Sew With Mikey
Великобритания
Добавлен 26 июн 2011
Hi, I’m Mikey! Welcome to my sewing room! I love to make sewing videos aimed at beginners. In my Sew With Me videos I break down patterns step by step and walk you through from cutting out the fabric to adding the finishing touches.
Learn to Sew a French Seam
Hi everyone! In this video, I'll be showing you how to sew a French seam, a classic seam finish that's perfect for lightweight or sheer fabrics. French seams encase the raw edges and give a neat finish to your garment, making them a great option when you don't have a serger or overlocker machine.
As someone who loves sewing, I'm excited to share this step-by-step tutorial with you. I'll guide you through the process of preparing your fabric, sewing the first and second seam, and pressing your seams for a professional look. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced sewist, this video is a must-watch for anyone looking to take their sewing skills to the next level.

Unboxing my brand new Brother Innov-Is sewing machine, to show you everything in the box! Find me on Instagram: @mikeyboy235 My page over on Minerva: www.minerva.com/people/1141607 I bought the sewing machine with my own money, and have no affiliation with Brother. This video is not sponsored. :)
Gorgeous! Well done!😍
What is the cost of this machine
I am planning to buy a better machine than my "nightmare Janome" and was happy to see your very detailed review : ). It would be wonderful if you could make one more instructional video of showing how all of the accessories actually work and what they are for since people new to sewing have no idea how to use them and in what situation 🙏. I am impressed with your sewing instructional videos 🥰💖 and it would be amazing to have somebody like you explain and show how and when to use certain accessory and what are other stitches for beside basic zig-zag or strait. Thanks for making this review 😃.
BRAVO !!! I am total beginner and was complaining to my friends that experienced people just do not know how to make instructional videos for total novices. There are so many details and tricks in every step along the way that help tremendously achieving success in having nicely done project. It is important for novice to SEE even basic hand moves and maneuvers under the needle, on the ironing board, on the cutting surface etc., and even just simply seeing fabric "traveling" under the needle. It IS important to give detail about tension, stitch length, and type of foot used and when NOT to rise the needle etc. THANKS A MILLION 💖💖💖!!! Music in the background was also excellent choice, dynamic and relaxing at the same time 🥰, just superb job all around !!!
I loved this tutorial. Do you have a video on how to make kids pajamas?
How do you attach the bodice for the view a.. Do you pull the back bodice or just place it like you did for this and fit the skirt by gathering. I am so confused 😕
Simply the best tutorial I've ever watched. Thank you so much.❤
Just watched your explanations for the first time and you make it look so easy.must try your method of sectioning the gathers as it looks easier that way.off to buy the pattern now .thank you
Absolutely brilliant. Thank you. ❤
wonderful tutorial can't wait till the next one keep up the good work and Thank you
Tbanx.it's really beautiful and neat👍
Thanks Mikey x
Thank Goodness I found you , I understand better now as I was struggling with other tutorials !
Brilliant thank you marian
Thank you! Your videos and explanations were awesome! I just bought a pattern and was so confused.
Thank you, this was very helpful as I'm considering buying this machine.
It’s been almost 3 years since I bought this machine and it’s still going strong! Never had any issues with it, and I do a LOT of sewing! 😊
Thank you for this video! And thank you for using clips and ironing the fabric. so many videos use wrinkled fabric and no pins or clips and I can't imagine how they get a crisp look like yours. thank you! Really good tutorial!
Did you make the other version by chance? I’m very beginner and need help visually
Thank you for your great tutorial! You're a great teacher!
Not me spending ages tonight cutting out boarders and trying to perfectly line up my pages 😂 thank you!!!
Oh no! Well, you know for next time!
Awesome tutorial .. great instructions .. I actually think I could sew this .. Thankyou .. keep the tutorials coming … just subscribed .. 😊
Thanks for the kind words! I really hope you have a go at making it!
I’ve just bought the pattern .. you inspired me to have a go .. thank you 🙏
What machine are you using with the reinforcing stitches?
Hi 😊 I use a Brother Innov-Is A150 sewing machine for all my sewing, and I also use a Brother M343D overlocker/Serger where needed.
Thank you, Mikey! I’m isolating with Covid, discovered your channel by chance and have been binge watching ever since. Your instructions (and filming) are so clear and simple. I’m more of a quilter, but I’m going to try both this dress and the Daisy pattern for my granddaughter. Thanks again from Melbourne, Australia… 🇦🇺
Hi! Thank you for letting me know! I hope you feel much better soon, and I’m so pleased you found my channel helpful! 🥰
Can you do the “Cardamon Coat Pattern” from ohmeohmysewing please? I bought it but im a visual learner.. 😅 and im stuck on the “interfacing and facing “ parts lol
Huge apologies, I only just saw your comment! I will certainly take a look at the pattern and check with the designer whether it’s ok to make a video of another one of her patterns! 🥰
Can you do the jacket from this website please?
