Flute (Di), also known as bamboo flute, Di Zi and transverse flute, were called Heng Chui in ancient times. As one the most special wind instruments in China, the history of flute can be traced back to the bone flute in the Neolithic era around 8,000 years ago. Bone flute was hunting tool wrought out of the limb bones of birds and used by ancient people to attract and capture preys. People later turned to bamboo as the material for flute.
笛，又称“竹笛”、“笛子”“横笛”等，古时称为“横吹”，是中国最具特色的吹奏乐器之一，它的历史可以上溯到新石器时代的骨笛，距今已有8000余年。骨笛是人类先民在狩猎时用来诱捕猎物的一种工具，用鸟禽的肢骨加工而成。后来，人们开始用竹料制笛。
