19:41 imagine the adrenaline that pilot had
And tomcat is more maneuverable and has more weapons hardpoints, mig cant turn very well,f14 has exceptional turn Radius compared to the mig25 and the mig31
I am pretty sure that the F-14 could target six planes at a time, a few years before the Mig-31.
with much more limited cone of engagement and constantly moving head on updating the phoenix until goes active and forget about shoot down capabilities cruse missiles
The mig25 and mig31 don't stand a chance in a Dogfight at Close Range,if it's missiles are decoyed or evaded, then All the mig has is speed, many mig25 aircraft of the Iraqi air force which were flown by veterans Of the wars, where shot down by F15 eagles Of The US air force , also more capable mig29 and mirage F1 were easily shot down
@@aris5921 I see - I have no doubt the Mig-31 has a better and more capable system than the first F-14, still it was not an unqualified "first interceptor capable of tracking and shoot multiple targets". First in Soviet service, first at tracking ten planes, first at doing so in shoot-down situations, OK. It is a great system. If you omit the qualifiers, the assertion starts sounding a bit propaganda-ish. "The FIAT G-91 was the best fighter [ever produced by the Italian aeronautical industry, up to that point]" - the phrase as a whole is opinable but possibly correct (the MC-205 begs to differ), if I omit the part in square brackets I am left with a bald-faced lie.
The f14 had a role of defending battle groups and encage big bombers from max distance with phoenix before they shoot their missiles , after that probably use the sparrow to intercept low flying missiles There are major differences in dogma and that is a reason to terminate the weapon system phoenix-f14 on the other hand the mig 31 weapon system is viable and somehow unique for the role that has
Stupid how they replay the first part of the video twice, oh well, was fun for a minute.
Probably the best doco on this aircraft that I've seen.
You know where the Soviet’s really excelled? Eyebrows…nobody grows eyebrows like the USSR did.
by far the best production aircraft of all times
F22
The mig-25's 3.5-mach+ record speed, record 38-km+ ceiling, record climbing prowess, instant scrambling time, and its quartet of huge AA rockets (not missiles) forced the US to cease and desist from flying sr-71s over the CCCP.. The sr-71 had to be retired soon afterwards because suddenly useless while abominably expensive to both build and fly [on top of endless 24-hr 'scrambling' time, sic!]. It was the mig-25 that stopped the sr-71's ** crass violations ** of CCCP air space. This was why the mig-25 was built and it was a job perfectly well done, but one has to say that of course the glorious polikarpov I-16 can out turn the mig-25 (and yamato) like a joke. Note that the mig-25's top speed is 4k km/hr vs. 3.5k km/hr for the sr-71 only that the mig-25 cannot keep the 100m altitude corridor required by the morons at speed records inc. so they don't accept the mig-25 as faster. See the data and plots here: ruclips.net/video/YDN9wv9bois/видео.html The mig-25 has the world record of altitude of 37,650 meters (123,523 feet). The mig-25 carried four huge AA missiles (rockets rather) with an 80-km reach that guaranteed the sr-71 would be shot down. PS. the mig-25’s engine is not "destroyed" after a 3,5-mach+ flight; the engine needs only minor part replacements. See also the data and plots here: ruclips.net/video/vSn9_6Vnft8/видео.html
3000 kilometers = 1864.114 miles
The MiG 25 was truly a masterpiece of Soviet Technology, however it was never on par with tech in the west and the Soviets never had Kelly Johnson!
So why is there not a bomb that floats slowly down and has multiple weapons that can be released individually or all at once and each individual weapon has its own personal target and after all weapons have been deployed from the floaty thing either the floaty thing becomes the final bomb, or just self distrucks
If one could figure out a way to fly a weapon with equal accuracy but not using any satilight systems
Wow 1944 the idea of using cameras inside the weapon was not only thought of, but built and completed into working order, plus the Nazis had weapons a pilot could fly it with a hand held remote control, absolutely amazing and awesome
2:06 first air war RIGHT NOW ON NOVA!
H.. G.m
It’s nice to see a bit more context about the use of the plane. It was mocked for being useless as a fighter, but that wasn’t its purpose at all. Sure, the US had planes that were better for the job, but they cost about 50x as much.
Maybe the next plane will be named B. U. T. T.

