My parents did this exact cruise last fall and just boarded it again today to do St Louis to MSP.
Thanks for posting the video. I noticed you did not do the Civil War tour at Vicksburg. Was that your choice or was it not offered on your tour? It would be one of my must do tours.

This video is very well produced, informative and enjoyable. I particularly like the focus on the off-ship activities, with just enough descriptions and historical tidbits to add interest. These features are missing in most cruise videos. I'm curious about the guitar music that begins at 1:49, I believe. Can you provide the name of that piece? It's lovely, and so is the one that follows. (The Edith Piaf-style vocalists are excellent, too.) Thanks for a delightful virtual tour!
Many, many thanks for your most kind comments. They make all the work worth it! As far as the guitar music goes, I don't have an exact answer for you as I neglected to put the title on the end credits. But it likely came out of my collection of "buyout" music from Music2Hues, their Acoustic Guitar disc or it may have been one of the many BackTraxx clips I used. Not something you'd find in a record shop.
@@robertgundersen Thanks for your reply. I'll see if I can locate it somewhere. To my amateur ears, the first tune has a Celtic flavor, yet it seemed appropriate for Avignon. It added a nice touch to your narration. And no, it's not typical record shop fare! Looking forward to your next presentation.
Thanks for showing us the wonderful sights on the Viking Mississippi cruise. We have this cruise plan for December. Do you know what the weather will be like in December? Will there be an opportunity when we get to Memphis, to take a side trip to Graceland? Thanks!
When we took the cruise, one option was a visit to Graceland. But the offered shore excursions do change, as they do on all cruises. You'll have to check with Viking. The weather? Only God might know, and He most likely would be guessing.

As we explore taking a Viking Mississippi cruise, we wonder if you had some free-time or if most of the time was structured. Thanks again for your video. We can add questions to new threads, if you prefer.
"Some" free-time, yes, but not a lot. The tours we took pretty much covered what we wanted to see, so it was a non-issue for us. We did go out on our own a few times to explore independently. I'd say there was a good balance overall, but of course your mileage may vary. Personally I most enjoyed the evening entertainment. It was, to me, much better than on some other river cruises we've taken.

Lovely video! I wish our experience on the same Viking itinerary had been comparable - while strikes and other acts of God are not Viking's fault, I was greatly disappointed by my experience with Viking's customer service department.

What’s the best time of year to take this trip and how rough is the sea?
Given the way that the weather is going, I'd suggest either spring or fall. When we went the sea was completely calm.
Do you have any recommendations about the optional excursions for this cruise ill be doing it in next October
I'm not sure which ones we took that were optional, with the exception of the Pont du Gard Aqueduct. That was well worth the expense!

Very nicely done! I’m traveling next month on the same itinerary, opposite direction, on the Sky. Have also read all of Donna Leon books, what a good idea to try and find the sites 👍 I will only have one full day in Venice so I’m not sure I’ll have the time.

Sorry but please don’t use this as a demonstration of how to open and decant vintage port. There are enough examples on you tube with a particularly good example from Taylors Port.
Nice video and good narration. I enjoy seeing scenery, ship and passengers. Can you edit you video title at 0:24? You've misspelled the name of the Douro.
You win the Eagle-eyed Nitpicker Award. Almost 2 years up on RUclips and you are the only one to spot this! Hanging my head in shame, especially as it will remain incorrect for all time. (The award is one I was given by co-workers when I did proof reading of a TV station's program schedule - many, many years ago. So, be honored.)
A really excellent video. Your filming and editing are top notch. Too many other river cruise videos are nothing more than camera photos set to music with an occasional description inserted. I'm guilty of that myself (also use Panasonic Lumix FZ-300). I'd love to see more videos if things ever get back to normal.

Yes, great work! We have been thinking of this cruise, and so many of the videos are just pictures & captions set to music. I really appreciate the extra time involved to make this really watchable!

In 2115 hubby and I traveled from Barcelona to Barcelona around the Mede. It was great! Loved Malta and Algiers the most. Later we cruised from Greece to Thailand; that was the idea anyway. I got Typhoid fever and was put off in Sri Lanlka to a hospital and hubby came with me and stayed at a hotel. Trip was cut short. Rotten experience!
