Hi Bogdan, my son is 11 years old, playing tennis since past three years where he is county player now but still not consistent in winning whole tournament. neither in practise. We tried to understand if he dont want to play but it looks like he wants to play and its his passion. We are ready to support him anyway but still he is not understanding or working the way he supposed to be doing. Can you advise how we can be helping him to increase his self efforts?

      @BogdanGrygorenko Месяц назад

@@smitamankar9791 hard to say but can be few things. 1. He’s still too young mentally and just needs to mature. 2. He is in the environment where people around him don’t work hard and he can’t copy it. He might not understand what hard work is. 3. He actually might be not into it. I always believe that kids who really want it will be more proactive than others. So I’d leave some things up to him to organize. For example organize a match once a week, or let him be a leader when it comes to serving practices. Let him tell you when he wants to do it. How good is his warm up and how good is his recovery session? Is he skipping those or actually does them with a lot of care. This will show how much he really wants it. Another thing you can do is place him in a group with hard workers or a tough coach. Kids adapt really well to their environment. Hope it helps.

Most tennis coaches don't even have a clue other than the very basics. I train teens at the highest level very quickly. Most don't even understand what makes a pro different from a recreational player. No one is more qualified or has more experienced than me. It is only about tennis excellence at the end of the day. Best not to be like everyone else in this world and just tell people what they want to hear and not give them exactly what they are asking for. There is plenty of that. The reason I teach is because others can't from what I have seen in my life. It actually astonishes what I witness most weeks. I am the guy who teaches your high level coach what he has never seen before. Most high level coaches only know more than most but don't know more than a person at my level. I never set out to be this level though it just happened.

Hey man. Those tournaments typically choose players based on itf ranking first. If a player doesn’t have an itf ranking then a national ranking will be used to determine who get in. Many players go to places like turkey, Egypt, India, Latin America to play their first itf because there a chance you might get in qualies. But even then you still have to get to main draw to get some points. My suggestion is to play some local national or regional level tournaments to see where you stand and take it from there.

You started playing a bit late and that’s highly unlikely to turn pro based on the numbers I am seeing from you. With that said do your best to be the best in your city first, then region, and then get into nationals. You have plenty smaller goals to keep you motivated in the meantime. Hey Bogdan! Great insights! My daughter would prefer to sleep on the tennis courts in our club man, ans it looks like 100 percent her passion and she wants to get number one one day, but at the same time she has problemes to follow some of the tips that i give her when playing tennis! Like for instance the most difficult part ist, footwork! you know the normal things, kneeing, open stance, when swinging hip moving plus shoulder rotation, split step, that everyone should constantly perform after every shot of the opponent! We train 2-4 hours every day, but those basic things, to use her body, is something that she is almost not willing to do and to train! She started 1 years ago in a club in Bonn, Germany and aftet only 1 year at 11 will be now playing with the 14 years old girls and she is destroying all the boys and girls till 12 years of age, which most of them have trained more than 5 years, some more! She loves tennis, watches every match, highlights, know everything about every player, women and men, which racket, what age, where they played, you know, etc. So my question to you is, how can I make her start liking those body movements, which are so important and how can i make foot work for her interesting so that she wants to do it the way it is supposed to be done! I will be very thankful if you can give me some tips and or show me resources of interesting drill for an amazing footwork development and also for a decent serve for a child like her at 11! Thanks bud!

Thanks for your comment. Kids are typically stubborn and don’t like to change their habits. The way I like to do it is to show the benefit of a new technique. And explain how exactly and why we’re gonna spend the next X amount of sessions improving it. Also sometimes it’s good for development purposes if a player loses because they’re not able to execute certain skill and that can create a perfect opportunity to sell the idea of improvement. Hope it helps!

Hey Bogdan! Great tips man! A question! My daughter started training tennis at 10 last april! now one year later, she beats all the guys and girls in our club and she is number one in her age group in the club, so today was her first tournament and she played against a girl which is from another club and lost 6:0, 6:0, because she played logically against the number one from tgat club . I asked the girl how long have you been playing: she said 7 years. And actually my daughter has better technique and better strokes but for an year training not the experience at all at tournaments and does not have a lot of knowledge about tactics. Plus her Serve is not at a level that she can count on! My question to you is, is there a certain set of exercises which have proven to be great in order to improve one's serve a lot for a short time, let us say for a month? She needs desperately a much better serve! We spend 2-3 hours on the court every day, but we need a clear strategy of how to really improve her serve, so that she can rely on it in tournaments! Tactics is also a thing that we will start to deeply explore! Thank you for your answer in advance!

