    Excellent video and good explanation of the process. I've just started a bike fitting business in Australia so spend a lot of time watching other fitters on YT to continue the learning process as it never ends. £500 is very expensive, even with the follow up session and all the post fit information. I'm about half that for a 3hr session with complimentary 1hr follow up and money back if not happy guarantee. Experience, knowledge and good reputation are worth paying for, but £500 is still pretty crazy. Is your foot still going numb and is it 'pins and needles' or do you just lose feeling? Where in the foot does that occur?

    • @LewisFordham
      @LewisFordham 12 дней назад

      @@jasonhurst2491 thanks dude! And yeah £500 is very expensive! Probably a bit too expensive to be completely honest! And yeah I do still get foot numbness, it’s not pins and needles I don’t think, or at least bad pins and needles but I just lose feeling in my toes within about 30-40 mins of riding

    • @jasonhurst2491
      @jasonhurst2491 11 дней назад

      @@LewisFordham bad pins and needles and 'hot spots' are typically the result of nerve aggravation, usually due to compression or irritation of the nerve. Tight shoes (or too small) with not enough width, not enough volume. Cleats too far forward placing centre of pressure under metatarsals instead of behind them. Structural issues with the forefoot or weak foot muscles allowing the transverse arch (left to right just behind the metatarsals) to collapse. All possible causes. May lose feeling if the nerve is compressed long enough, but I expect you'd be pretty uncomfortable up to that point. Moreton's neuroma is also a thing, but you'd be feeling the pain so I doubt that's it. Simply losing feeling or doing so with only a mild tingly sensation is typically associated with lack of blood flow. The affected tissue effectively goes to sleep due to lack of oxygen. Tight shoes could contribute by restricting blood flow, as can the other causes of nerve compression listed above. Easy to test the tight shoe theory by making sure you have adequate room in the shoe to begin with and then only tightening them just enough to be secure on your feet. If the numbness starts to happen, loosen your shoes as much as you can and see if that helps. I did watch your video again and didn't see any mention of foot measurements and shoe sizing or trying different shoes. Some manufacturers, such as Lake, have detailed sizing info on their website so you can measure your feet in mm or inches and compare to their sizing data to make sure you have the right size. Worth messing around with shoes if you can access some. Irrespective of the cause of the numbness (nerves or blood flow), incorrectly sized shoes will create issues. Assuming you don't have any foot issues when running or off the bike you could install some flat pedals and wear known good runners and go for a ride. If no numbness then probably the cycling shoes. If still going numb then probably not the cycling shoes. Blood flow to and from your feet also relies on the contraction of the calf muscles to act as a pump and squeeze the blood back to your heart via the veins. You appear to be 'ankling' in the videos so there looks to be some use of the calf muscles. I wouldn't expect this to be even a notable contributor to the numbness in your case, but worth deliberately accentuating the ankle movement with strong calf contractions next time it happens to see if that provides some relief after a few minutes. I use the G8 insoles as well and they're fantastic, but I have customised mine to suit my feet. If you haven't tried metatarsal domes I suggest you give them a go as they will support the transverse arch and may provide relief IF that is a contributing factor. I find the G8 Metdomes to be a bit high and too firm so I make my own out of yoga mat type medium density foam. Use multiple layers if required to adjust height. I use painters tape (zero residue masking tape) to keep them in place as I move them around and adjust the shape. Then you can use double-sided tape or glue to fix them permanently once you're happy. I know it's a long reply, but even just the topic of foot numbness is a complex one. My website is www dot thebikefitter dot cc or the.bike.fitter on Insta if you want to continue the conversation. There are many far more experienced fitters than me and I'm sure you've watched most of them, but I'm happy to help if I can.

    I actually prefer magnetic. I have a Sportneer magnetic trainer. It has a pretty good road feel. I have used several good fluid trainers in the past, including the Kurt Kinetic. What I like about the magnetic is having the resistance dial on my handlebars which allows me to simulate terrain. If I want to do a hard sustained climb I can dial up to level 6 and push some good watts. If I want to ride tempo on simulated flat terrain I can set the dial to level 4 etc. Also the dial is great to use for doing hard intervals. Dial down to level 2 or 3 when you want to do easy spin like for warm up or cool down. The thing I don't understand about using a dumb trainer on Zwift is what happens when there is a climb on zwift? Your trainer doesn't know and doesn't change resistance to match terrain like a smart trainer. How do you overcome this with a dumb trainer?

    yep, i run barefoot, feet to concrete. when i did use shoes, it was merrell trail glove 4s. kept seeing a bunch of hype about altras, so i recently tried escalante 4. thought they were going to be heavy and make me work harder but was surprised i didn't really notice them. what i did notice was the bounce while running, which is welcome. hoping they will help reduce soreness and recovery now that i'm running longer distances (10-15mi).

    I wish I could like this amazing video but you being so totally dismissive of the very shoes that helped you was frustrating. It's almost like you don't wanna admit how good they are. They promote natural form which makes so many weird issues disappear. You should be promoting them not saying " they're amazing but don't get them". They literally change people's lives. Old and young.

