Book Review: NOW WE ARE SIX by A. A. Milne
His name is pronounced bur-jess. I wrote a report on this book as a senior in high school.
@@capndave9152 thank you for telling me, I didn’t know
Dickens' published version of "A Christmas Carol" was itself an adaptation of the original, which, as my research indicates, was co-authored by an American couple named Mathew Franklin Whittier and Abby Poyen Whittier.
I love A Christmas Carol! Every December I watch every version of the adaptation I can find on RUclips. I have the printed work as one of three Dickens’ books in a volume of Treasury of World Masterpieces (the other two are Nicholas Nickleby and Hard Times). I recently purchased the Folio Society’s version of the book so I would have in December. I am waiting a little while before I read it. But I have looked it over and it is beautiful. Thanks for your review. I enjoyed it very much.
I found it in a box with a few other books in my apartment building I can’t wait to read it again. I instantly thought of the 5th or 6th grade when we read it. It’s a classic piece of American literature I can’t wait to read it again before I bring it to the library. Thanks for sharing God bless you.
I vidied the picture a ways back with my best droog and only recently did I read the book. I, your humble narrator, thought it was real horrorshow, as was your review.
@@JaneCarolineIsFine thank you my little droogie, your comment is real horrorshow and made me smile to read it
I love this book! I’ve never heard of a civilization in a swamp during slavery, but it’s a real thing! So cool!
Now that I know you’re a fellow deer hunter, I like your channel even more! You may want to consider reading, “A Hunter’s Heart” by David Peterson.

Hmm. Cn you read a series of a writer and still go on and read her autobiography. For example, Doris Lessings sci-fi series (from Shikasta) and then say the biography about her parents? Or, her own bio?

Read The Four Agreements next! It's a quick read, and I found it helpful for my anxiety! "Never take anything personally." Fahrenheit 451 is also a must read for English teachers. I love dystopian novels (but not all dystopian novels)!

The Mysterious stranger was depressing but awesome.
Oh wowi just picked up this extract book version! I can’t wait to read it! Thanks for the push to read lol
One critique i have of the book is the english is very outdated, i thought that it had typos at first but no the original book was wrote that way
@BeeBN Unsolicited advice to a budding book reviewer: "I thought that it had typos at first, but no, the original book was written that way.”
I think a reader needs to look at the organizations that banned these books probably a religious, cultural, language etc. I think many of these banned books were written fifty to hundred years ago but like you said Jordan it was the era that they were written and current modern day these books would not be published. I think readers are privy to the do' and don't of publishing a bias book today. I remember thirty years ago Madonna published a scandouslus picture book called "Madonna Sex" book that was portraying S&M from a famous erotic artist many libraries tried ban it but I was able to access from my local library in todays world it would be hip. I wanted to view it because it was scandouls that I wanted to see what all the "hubbub was about" ruclips.net/video/hLjAH_G5PZ0/видео.html

Even the period(full stop) punctuation sign switches its position sometimes. UK and American English differs. As a future English teacher you have to pay attention to both.

You say that you've seen a movie adaptation of this and it was an older movie. When someone your age says that, I have no idea which one to choose. You could mean the 90s movie, or the '33 movie with Katherine Hepburn, or somewhere in between (I know you don't mean the 100+ year old silent movie! Hehe! (It's a lost film-that was a joke)
@@SJHFoto I believe it was the 1949 adaptation
@@jordanelizabethborchert Ah yes-the first one in colour! I wasn't trying to be snarky earlier-I am a youth sports photographer. At a high school softball game, the college girl that works the mics said she would play oldies between innings and played "Getting Jiggy Wit' It" by Will Smith, and other 90s hits (not my definition of an oldie)
@@SJHFoto I started watching old movies with my grandma when I was really young, it was something we did often together, I’ve seen many films from the 30s-60s because of our movie nights together

