Karthik was outstanding in this movie. "Agni Natchathiram" and "Gokulathil Seethai" "Ullathai Azhi tha" showed his range, its criminal of Karthik to throw his career away like how he had done. Such a huge "what if" if Karthik was as professional as Rajini/Kamal.
Prabhu is Goutham and Karthik is Ashok. The names were mixed up multiple times. Otherwise the discussion is very interesting.
@@Ashuravmax thank for sharing that observation. My excuse: just like their dad, we were trying to mix the names up because we didn’t see them differently 😀
I like that scene in railway station and in train when prabhu (Gautham) sees Malliga and reluctant to speak first, moves to other compartment and then protects Malliga. When Malliga is dropped at home, she calls Gautham anna and prabhu turns and acknowledges that . Super scene in my opinion. The other scenes are when Prabhu takes the police role and karthik runs from ground to meet him. Camera angle and bgm. Many other beautiful scenes including whenever vijayakumar often changes names when speaking to both Prabhu and Karthik.
I was 8 then and discovered it on VHS, i was absolutely amazed by the swag of Karthik, and fell totaly for Amala, how beautifull she was 😍 i hope i will marry that kind of beauty and still unmarried 😅 thanks for reviving sweet childhood memories guys
@@guandhi very best to you on your search ✌🏽
For me movie is mostly entertainment and blending in a message helps it reach better ! Kaala is the right example where message became primary and hence it didn’t work !
Good analysis. ore Rajini..... adhe Rajini ❤🎉😊
Sir Stopping Rajni from doing Rajnism is the Director strength.

I will catch lubber pandu and vazhai when it come on ott guys, and if you have the chance, try 'all we imagine as light' by Payal Kapadia, with Kani Kusruti, romba unique anna padam, photography is exceptional and it's this year's Cannes grand prix, feel proud as NRI from France, hope that one day a tamil movie like Kothukali or Vazhai will win it
@@guandhi has been on wishlist, but ‘All We Imagine As Light’ wasn’t released in the US and there’s no OTT option yet.
just the cinematography in the trailer is so alluring. not sure if it was shot in film or digital but the grain adds to the beauty and very reminiscent of 80s govind nikhlani films. looking forward to it. - subbudu
Kottukkaali..👑🐓🧡
Thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
I watched in theatre but to see what was trimmed down / cut, sorry to the film team, I saw the pirated version. The scenes elaborating the state of Karthi in first Maattu Pongal after Jallikkattu ban & Karthi pouring his heart out in the dam were little drawn out but still stayed relevant. I think most of the people missed out the emotional aspect of that... the rebel Jallikattu scene in which even the policeman plays "ஏறுதழுவுதல்", the conversation at the dam shows how Karthi is empathising for Eelam Tamils, those who died in Sterlite protest - he is aware of things that happen around him, he is not ignorant (அறிவிலி). Despite knowing all the injustice around him, he retains his innocence (அப்பாவி). Since those scenes are cut, people think Karthi is an innocent villager who lives within the well without exposure to literature & surroundings. I just hope that these scenes are retained in the OTT version.
Thats tanjore big temple, நீடாமங்கலம் temple was shown later when அரவிந்த் visits marriage function

Padama ethu kadichi kotharikkanugga you guys covered very well, similar thoughts I went thru but the movie was too much!
It's surprising that a foreign cinefan can be more tolerant with few imperfections of the movie but it's a good attempt and hip-hop Aadhi will be happy if he saw that his work is appreciated
After death Matta song placed nu haha panringaley left side uncle. Did you forget that song was performed by antagonist Vijay. Instead of song Do you want him to cry for the death ? Uff. Seems like the left side uncle as a mentalan fan couldn’t digest the success of GOAT. Consider having Gelusil uncle it will reduce the Burn.
@@AjakrySports Sorry for the trigger thambi. All I’m saying is let us process an emotion. Was expressing that transition to a kuththu was too sudden. Not sure if fans like you get this - people have different reactions to a single scene. This is not a national anthem. Gelusil ✅ - Uncle on the left
@@pesumpadam_ too sudden ? Pff.. Are you expecting to display any prior notice before song. After continuous murders they’ve played Matta song in which enemy gang cheering for those murders. It’s very much relevant and placed on proper timing. Going forward We ll inform VP to display no smoking kinda notice before screening songs. 😂 Can expect only these type of sappa kattu from mentalan kanth fans. Anyways uncle wish you to have good rest of life as a retired reviewer.
Adhavadhu, me saying the movie was good, VP is under-appreciated as a director or Vijay's acting was great did not register. Your one takeaway was that comment that a song placement seemed too awkward. Or, was it the suggestion that the movie was only going to be a moderate success, at best? The irony of you throwing "sappa kattu" at me, while trying real hard to explain why you think I shouldn't have made such an observation...Pff - LHS Uncle

