ProAutoSports Main Track Firebird Driving the Rush
This was the only halfway decent session I was able to get for the whole weekend at Firebird Main Track on this weekend. CV Joint problems on Saturday and rain on Sunday. My beast lap is lap 6 in the video. still about 5 seconds slower than I was hoping.
SmartyCam 2 is looking good and should give me lots of good data and video for the future.

The last race of the weekend, SCCA Rush Autoworks at the Podium Club. First weekend with the car. This is a long race, but a few things came together for me. Not a great race result, but I'm happy that I felt smooth and fast. I have much to learn about this platform, and I know I will. I'm loving it, and I can't wait to drive it more.

Nice drive! But, what's with this closed cockpit stuff?!
I'm not sure what you mean by "closed cockpit". It's got a full roll cage, she races wheel to wheel, so it's a requirement.
@davidpeck596 Geez, David. It was a joke. Meaning, open cockpit Prototype is where her talents should be. Just banter. I'm not convinced you you don't know the difference between open and closed cockpit.
i had no idea how big of a diffrence the pdk ratios made. its perfection
Nice and smooth. What have you done as far as engine work on that car? I see the wing in the rear camera.
Bolt-on hardware IPD Plenum, GT3 throttle body, Soul Preformance Race Headers, and Exhaust. 100-octane tune. The last time we did a dyno it was 316HP at the rear wheels.
@@davidpeck596 I stopped in Casa Grande yesterday on my way back from INDE, and ended up parking next to your rig. I’m owner of the red GT4, car 57.
@@scottoconnor3484 we’re you at the Olive Garden? I remember seeing your car. Great build.
Very zippy. That's my technical analysis.
Holy moly! 1:40.2! You are awesome Rita!
My best time in this car is 1:41. we've looked at this video and see at least a second she can pick up. But that is very close to a perfect lap.
What are your thoughts on the Rush so far? Talked to a couple owners at an event at Spring Mountain and they raved about it. Entry and running costs are very enticing vs. running a spec car in other series, especially PCA/POC.
Super fun and very fast. Easy to get in trouble and spin. Lots of attention to maintenance and set up, It is a race car after all. The learning curve coming from a street car is a bit steep. I would not hesitate to do it again, but I’m still learning, and I probably always will.
Sorry about the long intro. Nothing happens until about seven minutes and.
Nice driving. What got my attention right away is the very good video quality, but the audio from wind needs to be removed, edited, or something.
Sorry abut the sound. I now have a Smartcam 2 with data and much better sound. I’m racing at Chuckwalla next weekend, hopefully I’ll have some good video to post.
@@davidpeck596 don’t get too hot out there. Last weekend at Podium Club was getting toasty. The plastic center caps melted out of my wheels.
@@scottoconnor3484 I always remove the plastic center caps when going on the track. Period. Yeah it’s stupid hot though.
got central radiator?
Yes
nice
So, that car is Team Pecks? Yay! Looks like 'rush'. (You saw that coming.) I think you paddle shifting, but it's hard to see. Agree with previous poster on lines looking good and smooth a little in to the session. Nice! What a hoot!
It's so fun. Zero nannies, so I was keeping it rained in, out of 20 cars in the race there were about 11 ahead of me. Rita says the sound may be too much for her. She's tried ear plugs but it's still too much. This is starting to look like my car, and Rita gets the Porsche. It's a sad life for her.
Nice pass at about the 11 minute mark. Way to stay in the throttle !
It’s so fun! But racing is scary, I have a long way to go before I’ll consider myself a little bit good.
Great driving and I really like computer setup with the track/speed/map information !
Glad you enjoyed it. Driving on the track is so fun, and then making things competitive takes things to a whole-nother level.
Mods?
Unlike the yellow Porsche.
Was that John B? Wow! That Mazda is glued to the track!
John was killing it a Chuckwalla, with all the high-speed sweepers he almost never had to hit the brakes.
Even more excitement!
Very exciting!
*PromoSM*
Nice. 2:01 is solid!
As I was going through the mini Corkscrew my driver-side netting fell and I had to get it out of the way, I lost at least a second on that one. The blue BMW I kept up with until that point did a 1:59. I also got a little sketchy on turn 14. I have more work to do.
That vbox is a sweet looking unit
I thought the overtake on the civic was gonna end up in the dirt! Nice job putting the car together and being competitive. 👍
The AP Racing brakes do a good job of out braking most of the field. This track is trashed, it's covered with gritty sand/light gravel, and the slicks didn't work as well as they will on better surfaces. Probably the last time we will run it, It used to be a fun one.
Nice! U got some strait line speed
wow what a driving line. I'll be hitting Attesa this month!
do you have central radiator?
is a base 2.9 reliable on a track? does it require the middle radiator?
Did you sold the Cayman?
Holy moly, Rita!
