A set of ear defenders that were confiscated by an HSE inspector. This time the employee had removed the foam incerts and replaced them with the small loud spekers from a car stereo.

These ear defenders were taken off of an employee by one of the HSE's inspectors. The employee believe that they would still be effective and did not want to loose them because he was able to run his music through them due to the modifications he had made

Here an HSE Inspector describes how over protection for hearing protection impacted on the level of injury suffered by an employee as communication at a normal level was significantly impacted by the use of hearing protection that reduced noise at the ear too much. HSE guidance is to avoid hearing protection which reduces noise at the ear to below 70 dB(A)
