If the 4 inch pot graftlings don't survive why not plant them in a larger pot for a year or two? That way you're effectively giving yourself the one you can't find, to plant in the ground. By the way I'm in New Zealand and as Australians call 'Papaya', Paw Paw it's often used here too. I'm still momentarily thrown but since the 1980s I've known of this U.S. native. Intrepid gardeners (who back then had to import their own) have grown them here.

They are all too old and rotted. You need to harvest in late October / early November. Lay them out in a tray and once bletted just scrape off the base and squeeze the pulp and seeds out. You can then boil this up with water and pass through a sieve to make a smooth paste before sweetening.

Thanks. I’m on year 3 with Thirsty Earth ollas. Massive increase in garden productivity. Watering 24/7, perfect amount, no missed watering. I still drip for a couple minutes a day in addition to the ollas, just to keep my soil growing bacteria/fungus. Seriously, I’m roughly double the productivity since before ollas. It’s forced me to ramp up my canning and reduce how many beds I dedicate to tomatoes (over 500 pounds this year.) We just packed mine in for the winter this weekend.
