How to Make Feijoia Jam! // Step-by-Step Guide to Making Feijoa Jam from Homegrown Organic Feijoas!
Feijoa (pineapple guava) trees are very productive and you don't need a lot of trees to produce an abundance of fruit! If you're harvesting more feijoas than you can eat out of hand, perhaps feijoa jam is an idea to consider!
Ingredients are pretty simple: 1 (or 2) part fruit, 1 part sugar, and a squeeze of lemon juice. The cooking and canning process was pretty easy and didn't take too much time. So we think this is a practical way of consuming feijoas!
Feijoa jam tastes like jam--but has those nice tropical notes (pineapple, kiwi, custard apple) that you might not get with your conventional berry jams. So it's definitely a jam to have in your fridge or pantry!

How to Easily Roast Coffee at Home with a Behmor Coffee Roaster!!
Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed!
I have this pineapple guava in a big it but it flowered in the summer but it didn’t produce fruit. I noticed the leaves turn brown on half the shrub so I repotted it in a big cloth bag so the roots could get more airflow.
Sounds great! Make sure you water more if they’re in a cloth bag since they dry out more quickly :)
@ thank you. I think maybe. I didn’t water enough because the roots looked fine.
Best of luck!🤞
I dont think thats meyer lemon! I think you got a miss labeled tree. Also newzeland Lemonaid brix would be way higher than 8. Just saying…. I think you guys got confused and are wrong on this video.
Thank you for your feedback.
I'm curious if you could blend different milks together I'm thinking about macadamia and cashew as a nice creamy clean milk but then again you could really play around and why not add home made soy milk and some seasame seed to it and possibly some of the other ones just to make your costume milk? 🤔🤷🏼
We could! Great point! We’ll try it out…thanks!!
This was so helpful. I watched your raising them too. We have the cube and a 9 x 9 walk in but I'll be putting the cube inside it. We have a 6 x 2 x 3 run too so we will make a short tunnel to it. We will have 4 medium-sized. Cream bars.
Glad you found this so helpful!! Hope you enjoy yours too!!
I just ordered a 2000AB Plus! i am wanting to roast a good medium columbian roast. any tips?
Awesome! 👏 it depends on the beans and where they were grown…just experiment with the pre-set settings and that should be part of the fun!
hello and thank you for this comparison, I am French and I don't understand everything. which juice do you taste first while making a “Meyer” or “New Zealand lemonade” face? THANKS
Meyer lemon!! And thank you for watching! We love visiting France!
thank you for your response, have a good day
@blackpanthere06 🙏
I have the 1600ab. I wish I had the beep. I set a kitchen timer instead.
That's great that you found a clever solution!
Thanks so much for the comparison. Have been growing Meyer lemons in pots in Austin, Tex for 20 years. Just bought cuttings of New Zealand lemon from Texas A&M 🍋
Exciting! 👏. Let us know how it goes!!
Have your first chickens stopped laying?
Princess (the buff Orpington) is still laying!
Thanks for sharing 👍
Happy to help!!
Wonderful video. I just got harvesting my ginger and I was looking for ways to use it. I do have a question. What vinegar did you use, regular white vinegar or rice vinegar? Thank you...
I believer we used rice vinegar! Thanks 🙏!
How much sugar did you use?
Very little-we have been using some sugar substitutes. You can use as much as you want to taste!
Wonderful and very informative video....thank you!
Thank you for watching!!!
Great video and informative comparison. By any chance do you have any New Zealand lemon cuttings for sale?
Glad you liked it! No, we don’t have any cuttings for sale. I think there should be a lot of online sellers though!
I guess you have to go online for the more cold hardy bananas? In the Jacksonville (Florida) area what most nurseries have is the same old same old dwarf Cavenish.
Interesting, I thought you would have more selection there! It’s much easier to grow in Jacksonville vs in our area. But there should still be a lot more online sellers based in your area than ours!
