Hello. Thanks for this mod. I did this today. Now I am only looking for the spring to come to Czechia to be able to test it. 😂
Greetings from Canada! It's been down to -15c here the last couple weeks. And more cold weather for 2 more months, plus so much salt on the road. I probably won't be out again until April! Safe driving! God bless!
Turqoise Triceratops spitting facts here.
I'll have to look into this. I just bought one of these and feel the same way.
You can do a simpler mod by bending the back drivers seat posts backwards slightl ( about 3-4mm), free leave the seat in the middle position in the front bracket, and force the back into the lowest position. The modification I did with new holes likely requires removal of the front post to allow for tipping the tank up for air filter and other maintenance. A nuisance, sure, but not a deal breaker for me.
@nedmilburn , will go out to do that now. Odd, I can't flat foot this one. I'm the same height/inseam as you are. It has a Sargent seat on it so that might be the issue. I need it lowered another 1/2...lol
@@jeffreygwinn5081 I haven't experienced aftermarket seats yet. The La Sellerie seat interests me, but it's a gamble to order and I'm not a financially rich man.
@@nedmilburn My shock preload isn't working!!! I guess that's why they threw in a shock with the line and adjuster.
@jeffreygwinn5081 For some reason, the oil in the rear shock preload drains. We (st13 riders) don't know if it's a system flaw or if it is the fluid choice honda used. It is easy to clean and replace the fluid... Just be careful not to loose the mini ball bearing for the detent. You'll find info on st owners dot com
sir, im on a practice to refret my guitar, but, with hammering technique, i cant make the fret sit properly , even the radius of the fret is matching with fretboard, the fret sit enough but there is some gap just a little, not to high but it always bother me, do u use some glue on the slot too ?,
I have two electrics with Zero frets (BMG Special and Sirit of Steinberger). Both have developed grooves under the string. When using the trem, its almost like treating the string as a saw going back and forth over the fret. The Steinberger is not too bad. I don't use the trem much and all the string movement from tuning comes at the bridge end. The BMG was pretty bad. I could hear noticeable pinging when bending strings as the strings popped in and out of these grooves. I replaced the zero fret on the BMG with a stainless steel fret, which helped a lot, but I can still see wear creeping back. So zero frets are not a design I favor. As far as the whole dampening argument goes, I find that inconsequential (of course I tend not to play open strigs too much anyway).
Good point! There are reasons zero frets are rarely used. You've unfortunately experienced some of them.

