How To understand/work the thermocline to catch Crappie

This video keys on How to understand, locate and utilize the Thermocline to help you catch more crappie in the dog days of summer. To let you know we don’t have to fish deep for them just because it’s 95℉. They’re not always running for the deep cooler water. #crappiefishing, #thermocline, #livescope, #summercrappiefishing

This is Part 2 of fishing and having fun with my son Jarren who’s home on Navy leave since it’s been over a year since we’ve been able to hang out. Again, he’s actually my only son but we had some fun for sure. I’m using curly tails and plastic minnows while he’s bobber & live minnows. Showing him a different fishing style than he’s used to since going to livescope. #livescope #Illinoiscrappief...

I'm clear water casting 25-35 ft out to prevent spooking the fish. When my Jazzysaint Handties aren’t working, we have to figure out what is working. Today that’s gonna be what I traditionally use for this lake, the “Curly Tail Grub.” Finding schools on rocky banks and brush piles.

Boat Flippin' Slabs In March
Просмотров 9257 месяцев назад
You know we love crappie fishing so we’re in east Texas for March prespawn/early spawn flippin’ slabs in the boat. While most crappie fishermen have gone shallow to get them off the beds, we’re sticking around the 15-20ft range plucking the ones off the trees that have either already spawned or waiting to go into the shallows and do their spawning thing. Let’s go get some and ya’ll can help me ...

Lose the swivels and go loop knots. Swivels kill the action and loops knots are just better. I promise you will see the difference.
Ordered the echomap ultra2 93sv with the gt56 transducer livescope bundle today... Very excited to using it
Thnx for watching & a big shout out for the sub brotha. You’re gonna love that livescope. Be patient cause there is a learning curve but that’s part of the journey. If you have any questions, feel free to ask bro. I’m no expert but I’ve learned a few things over the last 3yrs. Good luck bro and have fun.
What's your power supply set up for the livescope system?...
Have a nice set up there. What brand model boat have you got ?
Hey kirtwillis2846 welcome to the channel, thanks for the sub. I’m in a Ranger RT188c boat. I’m gonna be doin a video on my rig setup so stand by brotha.
Good video, just joined, Lake FORK is my go to Lake 😊 keep em coming 👌
Thnx Billynoble9053 & welcome to the channel. Stick around, we have some great new content coming out soon that I think you’ll enjoy

