Dominican blowout salon horror story: why I shaved my head bald
This happened October of 2023. I take full responsibility for my walking into that salon in the first place. I had already established a relationship with someone who actually knew how to do my hair. My curls never reverted back to how they were, the color was really damaging, and I ultimately had to shave my hair off bald.
I’m still in the process of growing out healthy hair.
I’m not saying Dominican (DR) Blowout hair salons are bad; I’m just saying to be careful! For those of us with hair trauma we tend to say things like “it’s just hair it’ll grow back” because that’s the excuse from the people causing the trauma. But it’s been more than a year and my hair isn’t as healthy as it was back...

hi everyone! In this video I am going through my new wash day routine that I will be following (until something changes) in 2025. Starting off with a pre-shampoo treatment, the actual wash and condition, and deep conditioning. Every product I used in this video, addresses a specific hair concern that I have. I am mainly in my repairing season in this era of my hair journey. Products used: Shea ...

✨hair inspo✨ simple styles for your braids this fall/winter
Mind blown 🤯🤯🤯 thank you. I can't wait to try this
Dominican ( DOH-min-nee-can) Republic (DR) and Dominica ( DOM-min-nee-ca) are two different places/countries with 2 different attitudes to kinky hair. One wants to straighten it and one is happy to let it be. The DR speaks Spanish, they identify as Latinx and have a population that is 70% mixed-dual-tri-racial-multi-racial ( Mestizo, Mulatto, Indio, Moreno) and 7-8% Black-Afro-African ethnicity. Dominica speaks English, is part of the British Commonwealth and has a population that is 75% Black race/ African heritage and 19% mixed ethnicity. Both countries take part in CARICOM- the Caribbean community intergovernmental economic and political organisation.DR as an observer and Dominca as a member state.
1. I had my hair coloured by a creative & educational director at an Aveda Salon with majority white clients. 2. No cash app. 3. He had been doing my natural hair for 5 years by then. 4. I got my hair cut in a black-owned barbershop by a barber of Turkish Heritage. The colour you wanted was complex. The cut you wanted was complex...that lady was probably just a junior stylist. there are around 5 levels of stylists in a salon: junior, senior, master, educator, creative director, artistic director and the owner of the salon. You should have a full consultation and a patch test 48 hours before the actual colouring service.
5:12 the big sigh 😩
It's ok i big chop every 2yrs.Been doing it since i was a teen 50plus now and still big chopping. LoL im due next month for a Chop.
😊
🔥🔥🔥🔥💙💜
gorgeous
Why do you black out your face in photos, but actually show yourself on video???
This could have easily been remedied without you having to shave your head.
Right, and what would that have looked like?
I do not bother with these girls at them dominican salons
Awfull what a horrible hairdresser!!!!
Sorry, you went through that. I went naturally in 2013 and never looked back
People in the comments are focused on the wrong thing. Who cares if her face is blurred out?? I'm surprised you tipped her, honestly. The color should've been warmer to compliment your skin tone. Sorry this happened to you.
Exactly! These were screenshots from a google review I wasn’t gonna post my face on there. The focus is my HAIRRRRUH. But the girls who get it, get it. Idky I tipped honestly & I agree with the warmer color bc that’s what I wanted. Thanks bb🫶🏾
Why is your face blurred out
You're very beautiful 🩷🩷🩷
I love it ❤
Saw the thumbnail and I was like “sorry” before even watching it 😢😢
Beautiful ❤
Yesss 🤍
You did a good job 👍🏾
Good job
thanks girl! 😊
I am no hairdresser, but I think she bleached your hair too much. The result would be that the hair dye would look much lighter on your hair. Also, bleaching may be more damaging to your hair type. Bleaching your hair is altering the hair, your curls would still change.
Pretty!
girl literally you!
@@kevelldonna Thanks, beautiful!💖💖
I'm so sorry this happened to you. They should call them "Domin I can't" salons. The most I've ever had done at one of their salo s, was eyebrow threading, by a Pakistani lady who worked there.
It looked really nice and pretty close to your inspo pics. They're hairdressers, not gods. It sounds like you just want to jump on the badmouthing bandwagon.