Wouldn't it be better to buy a replacement neck? Especially since the warp sounds permanent
There's another similar and fair question asked by another commenter. When I get a chance on a keyboard I'll type a full response.
I commented on a more recent vid on the whole "length of the leveling beam" thing, but I think I may get your point now. I think you and I define "ideal" differently. To me, ideal is when the tops of all frets are in the same plane. I'm getting the impression that your definition of "ideal" is a uniform bow. It might be worth another vid to clarify what (and why) you feel "ideal" is.
Good vid. I'm not clear on the whole "shorter leveling beam" vs "long levelling beam" thing. If the neck is warped and you can't get it straight with the truss rod, you may very well end up taking more metal off the tops of some frets that others when leveling, but when you are done, don't you still want the tops of all frets to be on the same plane, even if some have to be taller than others to accommodate neck warp? If you use a short beam and you end up with sections of the neck where the tops of the frets define a different plane than in other sections of the neck, that just sounds like a recipe for buzz, fret out, and other problems.
I’m only just now getting interested in luthiery, but if the neck is warped, isn’t it pretty likely that it’ll warp further?
Good question... Please be patient, I'll explain further when I get a chance on a real keyboard. Stay tuned to your comment replies.
I’m looking for this fingerboard you’re talking about and it looks like a maple neck
Yes, you're correct. Warmoth makes replacement necks for Fender guitars. You can search on their website.
Theres your problem, just trip the flip jib.
I think you may be looking for the guitar sky hook in aisle 3... 😁✌🏻
Looks like a high way 1
It could be but I don't think so because the bridge doesn't have the 3 side walls on the bridge plate. Take a look at 12:20. But I'm not super knowledgeable on all the variations of Fender and Gibson guitars. My specialty is technical knowledge of the instruments. I'll lose to many amateurs regarding specific model knowledge for brand name guitars... lol Cheers!
Im an amateur still trying to hone my skills but After you check the neck relief Shouldn't you make sure your bridge is set a the proper radius before checking the string gaps along thr neck?
Fair question... Remember, when you're checking the nut, you are fretting the string so it doesn't matter if the action is high or low. The nut slot measurement method removes the saddle action from the equation. I hope this addresses your question. Let me know if it doesn't. Cheers!
Some tape.. smack !😅
So I have the same one. It’s not great, but here is some solves for you. 1) flame burning out: lack of air getting inside. I had snow build up one year on top of chimney, blocked the pipe, and it fizzled out exactly like yours until it melted. I opened the front of it completely to test it out for 30s and it worked, so I knew it was air issue. 2) the fan noise. Me too. Turned out it was vibrations of the underneath plate of the fireplace when the fan was on max. I took the face plate off and put dampeners underneath, it worked. 3) fan strength: fan sucks, but I took the grate off the front and more air was able to get through. Not sure if you can do that, but yea very necessary for me. Good luck.
Thanks dude!
I’m playing a Larrivee and I’m finding the D’Addario strings (quite new) sound thick and muted. When I bought it they told me it had electric strings … which sounded crisp and clean to me. Any thoughts on a better set of string to buy? (I know nothing!!)
As a former repairman watching a handful of your videos, you are an absolute menace to the instrument. Being scared of a dovetail is a horrible excuse for just leveling the frets instead of resetting the neck. Epoxies easily soften with a heat gun, and epoxied necks can be pried with just a tad more effort than wood glues or hide glues. This is common practice....You have just adapted the instrument to a bad neck angle, rather than recalibrating it. by the time you intonate (dress) each fret back to a decent intonation, you will have wasted more time adapting it than it would take to actually fix the instrument.
Interesting! Good tip!
Thanks for the comment and for tuning in!!
I will take a "cheap" guitar perfectly set up over an expensive guitar poorly setup any day of the week.
Thank you for saying not to use trussrod to adjust action. I cant believe so many so called guitar techs on youtube say to adjust trussrod for action.
Sounds like they put it onto the fretwire press slapped it all together too quickly set the glue an when it went to QC they said "meh it makes noise so" im sorry to see that mate, many companies lately have been just awful with their quality control departments. I have a friend who got a ventura recently an the beck was so warped he had to tell fender look just send me another one this ones shot right out the case. They did send him a proper one but still letting em go out like that to begin with is not okay
Biggest problem is Gibson glueing a fretted fretboard on to the neck. It is like a rollercoaster, fret levels are nothing if they are not sitting on a even fretboard..
Hi, i had the same issue with my Les Paul Standard 60, the machine routed too muche binding, fingerboarda and frets. It was new but had got frets so low that when you play you fell the fretboard and i wasn't able to play bendings as i touch the fingerboard, there where also a lot of marks from the machine
Another new 335 i had in the shop last year showed some pretty bad scarring on the binding. My rule about building instruments is, don't injure an instrument before it is sold...
@@nedmilburn Yes i think such a big factory as Gibson shouldn't sell this guitars without checking, i bought mine in Italy and there were unfortunately binding glue on fretboard, we are talking about almost 3k guitars and the guitar should be in the best condition possibile. It had to clean and refret a guitar after buying it luckly i get a partial refound because it was a damage stock, all Standards are in the same condition so it was a factory machine fault
@@Tekno281 Sounds par for the course.. If you want an alternate choice with better build quality and EXCELLENT sounding, you can consider Ibanez guitars. I used one of their AMH-90 guitars (like a Gibson 339) as my main guitar for a year. Great sound!!
@@nedmilburn Yeah i've had an az premium and i was very happy, very well builded especially frets. I sold because i'm trying to get a prestige series

Thanks for running in... Yeah... This stuff can be pretty dry... LoL😂
Thanks for sharing your experiences with not only Gibson but how to do it better. I'm not sure why they let work like that leave their shop
Thanks for your comment and for tuning in... The best I can imagine is that Gibson doesn't have production managers who have a sufficient level of understanding about guitar playing and guitar maintenance. I used to be a pretty darn good guitar player (jazz and classical). This fact, included with the fact that I do repair, maintenance and guitar building, helps inform me as to a plethora of issues that can occur. So I have the advantage of being able to learn from mistakes of other builders' and companies' guitars, rather than just my own. BTW... Do you know what the ES stands for in "ES-335"...?
@@nedmilburn I'm sure I used to know what ES stands for but my memory is the shortest thing I've got ... I'm really glad that RUclips is recommending channels like yours, gathering knowledge is what I'm in to. Thanks again