Great director Indian cinema pa Ranjit ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Super film ❤❤❤❤❤
16:52 sarpatta parambarai too, when Arya loses his way in life with drinking and hooliganism, the editting was just super paced with fast cuts to show the rapid descent to failure. There were some of it here too. Spot on, no spoon feeding.
yes, agree that part had sharp editing.
I loved the movie too. The effort and attempt was bigger than the result. But i had a big problem with the music and score. GV Prakash is not going to be equal to SaNa. For all his talk of budhism, i wish Ranjith can somehow peacefully reconcile with SaNa. Their combo is magic and that was missing here. I have been hearing the same drum patch from GV prakash in Mark Antony, Captain Miller amd this. The score is just loud and noisy. Some places i just wished there was no score. 😢
On telephone manipol: Music composers buy DAW softwares and on top of that Plug-ins for additional instruments. both these come with royalty free samples in huge libraries. These are free to use. This beat could be, from those libraries. So technically its not copying. Am positive Rahman uses Apple Logic DAW because i have discovered so many loops from apple logic libraries in his songs since then till even now. Example: The sivaji song start of “suryano chandirano yaarivano saatenu sollu” is a sample with irish lyrics from those libraries. This particular song, the beat is just in the background as all the music is on top of it. But, i agree they sound super similar. But listening to rahman all these years, i havent seen him copy anything outright. So this is my theory. 😊
Even when urmila asks where have i put weight, its spb voice saying “inga” 😂
Oh that's a good catch!!
I don agree that Chandru should have been made negative. We had to believe he was the hero in the beginning and then see the ways of his behaviour to realise we are the same. Besides, we would have not felt the moral battle of senapathi to kill his own child if he was painted negative all the way. He had to be likeable too, negative too.. and in that way, normal like most of us.
Guys, sorry to say, you are just watching it with rose tinted glasses, because it's Shankar. Imagine if any other director had made such a movie with an actor like Kamal Haasan and on a budget of about 250 crores...... would u have said the same.... ?
Leo movie story nala irukku sollaga drink 🍻 cigarettes 🚭 bhodhai hero super soluvaga

Personally, i hated the movie and walked off before the hulk hogan scene because, they killed the spirit of the first part. The tonal shift was crazy between the two parts. Take the batman trilogy for example, everything frkm the writing, editing, tone, music, ambience and everything will be the same. Indian 1 and 2 were widely different. Take any aspect, the difference was staggering. And that i think is the main reason for most people’s anger. About the hulk hogan scene, You cant have a 110 year old showing muscles when you showed the same man as a 75 year old who was limping normal. But i agree with the point that “barking dogs” would have been a solid standalone movie. As ulaganayagan says “padam nalla illana nalla illanu sollunga”: on that note, “padam nalla illa”
fair point, if you bought into the story then you did and if you didn't then you didn't. and that is a world of difference in terms of the experience.

My first watch experience was similar to Subbudu's. I was just blown away by its freshness and pace. I have not watched the telugu movie you mentioned..will check them out. Another similar telugu road movie i liked at that time is "Anaganaga Oka Roju". Again by RGV.
The way popular music is made is so interesting and unique to India. In that a movie director come up with innovative situations for which the music is neeeded and varied artisans come together to craft it. The song in Unnal Mudiyum Thambi comes to mind - "Enna Samayalo". How many counties can boast of a song for such a situation. This arrangement throws up songs for such varity. We are so lucky to be able enjoy this. You mentioned of YS Raja. I was thrilled to stumble upon his "Moondru Per Moondru Kathal". All songs are good. "Aha Kadhal" is a treat. Just realized this song was written by Thiru Na. Muthukumar. Great episode.

Hello Anna, That was a wonderful podcast session! Thanks to you and Hemanth!!! It was a nostalgic experience for me. I had the chance to watch the preview show in four frames at the age of 7, which was the only film preview I've ever watched in my lifetime. I also had the opportunity to meet the cast and crew.
