I've never seen any singer cry genuine tears like this without allowing the tears to change the quality of the voice production. Tears are almost always accompanied by tension in the jaw and throat and the larynx loses support (so vocal quality is temporarily impaired). Doesn't happen here. What an amazing artist.
I have never understood the meaning of this song? She is about to get on a train, I guess from really screwing up, and now wants a second chance! I'm sure the guy has thought this though since he has custody of the girl. And if it went to court the court did also! So my guess is he is glad to be rid of her. Or maybe this is her crying over what she has lost. That would make more sense!

When I was a kid she would appear on the Jimmy Dean show and sing and cry and I fell in love with her voice and delivery. She feels the music which makes you feel that music. Try her Spanish CD's. Don't have to know the language to feel the raw emotion. Just lay back and enjoy.

She's ugly crying but she still looks GORGEOUS........And her nose is running and she's all clogged up.... but her voice is still BEAUTIFUL..... Don't know how she can do it........very moving....
In 1976 I bought really nice stereo eguipment from the PX in IWAKUNI JAPAN. That is where I found 4 Lps by miss Vikki. Many years later I still play them on my Pioneer turntable.
If this isn't musical excellence, if Ms. Carr isn't the epitome of a priceless gem, I don't know what is. Ms. Carr, we're at your feet then, now, and forever more.
I have seen her perform this song in concert countless times. She puts the same emotion in each and every performance. This was a wonderful concert with the Edmonton Symphony around 1974. So glad she's still singing and bringing so much joy to the world......even with a tear jerker like this one. Wonderful.
