3:54 what’s that music
A few months from graduating college in Oneonta and the 4 years I have lived in Oneonta have sparked an interest in trains. Some of my fondest memories of waking up early to study for nursing school involved hearing the train whistle and even faintly seeing the train from my room.
Love all videos about the old steam engines. Since my dad, Raph Acree was head mechanic for the BC&G railroad in Dundon, West Virginia, they are dear to my heart. Thank you for sharing. God bless.
What happened to the bridge that used to belong to the VIRGINIAN railroad today?
Great footage, thanks for sharing!
Is there a way to buy more of your films? Or a list of what you’ve got?
Excellent video and work!!!
Is there a website I can buy your videos from?
More trains and less talky!!
The great old days
Hey, I'm trying to find your NW and Southern diesels on DVD. Where can I find them?
My grandfather was a D&H engineer 1940's to 1960's. His name was John Nemetz from Scranton.
27,000 horse power on that 9 unit GP40/40-2 lashup TV Train. The 1980's were great for CR.
They got footage of the Carbondale station!! And Olyphant station on the old D&H line
This is a well narrated, wonderfull video. Thank you so much!
I’m assuming the Wilmington and Western scenic railroad today was born from the Reading and Wilmington Western?Ive ridden it once and I remember it passing thru those Delaware areas.
Love those Streamline Steam Locomotives!!!
Is this DVD still available?
Wish someone had more film of the Reading W&N. Branch.
I'm from Oneonta and as kid I remember wanting to make the last of Delaware and Hudson Railroad Yard here into a museum. I was born right after the famous roundhouse was wrecked and torn down. There is nothing left but two lonely tracks and most of it is all overgrown with many invasive species of pants and bugs.
The Buffalo Creek and Gauley was a great shortline.
I'm looking for mmm productions cno&tp. Where can I find that?
more reading!!!!
This was from fall 1982 right because I could tell this was after her first restoration in Birmingham when they placed her whistle in the middle part of the boiler near the sand dome and then finally putting it in the accurate N&W position in the turret towards the cab in the 90's.
😄
5:26 The glory days of the HORSESHOE CURVE RETURN! defines the best views of the curves ever compared to today, only your videos from your videos showed the epicness of loud crawling westbounds going under the signal bridge into horseshoe curve and then out reminders of SD45-2s pushing a huge train only remind me what what we railfans are fortunate to have today this year with all the trimming done to the trees
5:49 is so epic I am tearing up because I remember it so fondly from watching when it was on VHS, VERY RAW STUFF!
It's interesting: Blackhawk Films sold an 8mm (maybe 16mm too) sound film called "Diesels Roar on the Pennsy", which is 1950s and early 1960s footage of first generation diesels pulling mainline freights and passenger trains. Was this your inspiration?
I used to own this and let it go. Does anyone know where I can get a copy ?

Norfolk and Western 4-8-4 J Class 611 is a streamline Steam Locomotive, build in Roanoke Shops on May 29th, 1950. She was saved. 611 was retired from N&W in 1959 and 1st donated to the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke, Virginia in 1963 for display, in 1981, 611 was went to Southern's Steam Shops in Birmingham, Alabama for her 1st restoration. 611 pulls the 1st excursion for the Norfolk Southern in 1982 and she continued on excursion duties all the way until 1994. In 1994, Norfolk Southern ended their Steam Program, so one again, 611 is back on museum public display. In 2011, the "21st Century Steam" was launched by the Norfolk Southern. In 2013, "Fire Up 611" was found that year. In 2014, 611 travels to North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, North Carolina for her 2nd restoration, 611 was moved under steam on May 8th, 2015, on May 21st, 611 performed test run from Spencer to Greensboro, North Carolina and return. On May 30th, 2015, 611 powers the "Homecoming" excursion from Spencer, North Carolina to Roanoke, Virginia. 611 operates today.
The Glory Days of Delaware and Hudson Steam.
Southern Railway 2-8-2 Mikado 4501 was pulling the excursion in the 1960's, 70's, 80's and 90's and she continued on excursion duties all the way until 1998 after Norfolk Southern Steam Program ended in 1994.
Thank you for posting this. I've been looking all over to find some D&H steam action!
i have the video but the tapes finally went where can i still find this?
I laid rail in that tunnel- a motha.
Were these Norfolk Southern steam excursions? Excursions like these have come back to NS with 630 for now, and 4501 in the future. Did NS allow any old coaches on the train back then? It looked like there were a bunch of steel heavyweight open window coaches with friction bearing trucks from the 1920's on the train. Now, the new Norfolk Southern excursion train has mostly streamline coaches with sealed windows and roller bearing trucks from 1950's. Friction bearings were banned in 1994 I heard.
rwk360 yes. They had open cars and heavyweight southern coaches up until the swamp Derailment in 1986. The missionary Ridge and queen and crescent club were scrapped on site. After 86, open air cars were permanently banned while heavyweights were limited to only using tight lock instead of knuckle couplers.
Is this available to purchase?
this is not good
EXCELLENT!!!
@IKAPPYI1 This is an excellent video. The video "611 irondale hill" has 611 pulling very hard but you must wait a few mintures for it to come into view. It looks like a volcano erupting. I'm from Roanoke, Va. and the 611 is just sitting there at the museum next to 1218 and it's been there since 1995. Made it's last run in 94 I believe. It's been pushed out by a diesel and moved down the track to the old train station which is now O. Winston Link museum and they move it a foot or two now and then
Part of the reason that we can't have 611 back now is because of the economy so NS decided 2 smaller consolidation locos were better and since they were smaller means less maintenance an more money to keep. Maybe when the economy turns around we'll get some real results. So give to time and something will come. NS's new CEO Wick Moorman says he'd like 611 better but it's too much money to restore so satisfy the public with a steam program while benefiting the company.
Awesome!!! A LOT of blue!!!
I agree with everything that Vintage1976 said in his comment, I saw this magnificent locomotive back in the 80's and NS needs to bring her back next year for their anniversary! Thank you for sharing this great footage!
Awesome video clips!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