Stiff suspension! Nice hand speed. Good control. That bump at the start/finish is a killer. Thanks for the ride along.
Oh, to be willing to drive over a blind hill at 125!! Yes!! Nice video, thanks for posting a great driving lesson for us noobs.
My young friend Ethan is 18yo, he showed up at the track 2 years ago after I posted on Facebook that I needed help at the track. My wife and I have our own cars and we track them frequently, swapping out tires and fuelling the cars all day long. He's been a great help, so now I let him have a couple of sessions a day. He's coming along nicely, and as always he's a big help. My wife shows up at the 4:26 mark in the video. She crests the blind hill at 145mph.
I race my car up here in Washington, but have family down in Tuscon. Curious if I were to get a little Miata and take it here, do I need to upgrade cooling because of the heat or do they tend to do okay?
A lot of people run stock radiator but is up to you. I was running a 8th gen SI on stock radiator and I was just fine, I did 8 track days and 3 or 4 in the summer. I recently upgraded to a koyorad radiator but because during other routine maintenance the shop broke the radiator plastic outlet. As long as you run fresh full synthetic oil you will be OK.
What app did you record this with? I’m not finding Podium Club in any of the apps like Harry’s Track Timer or TrackAddict.
Great driving !! That is an awesome track !!!
This is a new membership track, Rita's car was the first member car on the track on opening day last January. She is killing it. She's gone faster than this, giving people rides this day, and she had a passenger. She is also winning the ProAutoSports (local club) Time Trial series in the unlimited class. If things go well she will wrap up the win in December. I've created a monster, and I love it!!
How did you like the PDK tune?
Nice
how much horsepower ?
Absolutely awesome car. I wish to own one of my own one day! Enjoy it man :D
The acceleration of your car is stunning. I never saw it again after we left the paddock at INDE. How do you like the Podium track?
Thank you David
Cool video dad!
PDK tune?
Yes, Cobb
Well done. Interesting line in the turn12 through turn 15 section.
I'm flying by the seat of my pants, but I've had about 10 track days or so with this configuration. This seems to work the best for my car and my driving style. I'm all ears if there is a better way to go.
Nice job. What tires were you running? And what lap timer is that mounted to your windshield? I have an AIM system and it's probably more sophisticated but I like the large display of differential time to the fastest previous lap on your machine. I noticed that you almost lost it twice in the left hander just past S/F and into the sweeper on to the straight. The pucker factor was likely pretty high when the car gave a giant wiggle just after your quickest lap. Nice save, by the way. It started going south as soon as you touch the brakes. You got on the brakes fairly aggressively while you were still turning in, which made the rear of the car really light and took away a whole bunch of rear grip. To avoid that problem, you may wish to consider the following...or maybe not. Either way, here goes: The curbing on the left just past S/F is T21 on Inde's track map. It seems like it should be T1 but it's not. Anyway, The sweeper onto the straight is T1. In between about the the end of the T21 curb to about the end of the T1 curb, the car is pointed straight. If braking is delayed until the car straightens out as it leaves the T21 curb, it can cope with hard braking all the way from there to about the end of the T1 curb. Then trail off the brakes as you turn right into T1. If the car starts maximum track right approaching S/F and catches maximum T21 curb on the left, it will be pointed straight sooner than if it's even just a little bit inside maximum track right on approach and even just a bit wide of the T21 curb. If the left front tire is about half on the T21 curb and half over the back side of the curb, with the same thing at T1 with the right front tire, the car will be pointed straight for quite some time (relatively speaking) before turning into T1. You'll be surprised how hard you can get on the brakes without upsetting the car. You don't know who I am and maybe my suggestion is worth what you paid for it. But, it seems pretty certain that if you keep getting hard on the brakes when you're still turning around T21, it will come to grief sooner or later. So whether you try my suggestion or not, you might want to try something different in the T21/T1 combination.
Your suggestion has a lot to unpack, I'll pull out a track map and read it through again. I often make it through that turn without any trouble. My idea is to brake as the car is pushed down into the uphill, but if my wheel is turned then things can go south quickly. Fortunately, the run-off is somewhat forgiving, but getting a consistent flow through that section is something I need to work on. Thanks for your comment, I will try to learn from it.
The data set up is the Garmin Catalyst.
I was just looking at the track map and looking at my video of this section, and I think you make a good point. I'll try this at a sub 100mph speed. I think I'm being a bit cautious about getting too close on the left due to the proximity of the wall.
Just curious - what tires are you running?
Awesome! How cool is that to be the first ones out!
Very zippy, Dave! That car sounds cool! Too bad it doesn't have a clutch pedal. Lol
That thing just slow ya down.
Nice job on your personal best 👍 Keep pushing!
That was a fun weekend. My car is in for repairs, I kissed a tire wall at Bondurant/Radford on Thanksgiving weekend. I will be back!