Just found your channel, man great content and very nice slabs! Definitely gotta make a trip up to that lake someday! Keep up the great work brotha! God bless!
Hey man thanks for the sub. I been subscribed and watching you for quite a while now and love what you do. Been thinking about getting a kayak because of you and CnB. I prolly better stay in my lane tho lol. But plz keep watching and I’d love get with you some time and pick you brain.
Enjoyed the video!! Man I like those Live Scopes!! New subscriber out of FL 💪🏿🎣💪🏿🎣
YESSIR! Thanks for the sub man. I really appreciate it. keep coming back man. We hope to continue to bring in great content.
@JeffreyHughes37152 absolutely!! 💪🏿🎣 Keep fishing brother!!
Good video. Just curious, why do you annoynce the time of day when you catch one? Also, are you feeling the crappie thump or bite, or us it all site when you think the fish has the jig? Good stuff.
Fisherofmen9941..1st, I like the name bro. 2nd, those are both very good questions and I’m glad you asked. I’m using 2 action cameras and also recording my livescope footage that has no audio. Therefore I announce the time to be able to sync the cameras & easily find the specific fish catch on the livescope screen It’s almost impossible to sift through 4-8hrs of livescope without doing that. And yes I’ll either feel the thump or make the fish chase the bait until I feel the resistance before I set the hook. I’m not very good at setting the hook by site so I’ll always wait for the feel before setting the hook. Keep coming back bro with more questions on the upcoming videos
@JeffreyHughes37152 Absolutely. Ingenious way of keeping track of the fish you caught. I've gotten decent with livescope, but always looking for tips. Sometimes I'll locate the fish and turn the screen around to keep my old school skills sharp, lol. Keep'em coming and God bless you.
At what point t do you share helpful info like show you rig, weight, jig.
Hey bro thanks for the sub. I did show my pole/reel rig with the barrel weight & Jazzysaint Custom Handtie included. If you’re talking about showing my whole boat/truck rig, you’re right. I’ve been asked that before so it’s something I think I better do pretty soon Plz keep watching. I’ll get it out there to ya.
What setup you have in the front to see the fish? If you send me the links I want to order them asap for my boat
Yo raptor, thanks for the sub bro. I’m using a 12” Humminbird Solix for mostly mapping, side imaging and down imaging. I’m using the 12” Garmin 8412 strictly for livescope. I ordered everything thru my boat dealership when I bought the boat in Iowa. But if you just look up those specific makes and models they are gonna be the same price no where you look. Garmin unit is $3,500 & Hummibird is $3,200.
@JeffreyHughes37152 i definitely appreciate that I'm looking now to order
Really enjoyed the video! Thanks for sharing
Hey Carlos, glad you enjoyed it. I’ve been watching your videos for quite a while now and thought I was already subscribed but it appears I wasn’t. You can bet I am now. Keep coming back bro
@ Appreciate that! I’ll be coming back for sure! Love the crispy Livescope and cool vibes👍🏽
nice show brother. new subscriber from NC
Thanks for the sub bro. And even more thanks for watching and enjoying the video. Keep coming back man. We have some great content coming soon. Plz don’t hesitate to share
I would like to know what type transducer mount are you using
Hi Keith Ashley. it’s called a cable mount and I got it from “Cornfield Fishing Gear.” Mark Ridl is the owner and builder. He has a host of great mounts etc. I’ve also tried his “Livesweep” mount which runs electronically using a key fob and/or a stomp pedal. He’s a great guy and will treat you right. I’ve been down to his shop in Gilbertsville, Ky several times. Check him out. You can’t go wrong.
Thanks
Let’s go cuzzz💪🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🔥🔥🔥
Hey Roz thanks for watching & sharing
Awesome video and content…really enjoyed it. Boat control, jig presentation and target acquisition was straight 🔥🔥🔥. You should do a video on your boat set up. Those crappie brakes looking sweet. Did you install/rig them up yourself or a shop?
Chauncyjordan thanks for watching and the sub. I’m glad you enjoyed it. And wow I’ve been getting alot of request lately for my rig setup so I think I better get that done soon. So stand by brotha.
Didn’t look rusty to me! Good job of CATCHING!!!
thanks bro. I guess it’s like riding a bicycle lol. I eventually got in a groove.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You can’t be rusty fishing structure if you’re using forward facing sonar it’s a shame I remember a time when men actually learn how to fish and they didn’t have to watch a video screen all day
I remember a time when Karens didn't troll around on a jealousy tour playing the shame game
OK Harley Williams I guess I don’t have to comment. Thank you for watching and plz keep coming back for more great content
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Just curious why are you calling out the time when you catch them?
9/10 trying to sync both cameras for post video editing
Rdonner28 is right. I’m calling out times to sync my 2 cameras with my livescope screen which doesn’t have any audio to help sync with