@@practicalorganicliving Moving north from Palm Beach County I do not get it either. Tropical fruit trees are hard to come by up here. You can find all sorts of things down there.
Interesting! Happy growing though!
Thank you for sharing. I had no idea there was young ginger and how to grow. I enjoyed the video and learned something new.
We’re so glad! Hope you try it out!
It looks great. With the waxy corn, can you skip soaking it? I know that is recommended for non waxy corn.
Same applies! We don’t soak it-no issues with germination. Hope this helps!!
Thank you for this excellent review 🤗
thank you! Hope it helped!!
Three great cherry tomatos
🙏
Three great tomatoes
We think so. Thanks!!
which variety / cultivar is this pineapple guava?
Coolidge variety. The nursery recommended this one for our climate-there are a lot of varieties but it’s important to choose what grows well in your garden!
@@practicalorganicliving thanks for sharing! I'll keep that in mind when doing research.
@@weeb3dev good luck!!
This is indian Verity 😊😊😊😊
Yes! A great one too!!
Great video. Do you have a follow-up 1-year update on how this machine is holding up? I'm considering roasting my own coffee and I want to make sure I'm buying a dependable machine. Thanks!
Thanks for the video suggestion! We'll put it on our list of videos to make,. In short, it's holding up great and we use it regularly! :)
Black Cherry is definitely best left until it's quite deep purple color I think, you can definitely pick them when they're that maroon sort of color too though. I usually just throw them in the bowl and they're pretty deep purple within a few days
Black cherry is a good choice too!
i heard that raja puri is extremely hard to get i ordered one from online but may not be a true raja
Hope it turns out to be a true raja! It’s a very common banana in the world and in our area because of its cold hardiness
Was windeeing qhat do you use for your run floor? And how thick do you have to fill it up to? How often it need to be cleared/cleaned/replaced? It rains quite a bit here so researching best way to avoid it being muddy. Your video is amazing as im considering investing in the eglu cube in the future
We used 2 feet of mulch. Our native soil is clay so that gets muddy after rains !!
Any recommendations on where to buy raja puri banana plant?
We bought ours online. If you live in an area that carries banana plants, you can check it out! We prefer not to recommend any particular source because we can’t verify if the plants are reliably good.
Great video and thanks. Any reason for not buying those 9ft, 12ft runs and going the separate bigger ones?
We really wish we had more space :(. Our coop+ run is crammed between two avocado trees so that’s the largest we can put with our current space. We hope to expand in the future!
Ah Okies I hope you get more scape and expand soon :)
@FidoDido-j7s us too!
What is the gadget you were looking through and for what purpose?
It's called a refractometer, which is what people use to measure the brix (sugar content)
Hello why not remove the dung bin directly so the chicken poop would fall to the ground and we would only have to move the chicken coop from time to time
Great question! We won’t have space to move the coop :(
yum love fava beans. love yalls videos! Would love a video on how your garden is set up as I am wanting to expand my garden but unsure how to do the rasied garden beds. And also information on when and how you fertilize the vegetables. Thanks!
Will add to our list of videos to create :D. Spoiler alert-we rely on our chicken litter for fertilization along with homemade compost :)
Thank you so much for your video, it is very helpful for me to choose. I am going to order Lomi Bloom. Thank you again and have a great day.
Glad to have helped!! 🙏
Thank you…. I’m going to buy the classic!
Great to hear!!
Very clear explanation and it's fun to see the growth monthly. Clear and succinct process shown. Thx. Where do you find such strong ideal tomato cages as yours? So interesting that you started with a part of a potato without a slip growing yet.
🙏! We try to be clear and succinct so that it’s easy to replicate :). These are Texas tomato cages…we got these online a couple of years ago. And also, it’s not practical for most people to do the water/soil method to start slips…we try to make it as easy and practical as possible to start. Thanks for the kind comments!!