Great video. Lots of accurate info that applies not only to kids but adults players who take lessons. My one comment…Running isn’t heavily focused on agility and footwork while soccer places a premium on it so there is plenty of value for a kid who runs to play soccer as well. The two sports develop different things.

@@BogdanGrygorenko at 5:50 in the video, you say if the child is a runner, you don't see the benefit for the child to then play soccer. My point is that there is ABSOLUTELY a benefit for the child to play soccer because running (sprinting or long distance), doesn't require the extreme levels of footwork, agility, and change of direction like soccer does. The footwork, agility, and change of direction are things that are applicable to tennis while running forward in a straight line isn't that applicable because tennis movement is mostly diagonal and lateral with fewer instances of forward straight line movement. Perhaps I misinterpreted the point you were trying to convey.

My 13 year old is a 6'1" bball player. He does not practice on his own. Would rather draw or be oh his phone, or watch YT funny videos. If I take him to practice, he will give me 100%. If he goes to team practice or personal trainer, 100%. His issues are dribbling and other simple fundamentals, and his coaches know it, and i have told him. He truly thinks he is really a good player, but he is inconsistent. I'm just keeping it real. Competitive is NOT Rec, and if you're child sausage they have these lofty goals, you want to help them reach those goals. My issue is he simply won't do the extra stuff in his own to build his IQ, dribbling conditioning etc. If I make him do it he will not have the WILL....to do it on his own, and completely. Daughter is 11 y/o and 5'8". Always the tallest girl on the pitch. Read the above. She plays soccer, as an attacker but those fundamental and IQ things are lacking and getting her to do extra stuff is like pulling teeth. She plays Club soccer and was moved up for the first tournament, and reality set in. I'm just about done with wasting thousands of dollars and my time. Your advice will be greatly appreciated. ✌️

Thank you for sharing this. It’s hard to give any advice without asking you few more additional questions. At this age it can be still maturity to take ownership of his basketball. And also simply going through puberty which will have the mood swings and lower energy level. Hard to say. I will be happy to go more in detail over a consultation of this interests you.

@BogdanGrygorenko well, it's simply laziness, and his friends are more important than his goals. He knows it, he just won't admit it. The daughter admits she'd rather do something other than training away from the club. This will more rhan likely be her last year playing club ball. She can play REC. Thank you.

My son is 7 years old and has played 5 days/week consistently with me and an NJTL program I run since age 4. We live in St. Louis, MO in the U.S. He is advanced orange ball in the USTA progression. He is getting more coordinated every day and starting to develop good racket head speed. I feel like he has a strong foundation. He can hit well with most 9-10 year old green ball kids. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what to focus on with him over the next several years. Btw, I'm a 4.5 level player and part-time pro at a local club, so able to devote lots of time to work with him.

Hi Ben, Thanks a lot for your comment. Congrats, looks like your son is on a good track! It’s hard to say exactly what he needs to work on without seeing him. But typically with this age we want to focus on very strong fundamentals, physical, tactical, and technical. If he starts playing green too early his technique may be affected drastically to the point where you’ll have to intervene later, and that’s a waste of time you don’t want to have on our hands. Assuming he has good technique he needs to start developing basic tactical knowledge and basic decision making. That’s his priorities until the age of 10-11. Sorry if it’s a little vague but that’s as much as I can say based on the information provided. Hope it helps and best of luck to you guys!

Appreciate the open and honest dialogue in the discussion here. Talking about some of the barriers you discussed for junior development is an important first step to push forward the whole process, and hopefully start creating more solutions and opportunities for all juniors with lofty ambitions 😊

While I couldn't get through the whole thing, it's clear the one with hair and an inability to grown a beard is the most handsome and least qualified of the three 🎉

Hi Bogdan. Greta video. I agree 100% on all points. my son is 13 and is training to be a Pro player. have you got any advice or ideas of how a talented young player can get funding/sponsorship for tennis travels because it's very expensive, especially now that he is going to play many ITF Tournaments. Unfortunately the country we come from doesn't support talented players and therefore need to look elsewhere like private sponsorship. If you have any ideas on this topic please let me know. Karl

Swimming then tennis then add rugby and sprint k1, Compete often , good nutrition like fats(butter) and milk. Add exercise isometric hold tendon flex until failure. Then focus only on tennis after 16, but it takes the right mind + will to win + no fear + tendon strength and nutrition, maybe genetics.

Hi, nice video!.. I'm 13 years old and i am currently playing 15hrs per week (turning 14 next year) I've been playing tennis since about 8 yrs old and couldn't join any tournaments because of Covid. This year I've only managed to win a bronze medal in the regional level and a gold in the city meet, I have been joining other tournaments and although i haven't been able to reach finals, I've been earning points and climbing the rankings. Is there a chance for me to go pro?
