N.C. Youth Outdoor Engagement Commission

The North Carolina Youth Outdoor Engagement Commission is encouraging and strengthening young North Carolinians’ connection to nature by providing opportunities to engage with the outdoors.
OHAC Field Trip Installs Wood Duck Boxes
OHAC worked with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission and Oak Hill Farms to create a unique field trip for Southeast Area Technical High School. Students from SEATech went to Juniper Creek Game Land to help assemble and install wood duck boxes. Wood duck boxes provide a safe nesting alternative for wood ducks. The students along with volunteers from Oak Hill Farms, and staff from OHAC and NC Wildlife Resources Commission were able to install 16 boxes at Juniper Creek.

Longleaf Pine Savannas are dependent on controlled fire sweeping through or it will evolve into a different forest type. Longleaf pines are adapted to survive in a fire, while other saplings are not.

This free app lets you take pictures of wildlife that you see, helps you identify what that organism is, then enters it into a database that tags the species and location it was spotted. iNaturalist data is available to researchers that study wildlife populations and plants.