@@jordanelizabethborchert Sure...completely agree with you.
I think you're more of a fiction person than a non fiction one. My literature love began back in high school years when we came across Shakespearean Dramas called - 'As You Like it' and 'Much Ado About Nothing', as a part of our curriculum. Initially, it was very hard to interpret the lines, and as you said in one of your videos that Shakespearean Dramas are hard for beginners, and so was for me. But after putting some efforts and after realising the unique writing style that Shakespeare had, I totally fell for His works. And this is how my love for reading literature grew. Seeing you having the same sort of love for reading as I do, encourages me to read more and more... A kind advice for you from my side as a friend would be that, that you should include some non fiction in your tbr list, if manageable. If you already have some then great.
@@AnshGupta1998 I do have nonfiction on my tbr, but you’re right-I do read more fiction. However, since being in grad school, most of my reading for school is nonfiction, so when it comes to choosing books to read outside of class I have been choosing fiction more these last couple years since I read so much nonfiction for school. When I’m out of grad school I plan to read more nonfiction books of my choice again. Do you have any recommendations?
@@jordanelizabethborchert There's a lot to take from non fiction and its near impossible to compare it with what we study in our classes. I too had that mindset before I came across NF world of books. Some recommendations for you... 1. Man's search for meaning. 2. The 5 AM club. 3. Atomic Habits. 4. The Diving Bell and The Butterfly. 5. All books by Yuval Noah Harari.
Hey! eventually came across your channel and started loving since. Nothing is better than to start a video with a nice quote. Loved all your reading list, many were new for me but I would say you should start with Dickens. Quick kind suggestion from my side would be to try making crisp and 'to the point' videos. Try pre scripting them. BTW, all the best for your teaching career ahead.
@@AnshGupta1998 thanks! Im glad to have you here 😊 I don’t script my videos but usually just have notes on things I want to talk about, I like to just turn on the camera and have it feel more like a conversation than a scripted video, sometimes I go on tangents but I feel like it’s more genuine that way, if I scripted things then I feel like it wouldn’t have as good of flow, I just like my videos to feel more like friends hanging out and talking
@@jordanelizabethborchert Truly said. Script leads to margined speeches and can also makes one fumble often. Your point have a point...I'm convinced.
@@AnshGupta1998 some content creators are really good going off a script and can make it feel natural but I don’t think I would be one of those people haha
Two of the coolest things I love is... 1. finding an interesting book by chance. 2. finding a book lover by chance.
This is a very disgusting book, and the fact that middle schoolers are reading it is telling. The one girl has sex outside of marriage! Really inappropriate material!
I disagree, this book actually showed the negative side of having sex before you are ready, it really messed Bee up, I think that’s an important narrative, and while I think kids should wait not have sex, not everyone waits until marriage, I have two kids with my partner that I’m not married to, many children also have parents that aren’t married so we should try not to judge cuz families come in all shapes and sizes and forms
@@jordanelizabethborchert I know people have to make their own choices and face the consequences of those choices. I follow the Bible's laws and principles on how our bodies should be used. Rather than express my opinion on matters, I defer to God's laws
@@SJHFoto But when they continued asking him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” -John 8:7
@@jordanelizabethborchert Correct. So that still doesn't excuse the bad things people do. It means we are all sinners and do not judge, not that God will excuse deliberate disobedience
I'm not really sure what the difference between fantasy and sci-fi would be. I do admit, this was very different than the previous books, but I actually liked it! I think the only thing about books 4 & 5 that I am not a fan of is how Ombra appears again and again! He was a good baddie in book 2, and the reappearance in book 3 was a novel idea (no pun intended), but for him to pop up all the time gives me villain fatigue (kind of how Lex Luthor was in 3 of the 4 Superman movies with Christopher Reeve)
Outstanding review Grasping the hierachy of the government ,geographical areas and departments was a lot for me but you simplified it. You’ve also highlighted there are so many levels to this book, no wonder it has such a high reputation. SPOILER ALERT** Speaking about Winston & Julia, when people spoke about this sci fi novel, did you expect it to have romance in it? It was high calibre! Them having to hide their love from society and big brother made it so special. They planned in advance when to see each other and dreamed of a future together, but in fact this never got lived out because they were found out and manipulated and tortured.Their love was even used against them during the torturing process which made it even more painful to read. Then to see each other in the outside world and not attempt at talking each other was all a result of both of them having been completely wiped mentally and physically, the pain and suffering they endured was so much they couldn’t comprehend giving their love another chance. BIG BROTHER had divided their souls..
@@gregupton90 thank you! I’m glad you liked my review. I also did not expect the romance. It surprised me and kept me guessing. I didn’t know if we could trust Julia or not. It made me fearful of their love and for their love. It was such a great read!

We translated this book in Tamil aSouth Indian language two years ago. We made a yathra to some of the places associated with Harriet Jacobs life. It is a classic.
Well maybe the offensiveness of the book when someone reads it, should understand that it’s a book it’s fiction. It isn’t always what the religion is portrayed but what some people think it is.. or some way to say no not all Catholics are this way or Muslim but what if this happened in this town in this book. Doesn’t mean it is real. That is why it’s fiction. I’d try to keep that in mind. If I read books I get frustrated when I hear people portray a conservative a way. When I know they obviously do not know many conservatives but I have to remember it’s just a book and it is from a persons idea of what a conservative really means and hope the readers are smart and do research that isn’t biased to find out what it means to be conservative, or Christian or Muslim or gay, or whatever word you want to use. Ya know what I mean?
Maybe u keep it because you like the cover?