@@practicalorganicliving Thanks so you have my interest. Also to hot out here to waste time and resources.
😁
Love watching your journey with the chickens. The omlet is having a sale right now and i am considering one. I didnt see a video of cleaning the run. The new pro coop has the option to open the fence underneath. The cube doesn't have that option. How hard or easy is it to undo the fence from underneath the coop to sweep up debris? Thanks in advance!
It’s harder to clean underneath the coop and you also need room to move so we think it’s inconvenient. But it’s definitely a nice option for the model to have that option! We’ll try to get to a video on cleaning the room this fall. Thanks for the request!!
Excellent video. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed!
Awesome channel! I'm also a huge tropical fruit enthusiast in the Bay Area. What part of the Bay Area are you located in? I'm in the East Bay close to the water and have seen banana trees growing out here for many years. I'm growing one indoors right now. Do you have any pups for sale? Great work!
No pups for sale…pups are too easy to get :). We’re in South Bay so slightly colder in winter. But, bananas don’t seem to mind!
@@practicalorganicliving thank you! I'm going to do the best I can for my banana and I'll keep watching your progress!
@@MarkT923 Thanks! Means a lot to our channel :)
were can i buy these seeds of waxy Corn?
We get ours online. Sometimes from Etsy!
Etsy.com. We searched for waxy corn seeds there :)
@@practicalorganicliving thanks, I'm interested in the fact that it contains amylopectin instead of starch. but I don't know how I will know if the corn I buy is really waxy corn, I wouldn't know how to differentiate it from another type of corn, do you have any advice, I mean I don't know if the seller I find will be trustworthy, that's why I was asking if you have the specific link of the seller where you purchased
@pabloballesteros3571 thanks for the clarification! We just looked at seller ratings and found a seller that seemed reputable-we don’t have enough experience buying from the seller to recommend. If you find a good source, please let us know! These seeds are easy to save :)
It is my first time on your channel and I have just subscribed. Thank you so much for sharing. Keep up the good work.. All the best on this journey
Thank you! we so appreciate it!!
Try to eat this with skin..it also taste great with skin.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Great review! Maybe it had an effect on the company as they've introduced a new large model that addresses some of your concerns. Just goes to show what happens when informed consumers hold these companies' feet to the fire. This now puts the Eglu at the top of my list (so far) in my preparation to purchase chickens next Spring. Also, I had not thought about the hole spacing of the wire enclosure. Here in Germany mice-r-us! Hardwire cloth would be mandatory. I used it on my diy coop when I was living in the American south, where the biggest concern was snakes, and it worked very well. Again, many thanks, and keep us updated.
Thank you for letting us know! Very glad we can enjoy the improvements and a better chicken keeping experience!!
but this model they have is the 'Cube', no? It is advertised on Omlet's website as being appropriate for 6 large hens...
@bimfred a bit small :)
@@practicalorganicliving how do you think the Cube size would do for 4 regular size chickens (olive egger, copper maran size) and 4 bantam (silkie) ? I consider the silkies half chickens :D or would you recommend the largest size still
@emileejeanette it should work! Good luck!!
I love Lemon Drops ❤ You however grew Lemon Bombs 🤣 You might have set a record! I too am growing up a big tomato trellis this year. I can only dream of getting a couple over 2 lbs 😃 What is were your methods? Thanks for the huge encouragement 🙏
Our method was just watering daily and adding chicken litter from our chickens in the beginning of the growing season:)
@practicalorganicliving Thanks I'm trying buried horse manure and composted horse manure mixed with my own raised bed mix. It is gravity fed rain water mornings and evenings. I think I got a chance this year 👍
@foodforestretirement2799 best of luck! We’re cheering you on!
Try bokashi composting
Great suggestion. Thanks!
I grew up in NZ & have lived in Australia for 16 years now, boy do i miss the neighbours lemonade tree haha , everything you described in the video is true, a very unique taste , delicious 👌🏽
