​@@Bobothan-qy1ql Worst character gotta be shallan simply because of the seemingly never ending mental problems and took an eternity for her to move on from them, but brandon specifically wanted to write mental struggles, trauma, mental illnesses, so its whatever but I would've liked a version of the stormlight archive that only had 500 pages dedicated to that, not thousands and thousands of pages dedicated to it. I couldn't even tell you what happened in oathbringer besides a battle at thaylen city i think its called with stone giants which idk how those showed up but they did and i think teft becoming a radiant in that one at the end and also the flying paintball fight, everything else was just fucking narrative that i did not retain to memory. I don't even know if that's the correct book that happened in lol, but I hope in book 5 this duel for the roshar better be epic.

I do agree with that NGL. I have an unfair bias on Lift being my favorite, but let me explain my shallan annoyances. First of all, the fact that she’s just flirting with Kaladin, and also betrothed to Adolin just annoys me. (It’s acknowledged in Oathbringer that her and Kaladin do a kinda-flirting thing) then separating Shallan from Veil and Radiant as if they’re actual people… I just don’t get it. Does she have SPD? (Split personality disorder)

@@Bobothan-qy1ql Yea but in Oathbringer the whole will they/won't they between Kal and Shallan is resolved by the end where she clearly chooses Adolin. Also I am sick and tired of people bringing up her mental issues, considering what she had to do and what she went through they are entirely understandable and even make interesting new personalities with Veil and Radiant. Which is actually acknowledged as a sort of coping mechanism to deal with her past traumas which end up being partially resolved by the end of Rhythm of War. As far as lift? I feel she is a great side character, but is too much for me to deal with as a main character which is why I stopped reading Edgedancer a third of the way through.

I wouldn’t trust a move or TV series adaptation, but there is a TTRPG, and there is talk of a video game being made. (Not nessecarily an adaptation, but a video game set in Roshar)

Idk. It’s debateable. Remember, the writer of THE WHEEL OF TIME. A series appraised as one of the best works of fiction EVER, chose Sanderson to finish the series once the author died.

While I don't necessarily agree, its always gonna be Oathbringer and Words of Radiance for me, but I honestly can not fault your choice. It is a FANTASTIC book.

Disagree. Oathbringer is the best quite easily to me. Rhythm of war is definitely the outlier for me, quite easily the worst (not to say it’s bad). It definitely Felt like a “waiting for the ending” kind of story, setting up the halfway series climax coming in the fall.

Venli's and Eshonai's flashbacks were not as gripping as the others. They're mainly there as plot points to show the meddling of the Scadrians trying to return the Fused. Not only that, but everybody was very much separate from each other in this book. Kaladin and Lift were the only Radiants awake for most of the occupation of the tower. Navani and Raboniel carried the book and still it was a long haul. There were big moments with huge implications, but even still. It reads differently from the rest.

It is important, and unless there are special circumstances I would highly recommend reading them, but they are not absolutely necessary.

I like both of them a lot and I’d recommend reading them, but Edgedancer is probably not necessary to read as most of the events that happen in that novella can be inferred from the text of the later book. Dawnshard probably will be in a similar boat. However, both of them introduce a concept that will probably play a large role in the back 5 of Stormlight so you might want to read to get a teaser of that.

Nah, skip edgedancer and go straight to dawnshard. The Lopin!

You don't need to read them to understand the rest of the story. If you like Lift then read Edgedancer. If you like The Lopen and Rysn then read Dawnshard. I think they are great, but not needed. At the end of the day its just more Stormlight so I say go for it. But I get why people wouldn't want to.

I did it and it went just fine for me, however, it does have lots of information as to why some characters act how they act in Oathbringer Or, I read Oathbringer and then Edgedancer immediately, and that helped fill in the slight gaps before starting RoW

You can, but it is recommended to read Edgedancer first

I read the entire series before reading any of the novellas. And I didn’t notice it affect my experience in any negative way. But they are meant to be read in between.