    • @LewisFordham
      @LewisFordham 2 месяца назад

      I wasn’t dismissive of the fact they helped me, I just didn’t want to come across like I’m an expert in what shoes people should buy, I’d rather people make their own decisions on what shoes they should buy instead of me telling people to buy them promising they’ll help and they make things worse or don’t help, as that’d be unfair. I was just putting out what they did for me to help people make a decision for them 👍🏼

    • @CptAngelKGaming
      @CptAngelKGaming 2 месяца назад

      @@LewisFordham You literally said that they're not worth buying in the end, as if what happened to you was just a random thing and not because they're a great option. You kept presenting them as a weird option that just happened to work for you. It's one thing to put a disclaimer there a couple of times and another thing to basically tell people not to buy them every 2 minutes. Promoting natural movement is not a matter of opinion. It should be the default choice over weird "technologies" that have 0 scientific proof of being good for the body.There is a very small percentage of the public that maybe shouldn't get bf shoes because of very specialized health problems, but that's all there is to it. Everyone else should at least give them a try.

    • @LewisFordham
      @LewisFordham 2 месяца назад

      @@CptAngelKGamingappreciate your comment and feedback, not sure you understand the video, I said I don’t think everyone should go out and spend a fortune on barefoot shoes and do all their runs in them as it’s a high chance of injury, I also said I do think everyone should incorporate some sort of barefoot running in their training (doesn’t mean you need to spend hundreds of pounds on shoes)! Hopefully that makes sense

  • @micaelcano4240
    @micaelcano4240 4 месяца назад

    Great video! The one thing that I would have emphasized is that the Vivobarefoots are WAY overpriced for what it is. It is literally a low quality recycled plastic shoe. The ones that he was showing are very low quality for the price. Unfortunately, you can't directly post reviews on their websites, so beware. I think the Vivobarefoot is good for training barefoot, but as he suggested you can not go hard on them. It has taken me a year to develop new running style with the vivobarefoots. I have not tried Altra, but I am considering because the Vivobarefoots has zero cushion and is causing my forefoot to build a callus. I don't know how anyone could run a marathon on them. Anyways, thanks for your honest review.

  • @stay_humbles
    @stay_humbles 4 месяца назад

    Just a tip. Instead of saying "these" and holding them up each time your referencing the shoe, say the name of the shoe. There are a ton of people who listen to this type of content without the video while working or running and when you say "these" the listener has no idea which shoe you're talking about. Not hate, just constructive feedback! Cheers!

It's not rocket science. It doesn't require the level of analysis you go into. It's simply about being a fing warrior and feeling awesome. If you can enter that mindset, like the stuff David goggins talks about, then the issues that arise from over thinking just disappeares. There's a great yt ch called fuel the mind, with a great playlist of goggins motivational speeches. Try it and see if you get back in the groove. 🤘

    Hey Mate, from a random dude on the internet. Completely understand what your going through, this is normal in the cruel mistress that is triathlon. Don't let this get you down, this is just a small bump in the road of a already very successful tri journey. I've had some similar issues in the past and my advice to you would be, to take a step back from the sport. Go out for a run without a plan or a HR Monitor, go for a ride to a cafe and eat good cake, swim in the sea and just enjoy it. While you're doing this seek out physio's and bike fit specialists, but remember always stay positive. Trying to still smash in the sessions when your heads just not in it wont work. They will be other euros and big IM events to attend and smash mate. When I had a pretty low spell in the sport I took a massive step back and just surfed loads, I know you do as well so don't forget that. Give yourself a mental break by doing things like surfing and not being so focused on why sessions aren't going as you've planned. Hope this helps fella, keep your chin up and one day I'd love to race/train with you. 🤙

    Good effort. I used to get alot of stictches. I had to up my salt intake and it helped massively. I eat plenty of salt in the weeks lead up and then a few salt tablets on race day. Im a huge sweater 🙈

      Thank you dude!! Yeah I think that’s the most likely cause of the issue, some sort of dehydration/lack of salt! I can tell because it gets worse the more dehydrated I seem to get, I’ve started doing some testing so fingers crossed I get it sorted! 😂

    Brilliant effort. Everyone is different who suffers from stitch. I suffered for 10 years & got to the point where I couldn't eat or drink for 90mins pre race. I then started taking antacids at the end of the bike, which made me burp & helped a lot 😂. I've also found I'm better with a bit of solid nutrition in me. Basically fluid sloshing causes wind & stitch for me 🤷

      That’s something I’ve not really considered actually! I always use fluids/gels for nutrition, might have to try using some more solids and see if that helps! Seems to be a bit of a guessing game haha!

    Well done mate great effort, i seen you last year talk about calf guards, what ones are you using now and have you seen a difference?

      Thanks mate! I’ve got the nopinz ones, if I’m completely honest, I can’t really tell a difference but the difference if it is making one is likely so small it would be hard to tell without a wind tunnel! They do feel nice to wear though, makes getting my wetsuit on/off easier and keeps my legs a little warmer 😂