SR-71 was better not even any comparison.
Better in what? Taking photos? Are you actually comparing a flying camera to the fastest fighter jet/interceptor, that carried the largest air to air missiles? Go back to watching cooking shows
Question, will JDAM Work without satellite or GPS and rely on Laser Guidance?
Originally, JDAM was a GPS/Inertial navigation-guided bomb. Later versions like the GBU-54 use a laser to assist with targeting, and newer versions of laser guided bombs use GPS/INS to assist their targeting. They all have their merits, the Laser-guided one is the most accurate, but is useless without clear skies. Optically guided bombs are flexible but useless at night, and GPS/INS is capable under any conditions but the least accurate of them all.
Because in 32:42, there's an Incident that the GPS JDAM has struck the Chinese Embassy, as if the JDAM has a Guidance Error compared to Laser-guided Bombs. Also, especially in 34:01, the worst Friendly Fire Incident. JDAMs with GPS Guidance has a drawbacks than Laser-guided Bombs right?
@@mystyle_jm8997 yeah Laser guided are most accurate. Those two situations were error on the human rather than the bomb tho. The embassy was faulty intelligence and the friendly fire was an overconfident bombardier.
Can you please make a video about nova dam busters?
So Russian make 25 bucks test
Two Mig-25 were destroyed by Iranian pilots, one with F-14 and the other with F-5. American engineers were not asleep.
Man this needs more appreciation
Yes
It still remains the fastest production fighter/interceptor ever flown, it was an amazing aircraft back in the day.
Fast with really short range and antiquated avionics and weapons. F-15's/14's would have shot them all down.
@@billenright2788 Actually the F14 is a hanger queen. 30 hours in the shop for every hour in the air.
@@billenright2788 LOL sure, if they could ever catch one with a missile. They are entirely different planes with different purposes. The Mig 25 is a high-speed, high-altitude, very short range interceptor with an extremely specific purpose to its design: countering the B-70 strategic bomber. It is NOT a fighter, nor was it designed to be. The Su-27 or Mig 29 would be a better comparison to an F-15/14.
@@billenright2788 Right after the US figures out where their air force is after MIG-25s shoot down comm satellites.
@@richardpluim4426 That's exaggerated nonsense. The F-14 was an amazing plane, and better than anything the Soviets have ever produced (to this day).
I've never once heard of oil leaking and hitting the pilot from this era of aircraft so is this a true rarely documented fact or did this modern rebuild just have shotty craftsmanship?
No that was the way it was.
@@paulburton8264 OK Cronkite "and that's the way it is" lol all love no hate
Not shoddy, more like a "best solution we have right now" The early aircraft engines were rotary - meaning that the whole engine was spinning inside the fuselage. This kind was chosen because it can cool itself as it spins, unlike cylinder engines that needed water to cool (and water is heavy, so a big no-no for those early machines). But, you need to keep the engine spinning smoothly, so you need oil. Oil on the engine will move as the engine spins, spitting out the front due to centrifugal force. Now you *could* create some kind of enclosure to limit the spitting, but then your engine won't cool as well (again, the fact that the rotary engine was exposed to the air allowed it to cool so well) and you also end up with a lot of flammable oil coating something else easily flammable (the enclosure would have to be wood/canvas because of weight) near a part that gets hot (engine). That's a very bad idea - fire was the worst case scenario in those machines. So the best solution was to let the oil coat inside of the engine (metal, so a fire could be contained) and just let it "air out" during flight. Some will sputter on the pilot (as they're flying into the oil they just spat out), but most of it will just go into the empty air.
@@FredBednarski thanks pal that was a very fun engineering read
As much as I love the tomcat the intruder should have gotten the "anytime baby" motto for its all weather capabilities

So the Mig 25 used special jet fuel? So it wouldn’t be able to run on the same fuel as other jets?
As did the SR-71, you need all sorts of additives at high altitudes

Russia man amazing hey..im a musician and Russia makes great valves for guitar amps and they came up with a pedal called the big muff ..sorta the MiG 25 of distortion. Built so well compared to Asian products. Actually built a bit better then leading USA brands.so there jets must be super solid
