People are using the term time blindness as an excuse now for not being able to be in time for work etc. That pisses me off. I know time gets away from me so I make adjustments and set alarms etc. to keep me on track and out the door.

Please just one thing this is very interesting about the problem is that for people that are outside your country is very difficult to listen to a conversation so fast like this everything is so important that should be comprehended by the other people from outside the country. So please I ask you with all my heart next time try to be a little bit slower and simpler because for us is really important to understand everything thank you so much for all your work

I’m confused when she says psychologists can’t diagnose. My doctor made the referral for testing and sent me to a neuropsychologist but unfortunately the person wasn’t taking new patients. So not all doctors are able to diagnose. So who is supposed to be equipped to do so for adults?

When I was 26 and had my first child I recall thinking my house will never be clean or chores done again! Every time I has to stop to feed her, take care of her etc I felt I needed to start a task over. I didn’t but it feels like it. Like you’re start over all day! I still think I go back one step when interrupted during a big task. It’s a restart just a smaller restart now.

I understand PDA from the context you are explaining it, yet you do not explain how this can also be a a way to force a person to pursue things. Example would be you can do X, y or z, and a pda'er would prove that it it is possible. I wonder if the contradictions provide a pathway to overcome the contradictions.

PDAs from the Auspie viewpoint are not about lacking a feeling of control... it's about being taken over and unable to think. It's neurological. It's like saying a smack to the face is objectionable because it takes away control... NO. That model lacks understanding. It's about hitting a neurological reset button, mid flight. But if you have to over-simplify the model so that neurotypicals can understand how to behave... maybe it helps them. But for an auspie to be told that's what it's about... no. It's about not being forced. They are trying to keep a neurotypical's lack of understanding and consideration constantly jacking with their ability to process. Auspices have a broken incoming filter. ADHD have a broken outgoing filter. Neurotypicals some days... are just... oblivious.

the weird feeling where i've found the label PDA extremely helpful as an adult, but then i hear professionals talking about children and it suddenly is just "it's a unique challenge that this type of autistic kid need to be treated with basic human dignity, you're gonna need to rethink your whole approach" (and of course implicit in that is the horrifying converse about all the other autistic kids). like cool, i'm glad you're beginning to recognize this even if in an extremely limited way, but what the fuck?

PDA like some other disabling conditions related to brain function needs to be taken out of the arena of political correctness, where it is almost lauded, and brought back to the reality of needing treatment. The association with strong anxiety (suggests related to Amygdala) is why PDA needs to be taken seriously as disabling, not an adolescent rebellion related to identity formation.

As someone with ASD who has sought and participated in mental health services/therapy for 15 years plus... I don't at all see the issue as clinicians refusal to treat someone with ASD... The problems that I've faced first hand and so is the case with my friends and loved ones with ASD.. is that the disorder isn't even recognized for one.. as in no one caught on that I had it.. in all those years.. I was 40 and in treatment with multiple therapists when I found videos on RUclips that made me think I could have ASD and I went for a neuropsych eval but even since I've been diagnosed no one has been able to address explaining it or interventions. 2) clinicians have no idea how my brain or body are wired or how to help me, or my loved ones. Trying to help me as if I'm neurotypical has destroyed my romantic relationship and my sense of self-worth as the way they attempt to treat and diagnose is the complete opposite of what works for those of us that have ASD. I feel like the guest has his own separate experience because his special interest is in psychology. I don't think what he's saying as far as the issue of getting care is what he says at all. In the last 2 years my partner who has ASD has gone to 9 therapists.. and the only one that understands him or how to help him is so incredibly booked you can't get in to see him, he is a late diagnosised male. I have yet as a female been able to find anyone who can understand me and adequately help me. And it's my special interest and I'm intelligent. But I have ASD deficits. How can people treat a disorder they don't understand. They can't. All they're doing is putting Band-Aids on things. But even worse, sometimes they're actually digging the wound deeper. IFS works but only up to a certain point if your clinician doesn't understand ASD. CBT works but only up until you feel ashamed because your brain doesn't think that way because you have Alexithymia or mindblindness. There is zero adequate help and intervention and education about ASD level 1 for adults who are late diagnosed that is actually tailored to help them. Zero that's 100% for them/us.

There should be an fiduciary industry that investigates and audits the services and backgrounds of service providers to ensure that they hire top notch people. Endorsements should come from those who have moved in these places less than 4 months ago. This will ensure you will get an accurate picture of how well they are served as per your ASD needs immediately instead of shocking the "change adverse". population into gradual submission.

From speaking with folks who interrupt a lot, they seem to believe they have the right to interrupt in order to demand a correction or more accuracy, which of course they would never tolerate in others, BUT also this tends to ruin the flow and break trust as it signals they do not want to hear what others have to say the way they see it!
