish in and using the reel like a winch. Reduces the fun when fighting the fish with speed while hooked up. You can still intercept fish at slower speed. Once in the net…resume your speed. You’re right…properly adjusted drags are imperative. Forget the clicker. Good stuff to share.
At night on mud shrimp
Small ,i get bigger in napa river
Where do you fish?
I started using it for Lake Michigan salmon this year and LOVE IT!
Awesome products. I just bought 3 regular and 3 stackers. I fish mostly for stocker sized trout in Pennsylvania. Pinch pads had me dragging smaller fish around without ever releasing.
Shafer bridge
I appreciate the info you covered. I was sorta hoping to see you catch a striper tho.
:) Caught plenty in my other videos. Here I focused on instruction.
@@catchhappywhat spot is that if you don’t mind ?
@@luisalmaraz8647 Napa Sea Ranch. It's $5 per person, I believe. Lots of bank space to fish.
@@catchhappythank you
how fun. Thanks
