Garden Update: Learning the HARD way
CAREFUL WITH THE RAT POISON, its not just other animals eating the poison but if say your dog catches one of them rats after it ate poison it can still kill the dog.
you may want to look up the bucket method, there are a few of them. one is where you put a large bucket filled with water and a bar over it with another hollow bar on it so that when the rat/mouse tries to go over it they fall into the bucket and drown. you'll need to put food for them. there are quite a few DIY version videos for these type of traps, they seem to always work.
G@y
Came over from heard that. ❤❤❤
I like the pink bucket for the feeder. It does stand out. Most of the things I build are far from pretty. As long as they're functional, that's all I care about. You need a good net to catch the chickens. I've got to buy one. They wear me out when I need to catch some of them.
haha yeah a net would be good. I just think of it as part of my workout routine.
@@WildTsHomestead yeah, I heard the hard breathing. It does make for a good workout.
Awesome! thank you i did not know that i spend lots of money every month to spray and its like they fake dead for a week and then they come back like nothing even happens. Im going to try that. Thank you for the tips and tricks.
might need to install wheels on that cage
lol, yeah if we had them..
Thanks I'm going to try it
how long until the grass or weeds die after application?
Started noticing them turning brown within hours, next day for sure.
L I K E 👍👍👍👍👍 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 💯💯❣💯💯❣💯💯
Breeding them just to eat is bad. Shame on you.
@@whoslistening We do more than just eat them. We use every part of them from the hide to the feet. They are loved til the day they are processed and then we love eating them fried. 🤷🏽♀️
granma had seven boys
sometimes the safety part goes bad, cut the safety part off
if you're going to leave the extension cord across your driveway, I would suggest buying one of those cord protectors or digging a small cannel for it to protect it from driving over it all the time.
yeah we wernt thinking long term yet, good idea.
@@WildTsHomestead I figured you weren't and I saw the issue ahead of time so thought id say something so your cord dont end up breaking.
tossing the turkey backs??? no turkey broth?
that was so cute how all the chickens were following you and then the one rooster was lagging way behind and was like hey wait for me type running
omg so cute watching the goats follow you back and forth when unloading the wood in fast forward speed.
between gen pop and playground what if you just put some netting from the top of the fence and attach it to the overhead netting. would stop future crossings
i wonder if those cooling mats you can buy for dogs would help the chickens
I don't know if its the same for chickens but I was looking up if you could feed guts to pigs and it said you had to cook them first before giving them to pigs. which did not make sense to me because in the wild no one is cooking anything for any animals.
I’m so sorry, guys… That’s the absolutely worst part of farming, huh? With y’all in homestead spirit❤
Ha ha you guys must be our age🤣
@@mollypectol-kesler5596 😄 born in 80 and 82. 💪🏽
Diatomaceous Earth everything!! I buy the 50# bags and use it for gardens, animals, people, etc. I saw someone said their ducks and I agree, our geese are great about this. Another option is hatching praying mantis cases. We do this every year and they keep the hoppers and aphids down. Is there a way to message you?
Thank you both for doing this! I love these how to videos, as I’m about to pick up my rabbits on Saturday. How do you guys preserve your harvest? How many do you usually harvest at a time? Do you have recipes you know are tried and true?
Wow kinda love it! Didnt know the egg formed like that!, the more you know!
I can't belive I never even thought about how the eggs look before they are fully formed. Pretty cool
I have used boiling water on weeds in driveway cracks. Works great! Best if used on emerging weeds. Established weeds may need more than one treatment, but eventually the boiling water works on those, too.
Thanks man. I knew about gasoline but not about boiling water. Gonna try it out.
sorry for so many comments lol but I comment as I am watching. I hope you guys put something in the bottom of that new gate latch, I can see those goats opening the gate on their own.
do you have to dry out or do anything to the rabbit poop to use in the garden or just put it in fresh?
Rabbit poop is called COLD fertilizer, because you can take it and directly put it with plants and it won't burn them. Chicken poop is HOT fertilizer, it would burn the plants, so you have to compost it with carbon to decompose into a fertilizer safe for plants.
@@WildTsHomestead thank you for the information
off subject a little bit but if you guys want more content on your channel, I would love to see some videos on rabbit recipes. I don't think Ive seen any on youtube though there may be some.
Glad we could help you Travis. You helped us also.
Update, It did in fact kill the tree i tested the boiling water on. It just took a while for it to show, but now the tree is completely dead.
My rooster attacked me and I pinned him under a pallet and I didn't have any trouble with him for weeks
Only way I know to be sure of a drake is tail feathers, A mature drake will often display one or more curled feathers right at the top of his tail. Drakes usually develop this feather when they get their adult plumage, around 8-12 weeks of age. I do think these are the prolific egg laying khaki campbells.
to me these look like khaki campbell ducks. super great egg layers more then white leghorn chickens, but not great for meat. very active foragers too. looking great. FYI I found your channel on rooster behavior video and loved your approach to quell aggression. thanks for sharing.
thats good to know, we want them for eggs.
when you scruff a rabbit to carry it you are ripping the skin from the muscle, unlike cats and dogs who carry young that way rabbits do not and you can see the damage when processing them. 1 more tip is re-breed about 8 hours after first breeding. reason for re-breeding is doe's ovulate (release eggs) when the breeding act happens so 2nd breeding eggs are in position to be fertilized better. it is bad to wait days to re-breed as they can carry 2 litters at same time with different due dates causing some to be premature .
I have a feeling those are all females you have. with ducks generally males are very colorful.
the dark one looks like a female mallard duck
try taking a photo of them with google lens and it should tell you what kind of ducks they are. Also ducks ARE GREAT to let into your garden for pests control, unlike chickens who will eat your plants ducks generally dont.
Roosters are protectors of the flock and puberty is a very confusing time to them when they act on instinct more than reasoning. When we choose dominance in response to their feeling threatened, we must reassert it every week or two since we have declared ourself to be a threat. I used this method for my first couple years with chickens until I realized there is a much better way. Understanding they are learning how to be a protector while dealing with surging hormones, building a relationship built on trust and respect provides a long term solution and makes everyone safer. I currently have ten roosters and only 24 hens and I don't fear turning my back on any of them nor do I fear them attacking strangers visiting. They have learned through experience that humans are their allies and not a threat or a rival.
Can you guys show us how to sex the rabbits? I can tell with most animals other than birds and rabbits. so I don't know what to look for to see what sex they are.
Yes, we already have it. It was one of our first videos. ruclips.net/video/ekBlM_4g-CM/видео.html
@@WildTsHomestead oh ok thank you ill go watch it now
What happemd with the ducks??? I have mascovys and Pekins.
@@scribethetimeisnowglorious964 we are still waiting on the guy to round them up. Once it got hotter they stay out on the lake and he can't catch them. But Melissa is so excited she may just go buy some already. Lol Are Muscovy a good breed to have?
Looking good. Keep it up.
@@CanadianDreamer Thank you.
This makes sense : watch the behaviours of each animal, and you learn their issues and fears and likes. I have a friend who is a very successful sheep farmer : His words : Every day I don't see my sheep, one is nearer to sickness. So he watches, inspects, see as many of them as possible, every day, ensuring they are healthy, and pick up any issues, ready to nip such in the bud.

it's likely not the guts attracting the predators, having animals like chickens attract them no matter what. I personally don't like rabbit meat but was thinking since they are easy and fast breeding, I may raise some to feed the pigs when I am able to get my homestead.
Geese for weeds and grass ducks for bug control also helps fertilize garden