@@dabeezkneez8716 1. My hair was cut really short, I didn’t ask for that. 2. The color was nothing like I asked. 3. That flat iron job was terrible, my curls never came back. So my hair was damaged from the color and the heat. I’m the one who had to deal with the real life damage because I thought I was going to someone who was skilled and licensed to manage my hair type. *I* learnt my lesson. I’m not asking that they be Gods, but if she didn’t know how to do what I asked she should’ve said so. This was my experience, not yours.
Also to insinuate I got my healthy hair messed up just to badmouth/jump on some band wagon is crazy.
@dabeezkneez8716 Bless your heart, this topic may be too complex for you 💜
I am VERY aware of your complaint since I experienced something similar. Shame on that person. I went to a Dominican because I am Dominican. It hurt me to my heart to have come out with dried , fried and whacked hair done by allegedly one of my own. It might be correct that HERE they may not be licensed. My hair was very full & waist length ,it's no longer that now😢. Condition your hair well , treat it gently, do your own hair. Given time & patience it will grow. Be positive ❤
Okay sorry that this has happened to y’all but got to be honest most ppl that owns a Dominican hair salon or works at a Dominican hair salon aren’t Dominican or have they license to be a cosmetologist.
Thank you girly
Whoa, why can’t these hair dressers know their own limits. That bleach job was terrible!
I am just too enchanted by your pronunciation of 27th boofdi. That's mine now. 😀❤❤❤
Most of them in the Dominican salons are NOT licensed. They aint never seen the inside of a cosmetology school. Go at your own risk.
Or even Dominican
Wait, tell us the salon name!! They don’t deserve anonymity, let us know the name so we know never to go there/ they can be exposed … this woman did NOT let u walk out of that salon thinking that looked anything like what u wanted, she didn’t even try to fix it… don’t protect her by hiding the name !
😢 thisGirl why are you blurring your own face in the pics when you’re on here showing us ur face anyway 😂
At the time of the video, I had lost all my photos. The pictures are screenshots from the review I left on Google. I’m not sure why I blacked my face out lol
Never go to the Dominicans , they know nothing about black people hair, avoid at all cost, trust me, from all the stories I hear about them, Don’t Go.
You should have ran since they said they do not have the tools to shape hair. All that’s needed is scissors.
The last time I got a blowout at the Dominican place, she kept asking me if I wanted a perm. When I had first went there ten years prior, they did my hair without a problem. I never went back. I hear too many horror stories.
Every time I get to the point where I want to go back to them, I start reading reviews and somehow I get the strength to do my own.
This is the same thing many of “us” are experiencing at these types of salons. I went one time and never tried to find another Dominican salon. The lady almost put a perm in my hair too?? I think they’re trying to be funny. They know good and well most of “us” are going there for the Dominican blow out…

I am convinced that Dominican women do not like black women.
Dominican hair salons center on straight, loosely curly hair. If they damage you... the attitude is: it's your fault for being Black... basically.
That’s a 1st have u seen their hair texture? That’s insane that that’s the attitude to begin with.
@@blueskihigh That's precisely why they hate it so much
I'm still balding from the scalp burns caused by their aggressive blowdrying. I had waist length 4b/c hair that was extremely full. I was 19....I'm 39 now. It never got better and the burned spots never grew back.
Oh my, I’m so sorry to hear that😢
Oh my goodness. I’m so sorry you went through that.
Love the creative way you achieved this style. Chefs 💋
☺️
Trying this ! ❤
ouuu yesss
Periodt
off topic but not my dumb self thinking you just whipped out a bunch of carrots 😭🙏
Weeeaaak😂
You did an amazing job 🎉
thanks bb!
💯
Nice❤
You’re pretty
How do you tuck the puff ball?
I wrapped the hair around it before I started braiding!
for a cleaner look, try adding gel to parts!
To avoid the hair/elastic from slipping since it was so short, I purposely didn’t add any.
@ ohhh. okay don’t mind me girl 😭🙏🏾
@@Masai-o4t it’s ok lol I’ve learnt through trial and error😭
