Iris Order Unboxing
Hi guys! Welcome back to my channel :) I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a while, life has been keeping me so busy! In today’s video I wanted to share with you my online Iris order as I unpack my boxes from three different vendors: Sutton’s Iris Gardens, Schreiner’s Iris Gardens, and Breck’s :)
Although I ordered most of these at the beginning of the summer, fall is the perfect time for planting and transplanting Iris as it gives them time to establish themselves before the cold winter months and hopefully I will have some nice blooms in the spring.
If you want to check out these vendors online websites, here are the links:

I collect different types of epiphyllum but would like to get a German Empress Epi. Where can I buy one?
Some new flowers bloom this week. Rain can damage the plant
When you say it got down to zero, I assume you're referring to Centigrade?
Hi I love ❤️ your video and I have a question do you now were I can buy Iris because I leave in Ireland 🇮🇪 and I received just rhizomes 😢really difficult
Hi, Thank you for the wonderful video. I just bought a one small plant of this. What is the medium that you used to plant these?
Thankyou for this information! I am struggling to get it to flower. Do you fertilise it?
Hello Garden Guy I have tried to grow jewel orchid s. God the money I have wasted, but I love them. So I've come to u for pointers. I have one left the black jewel. I just recently cut it , it was abt 6in tall, just one piece is all I had left. The top cut is in a mixture of plant food/water the other half is still in my other mixture. Potting soil, perlite, orchid bark and Lil charcoal. The pot is abt 5 in wide and abt 2.5 in deep with holes at bottom. What am I doing wrong? Sorry for the long text. Karen
I found these online at Walmart, got my self 3, 58.00 dls each 😮 I’m sure it’s going to be worth seeing them in my garden. Thanks for showcasing yours on the vide, just stunning.
Only 10°F. My plants. I had in New Jersey. They died when it was only 30°F. You don't explain yourself. How often do you water these plants once a week in the summer twice a week? A once a month in the winter I've heard these plants. You don't need to water them. In the wintertime they say keep them dry from November to March. But then you say, keep it moist.Sometimeso, I'm totally confused. How often are you supposed to order these in the winter time once I'm once a month and how How much water one cup of water? 2 cups of water. I read outline many places. They say don't overwater these plants. They like to be kept dry in the wintertime. I've spoken to an owner of a plant place. She said she doesn't water her November to March. So I'm totally confused. I need to know what to do on the water. One cup of water a month, 1 cup of water a week. What is the deal on this?Does anyone know ????
I was told not overwatering it. I was told only 1 time per week
Dont need too much water . Rain can damage the plant . Plant food Start bloom new flowers in May .
PLEASE TELL ME HOW OFTEN TO WATER???? YOU NEVER SAID HOW MUCH WATER??? HALF CUP?? OR FULL CUP????? I LIVE IN SOUTH FLORIDA NEVER GOES TO BELOW 60 HERE IN WINTER PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I NEED TO MAKE MY PLANT BLOOM??????
Dont need too much water . Rain can get damage the plant I water daily - plus some plant foods.
That's a beautiful plant so how often do you water it where can I purchase them???? Someone told me just water them once a month in winter in every two weeks in Spring and Summer I heard if you overwater them they will die I bought one plant it was a big plant cost me $50 last year I don't want to kill it with overwatering also how much fertilizer do you use??? Some people say fertilize once a month some say fertilize every two weeks whenever you water them and then I heard someone said every 2 months in the spring and summer???? So I don't know what to do???? I'm in South Florida I have mine on my patio all year round. Now I did have my plant in New Jersey shore a few years ago a different one it died when the temperature went down to 30° the next day or two days later the plant was dead and that was a waste of money which I hate to waste. Anyway now I have a big plant I wanted to bloom so I can get those white flowers that bloom at night can you tell me how much fertilizer I should use???? Call me and let me know 848-466-8390 anytime 12 noon to 12 midnight east coast time
I have a question can you put different varieties in one planter?? So you'll have multi colors in one pot????
Will this work for any jewel orchid? I have a variegated on I want to do it with
Amazing orchid! How does it feel in this substrate, is it still alive? Thanks for the video.
Mine have been droopy since i brought in for fall/winter. And i noticed a few leaves turned dark and dried up so i removed them and sprayed with a fungicide. At first i thought i overwatered but it's been over 2 months and its still droppy and sad looking but continues to produce blooms. I kept in a window with full sunlight and thought maybe it was too much so now i have it under a plant light. What could be causing the drooping?
I’m not sure to be honest - maybe try and take some tip cuttings and propagate it.
Do I take cuttings from the flat leaves or flat and three sided leaves ?
In my experience it doesn’t really matter. Both will root equally well.
I have had my father's Epi for over 50 years with only sporadic blooming. The plant is healthy looking and huge but rarely a bloom and then only one or two at a time. We are in the Midwest. I am going to follow your suggestions and hope for the best. Thank you so much proposing this informative video.
You’re welcome- Good luck ! Let me know how it goes :)
Some of these oldies are timeless! Gorgeous!
Thank you :)
Do you ever fertilize your Epi’s?
Yes I do every once in a while - just with African violet fertilizer.
Plant foods is ok
Puppy! Thx for video, was informative
You’re welcome ☺️
Help, help help! We live in Sydney Australia we occasionally have one bloom that survives, ret drop off. Plus, we have horrible looking leaves. Look like they are fungus or mould infected. Where can I send a photo to you?

