Ringing on Two Levels!
Desparate times call for desparate measures...
By having some ringers upstairs and some downstairs, the ringers of St. Paul's church, Bimingham managed to ring 8 bells whilst maintaining social distancing.
After we had settled into rounds (12345678) we did some Call Changes, going to Queens (13572468) and back. Queens was relatively easy to ring in this setup. I'd like to have recorded more but I found out on the morning of filming that my camera didn't have much memory space left.

Ever wondered how the music works in Bell Ringing? Call Changes is the basic way of creating music for Church Bells, and it's all achieved by swapping pairs of bells in a sequence. Here's a demonstration and explanation for you. Entered into the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers' video competition for August 2020. (Best demonstration of Change Ringing not on Tower Bells.)

A re-upload of my previous video, this time limited to a short section. The section in question covers one of the extents (120 changes) rung in the quarter peal, so rounds can be heard near both the start and end of the clip.

Part of a quarter peal (45 minutes continous bellringing) rung at St. Philip's Cathedral Birmingham on New Year's Eve 2017. The cathedral has 12 bells, but just bells 7 - 11 are being used here, giving a ring of 5 in a minor key. Minor key bellringing is rarely done, but New Year's Eve is a day when it is common.
