Strangely enough, Rise of the Planet of the Apes is basically a reboot of the franchise starting with a new origin for this character. Roddy McDowall knocked it out the park in every one of these films, and later became a film historian/preservationist. He was also great narrating the documentary Behind the Planet of the Apes, which is a MUST SEE for any real fans of the saga. So in-depth, and largely at his insistence from what I understand, it helped sell the DVD boxed set of the series, and in the process showed the studio that there was renewed interest in the franchise, which led to Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I'm coming to this a year late, but thanks for the reaction/review!

I have seen the film you were watching and I make this comment for those who haven't seen the film yet, one tip to ensure loads of thumbs up on a first time watching video, is that the picture of the film you watch doesn't keep disappearing from the screen, what I could see of it, it was clear, good sound and quality, but when it comes and goes, it's very distracting.

Surprisingly good and that opening with the apes taking off their helmets was striking. You definitely don't want to ponder certain details, like how in the world were the apes able to retrieve and use that spaceship.

Turns out it's directed by the director of Ernest and Celestine and Big Bad Fox and Other Tales, you can definitely see the influence. It's going to be good probably given that news.

The scratchy parts of the film aren't done for artistic effect; you're watching a reconstructed version of the original release, and that's literally the only surviving footage we now have of those scenes that were edited out after the premiere nearly a hundred years ago, so it had to be used for the reconstruction even though the quality was terrible. If you enjoyed "Metropolis," you should definitely try "M" next, it's by the same director and the first film he made with sound.

Awesome reaction :) A lot of people don't like the next movie in the series (Battle for the Planet of the Apes) but I really like it.

No one on the creative side really wanted to make a sequel to the first film, but it did so well the studio twisted their arm-metaphorically. If you do not want to continue making these movies, maybe you write the film in a way that makes another sequel impossible. “Beneath…,” and the subsequent sequels are a lesson to all of us creatives to not do that, unless we really want a challenge. Nonetheless, I absolutely love these five films (even “Escape…”.)
