My granny taught some of us young grand children how to do step dancing. Which I am from North East Tennessee Appalachian Mountain region U.S.A. . Sometimes I yearn for those days my granny playing her guitar and or autoharp playing old ballads she learned in her younger days. She is passed on but those memories still live on in my ❤️ . Which I was the most eager to learn of the old ways of my folks.
A sensible light broom Erin.
Good ole Ray, still a gorn strong bor!
A horn-pipe is literally that, though, the Welsh pibgorn, a pipe using a horn for a bell. It then transferred to forms of bagpipe, and that's where I'd look for naval roots, as it was effective as a foghorn.
The Scots argument has its roots in the installation of Scottish refugees from the Clearances in the area. My own family, of Orkney origins but based in Caithness, were fisher-folk, so they loaded the boats as full as possible and sailed away, settling in Newcastle, where they became colliers. Many were based in the Great Yarmouth area, one day's sail from both London and Newcastle, because they could stay at home twice as often. The earliest record of the male line of my family is one such, before moving further south to become prominent as ship's engineers: the family nickname''s Jock in the Royal Navy.
What a fantastic record to have. Really useful and wonderful to watch. So generous of the step dancers to share their skills. Thanks.
Oh my goodness!! I've been looking for you for ages!! Saw your dad? dance once and loved it!! He saw me come in and blew a kiss! Mouthing.... Hello cousin!.. I'm not his cousin haha but our families are linked!... My Great grandad was Old Chicken Grice... My grandad was Chichen Grice...