This was very helpful. Thanks 😊
I’m so pleased my video was able to help you! Thanks for letting me know! 🥰
I had to return to this video to make sure I did not miss anything. Your videos are absolutely superb. The directions could not be clearer. This is one video I do not have to slow down. Even the music is great and soothing and makes the video easy to listen to. Thanks so very, very much. I realize all the t8me you had to invest to share with others. Keep on making videos. Thank you.

nice job!
Thank you! 😊
This was helpful, thank you!
Thank you! Glad it was helpful! 😊
Love this pattern, wish it was in a larger size. Good job sewing.
I love this pattern too. All I can suggest is messaging the designer to ask if the size you’d like is available? 😊
Fabulous!! Thank you so much 😀👍
I’m so happy you enjoyed it! 🥰
Maravilha.👏🧵
Is your sewing machine brother inovis a 150 working good? Does it create some problem? As i came to know that it troubles because of auto cutter system.
Hi, I can’t say I’ve had any problems with the cutting mechanism. So long as the machine is regularly cleaned and maintained it works fine on mine. If you’ve had the machine for some time perhaps it might need a replacement blade or taking in for a service?
I love it so much, that I had to Subscribe ❤
Thank you! 😊😊
This is an excellent video! Thank you! I want to see a dress for my granddaughter and this tutorial is exactly what I need! Terrific explanation!
Thank you! Good luck, and glad my video was helpful! 😊
That was great usually avoid this but it was so easy . 😊
Thank you! I’m so glad you found it useful! 😊 understitching sometimes feels like extra work, but it really makes all the difference!
I was taught this at school 72 yrs ago, had forgotten how, i can no longeŕ bend over sewing macine, have to do all my sewing by hand, as with fibromyalgia i cannot put my head,, neck over machine,, so any tips on using best type of hand sewing needles,, is there a special type proffessional sewers use.?
Wow, I wish they still taught this stuff in schools in the UK. It’s not all that common these days. For hand sewing needles personally I prefer Milward Sharps, and find for most fabrics up to the weight of cotton a No. 8 needle is perfect. I believe sharps are quite commonly available.
I've not started sewing yet, but will be back here for certain 👍🏻
Thank you! And good luck! 😊
Thanks for explaining this in so much detail. Very helpful!
Thank you! I’m so pleased you find it helpful!
Thank you so much!!!
No problem, hope you make one! Let me know how it turns out if you do!
I'm so excited I found this video! I want to make my granddaughter a dress and this video is awesome!!! New subscriber You are very detailed thank you!!!!😊
Amazing! I’m so pleased you found it helpful! Good luck, and please let me know how you get on!
Great explanation and visuals 👌🏻
Thank you! Really enjoyed making this one… I have so many pincushions now though. Haha.
Another great, educational video. I'm not a sewistician, but if I was, I'm certain your videos would help me out. Keep up the good work. Darren
Thank you Darren! Sure I can’t tempt you to give it a go? Haha.
@@MikeyCammish if only I had a machine.
This video was the clearest most informative that I've seen . You are an excellent teacher ! Thank you
Thank you so much for letting me know! I’m so glad you found it helpful!
Thank you Mikey! I have a question - with this type of pattern, how do you transfer the markings onto the fabric once you've pinned and cut out the pieces?
It depends on the type of marking, for notches on the edges you could cut them in with scissors or mark with a pen or chalk. For darts, placement lines, buttonholes etc., you could mark these with chalk/pen or use tailor’s tacks. You could also use carbon paper and a tracing wheel. I prefer to snip notches and external marks, and for internal markings (like darts) I tend to use a water soluble pen. Be careful to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations as some pens will become permanent if you iron them etc.
@@MikeyCammish Thank you! I'm a total beginner so all this is new to me! I will be trying to make a Daisy dress like you've made for my nieces.
@@MsDusty731 Daisy is a great place to start! Best of luck, and don't forget to let me know how you get on! :)
Ahh, that’s where I’m going wrong, I need ‘borderless’! Thanks Mikey
You’re very welcome! If your printer has a borderless setting it’s a great time saving option for trimless patterns!
Never too old to learn - I love the details such as stitch width/length.
I quite agree. I think learning a little something every day is great!
I now understand how to print off a single size PDF! Thanks for the video Mikey; I will keep it to hand when I next print a pattern.
Amazing, I’m so pleased it was helpful to you! PDF patterns give you a whole new world of choices as there are so many designs out there.
Brilliant 👏
Thank you! 😊