Awesome fishing trip brother 👌 🎣💯
Thanks bro. Ive bee watching you for quite some time also from my personal RUclips channel, then it just dawned on me that I wasn’t subscribed on this channel. Well I just fixed that too. Keep doin what you do.
@JeffreyHughes37152 I appreciate you for thanks, brothe! I am glad we are in connected now! You do the same keep busting them fish!! See ya on the next one! Take care and be safe out there fishing 🎣 👍🏼 💯
great job, but why the 16ft pole? i usually use 7 ft, so just curious.
Believe it or not Chris, the crappie even get spooked sometimes in that deep Lake Fork water. Mostly from the waves slapping on my aluminum boat. The 16ftr helps to get the bait at least 2-3ft further out from the boat.
Great job 👏🏾
Thank you bro! 🤗
Great video...
Thnx again bro for watching..and in answering your question from another format, The brakes are called “Power-Brakes The Game Changer.” The link: Darrin@integratedboatworks.com(tell Darrin that Jeff Hughes sent you). Or try this link..mypowerbrakes.com which is actually the founder of the "Power-Brakes The Game Changer.” And no, I did not install them myself. I stopped in Keifer, OK. and had Darrin install them. It was well worth the time & money.
Nice footage
Thanks for the visit majorbrown. Im tryna get a little more consistent with getting videios out. Plz keep watching & sharing.
I see you OG 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Thnx for watchin bro. I got my eye on you too. Keep doin what you do
Good Video
Hey thanks Chris. We’re just out having fun. Plz keep coming for more good videos
Great video. Love your colors. I tie my own jigs as well. Like the Ranger. What brand brakes are you using? Thanks for any info
Yo Mike Reynolds, thanks for the comments man. Aint nothing like catching slabs with your own handties. The brakes are called “Power-Brakes The Game Changer.” The link: Darrin@integratedboatworks.com(tell Darrin that Jeff Hughes sent you). Or try this link..mypowerbrakes.com
Mr. Jeff great video. can you do a video on your settings for your live scope it's so clear.
That’s a good idea Keith Maroney. I’ll try and get that done. Thanks for the request
Not you getting fish juice all over the seats. Remind me not to get into your boat until after the detailing has been done playa 👍🏾, nice edits though! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thanks for watching Chile. You know it’s gonna be sonme fish juice flying all over the place when I’m in the boat lol. That’s the whole idea
Awesome vid brother
Thanks brotha. I really appreciate you watching, commenting and sharing
Great video Jeff!!! Your friend Alex from ACL
Hey Alex good to hear from you man. I almost called you last wk cause haven’t seen all summer. You prolly tearing the crappie & Walleye up right now. Heading back down next week. Big thanks for watching brotha. Cya next time

Aight Mr. Thermocline 👏🏾👍🏾
Hey shawty. Glad you liked it. Don’t forget to share it
I thought my live scope was messed up because of how fuzzy it got after the new update... Now I know it was just the Thermocline Thanks to your video!!! Thanks for this video and ya got a sub from me because of it!!! Thanks again
Man, that’s great to hear and no, it’s not your livescope. That thermocline is ever present on most lakes this time of year. That’s why I wanted to get this word out. I didn’t understand it for many years and I’m hoping it won’t take as long for others to find out about it as it did for me. I can almost guarantee if you put this theory to practice it’ll put more slabs in the boat.
@@JeffreyHughes37152 heck my screen was so saturated with the fuzziness I could barely even pick out my jig in it so I was staying above it just because I couldn't see it. LOL
I like what your doing OG 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Hey thnx bro. I’m hoping it will help someone out there understand the thermocline better so they can use it to catch some slabs in the summer. For a long time my brother and I were in that group that though you could only catch slabs in the fall..lol. We know better now.
Great tips about the thermocline! Tight video! Just subbed you! TIGHT LINES!!
Thanks Doc, it’s always a pleasure to watch your vids to see how you go gettem man. And you already know how I love your editing process in DeVinci Resolve from when I called and talked to you a couple months ago. I finally upgraded from iMovie to Final Cut Pro and I must admit it’s quite the learning curve but I’m slowly getting there.
Oh btw, I still hope to get down there to have that sit down over a cup of coffee you spoke about. I still wanna get some pointers and kick around some ideas with you.
@@JeffreyHughes37152 So glad to hear you are catching slabs and making cool vids!!
@@JeffreyHughes37152 Come on down!!
Excellent info and great video. I’m in the Chicagoland area and would love to come fish with ya. Maybe even to some Texas lakes.
Yea man, maybe we can make that happen in the future. I’m born and raised in northern illinois area but I actually can’t wait to get back down to Texas and fish that standing timber. Ive been learning so much over the last couple years down there. Thanks again for the sub bro and stay tuned in. I plan to get more good content coming your way.