just purchased one excited about your video
Hope you enjoy it!
Hello, Help... I have the white Queen of the Night, my neighbor gave me a leaf back in 1999. It took years before I finally got it to bloom.2yrs in a row it had 8 blooms on it. This year however I saw 1 forming then dried up & fell off. I have it planted in premium organic pro mix. My issue is when the dirt dries out some, I water it then the leaves go wrinkled & wither. But now I have noticed the leaves are turning pale yellow at the ends, then goes brown & dries up as it goes down the leaves towards the plants main stock. I took my smaller plant of the two & took it out of the dirt. The roots appear to have white fungi growing on them. I washed the dirt off as best I could sprinkled a little hydrogen peroxide & water to kill the fungi. But I am not sure if this is the actual cause of the plant turning. The fungus is not thick on it. Now Iam wondering should I use 3/4s pro mix & add a 1/8th more perlite & a 1/8 of cacti & orchard mix for dirt. As I find the straight pro mix holds water too much I think instead of draining away quickly. But like I said as the dirt dries out I water & the leaves wrinkle. My plant is in my master bathroom which has south-facing sun. It loves it in there, when it gets to warm I give it a fine mist. But I have never seen anyone mention that they have had problems like I have with the leaves turning. Hope you can help, thank you.
I’m not sure what to say about this. I would probably take some cuttings and then replant your plant into some different soil and let it get a little bit dry in between waterings so that it doesn’t stay wet. Hope that helps!
Great for the Coel. blooming indoors. Can you tell me the temperatrue you had it in? Did you give her a night drop? TIA.
Hi there - yes I did let the temperature drop about 10-15 decrees Celsius overnight. About 22 degrees day temperature and 10 degrees at night
Their flowers are mind blowing ❤
Thank you 😊

Any changes in fertilizers? I grow dragon fruit and we use fertilizers to help with blooms. My epiphyllum doesn't seem to respond in the same way with the ferts. I'm also in SoCal so the warm days, cold nights was optimal in Spring and Fall but we still haven't had any blooms. Everything else was according to your description. Any thoughts?
My only suggestion would be to increase the amount of light if they still aren’t blooming. Hope that helps!
@@westcoastgardenguy1990 Thanks! I'll try that next spring to see if anything changes.
It is mid July now , can I place the cactus near the registers of air conditioning during the night and place it by the window during the day. Would that work for cooling off during the night (placing it near the air conditioning registers )and warming up during the day by placing near the window ?
They typically bloom in the spring and fall for me when it is naturally cooler in the nights. I would just wait until the fall and keep your windows open in the evenings/overnight.
Do you let the cacti callous over regardless of what propagation method you use
Yes I do try and let the ends dry and callous over whichever way I propagate :)
Good thing it’s just a plant! Lol if you just watered it it wouldn’t have looked like that lol. 🥱
True!!
I think over-watering can also make them look like this... :(
True, but it led to a video that taught a bunch of us how to propagate and create new plants! Thanks.
Is it possible to propagate from just a leave?
Not that I know of but honestly I have never tried.
Im going to say tentatively; no. Not for streptocarpella. I did try rooting both leaves and stem cuttings this summer and while the leaf cutting did produce roots, it never produced new shoots. I would venture to say that this is a blind cutting, but i did not keep it past the 3rd month.....that said, the stem cuttings were fully rooted and blooming, and not far off from being able to be propagated again by the time i threw out the leaf cutting. So even if it would have eventually grown a new shoot, its so time inefficient that you would be better off just doing stem cuttings.
I've had mine for about 10 years! In the past, it was only by chance, that it bloomed.. I Googled how to take care of it, to get booms, n this is what I got!A BEAUTIFUL RED BLOOM!!!
That’s amazing! Congratulations 🥳

Hi i dont know if you will ever read this but of you do please help me 🙏 i have an anoectochilus and the root has rotten. I cut it off and placed it in a pot with leca and i bit of water at the bottom. Will it root again? 😢🤞 Thank you
I would put it in moist sphagnum moss in a closed container- in my experience that is the best way to rescue a jewel orchid.
Sorry for the late reply! Hope you managed to save it :)