Please do instruct me as to the correct way since you project yourself as being a GOAT of fret work... And feel free to come visit my workshop to see my work. I'm the best in the East of Canada, and my fretwork is second to none. I learned from some of the best builders in Canada and USA. Me and my former boss were invited to Spain as fret work advisors for the Manuel Rodriguez guitar factory. So please inform me, a master artisan with international experience, how to do fretwork properly. Thanks!
@@nedmilburn I use a STRING TECH GPS tech deck for great fret work as compared to your FRED FLINSTONE SILLY PANTS METHOD you learned from an illegal spic !
Good for you!! GPS... That's awesome!! So you'll know where you are when you're driving around doing your fret work... 👍🏻
@@joeballs5669BTW I checked out the unit you mentioned. Could be handy for tour techs but certainly doesn't bring any advantage for fretwork. And the neck strap shown in their pictures is ridiculous since you can't work on a guitar with its neck obstructed. Anyhow, thanks for showing up and watching and commenting! It helps the algorithms. 👍🏻
When you say Yamaha necks are epoxed on, are you talkimg about a certain era because i know the earlier red labels and even some of the first generation L series guitar, were epoxyed on. I belie ve the current generations of L series and guitars from Hangzhou and Japan use a PVA based glue.
Thanks for this. Since I don't attempt to rip apart Yamaha necks I can't be sure what glue they use presently. The neck removal and reset operation is still quite invasive, however. Cheers!
@@nedmilburn oh of course without a doubt and I feel this is the most tedious of work, resetting a dovetail neck. From what I gathered from guitar builders, they like the dovetail because it is a secure joint but removing that dovetail is a nightmare which why I understand now why guitar shops charge an arm and a leg for it.
Atrocious treatment of the frets and fretboard. When you run such a coarse grit sanding pad over the board, you're missing the area next to the fret, leaving a different texture and a visual difference. also a used 180 grit pad is nowhere near fine enough for a finished fret job.
Thanks for your input. The finish pad is NOT a used 180. Flexible abrasives are different than sandpaper. And not all sandpaper is equivalent effective coarseness even if they read the same number grit. When blending the final fret crowning and moving to polishing, 180 Norton flexible abrasive is effective and not at all "atrocious". My finishing grit is at least 1000 equivalent but sometimes I'll go higher, although there's really not any effective difference finishing at 1000 vs 2000. Thanks for tuning in!!
Good info - thanx
Thanks for tuning in. Glad you found it useful. Do you do guitar work as well...?
That's interesting. Are these types of geometry issues common?
Sadly they are moderately common. Usually it happens with decades old guitars that have deformed (compressed) bodies to either side of the sound hole. There is a weak point in the standard acoustic guitar X bracing pattern that buckles and compresses over time. But these issues can be made worse with over thinning of the scalloped portion of braces on key areas. Improper humidity control can accelerate issues like this. Then sometimes in rare cases you'll get a brand new guitar where they missed with the neck angle.
At first I thought this was going to be a video about a condom I mean the thumbnail looks like a condom
Lmao... That's funny! Thanks for tuning in!!
The package is actually an empty pack of guitar strings. If it were a real condom package that big, it'd be for a horse...! ;-)

Well that ended quickly and unexpectedly :) would love to see the process and result as im considering a similar fret change on my strat.
Sorry about the abrupt ending. I began posting on FB Reels which allows me 90 seconds. I'm still trying to adapt my video planning for the RUclips video freedom in length. What else would you like to see in the fretwork...? My most recent videos show some actual work on the guitar frets, not just a description of the result or stages in the process.

Those maple leaf inlays are awesome
They are! It's a decent build quality on this instrument!
That fretboard looks odd? Very shiney.
It has just been oiled with "lemon oil". I use Dunlop 65. It is important to keep ebony and rosewood fingerboards clean and hydrated. Over time, you can prevent a fingerboard from cracking.
Its beautiful, thanks for sharing.
