N-3 Cub/Saito 65 - scratch build from a Guillows Cub Plan (1956). Built this in 1986 from the original Guillows Cub plan that I bought in the kit in 1956. I installed a Saito 65 4-cycle that purrrrs like a kitten. I paid 25 cents for that Guillows kit. It was the same cost as a copy of the Model Airplane News mag I also bought that saturday night at Stedmans 10cent store. Flying it with FrSky r...
Thanks for vid. Messy wiring.
Yep-messy but under control. Appreciate the honest opinion!
DO NOT solder the motor wires until you checked on which direction the motor spins, unless you want to fly backwards. For minute 10:12 ... these are for FLAPERONS. Sorry for micromanaging but the motor soldering is important!
The motor rotational direction can be reversed thru the ESC software available from most EXC manufacturers. Thanks for the reply--will post another video in next few days (before my voice gets that "winter croak")
I’m just curious, why do you call the Electronic Speed Controller an escape? Thanks for the video. It’s exactly what I was looking for
Thats my IT Work showing thru - ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) abbreviation is same as the Esc key on a computer keyboard 🤫
Thanks for the video, I was looking for guide about it. ;)
May put a Flight Controller in this one and fly over my friends backyard pool (maybe drop a small bottle of rum in the pool). With a note of course! And the invoice for the rum 🤠
On your last launch, it sounds to me you dont have enough throttle. Auto launch is trying to give you 35 degrees (to much if you ask me) of launch angle ( saw it in your setup in inav), and you stall out. That’s the abrupt left turn. On my maiden, stock motor and esc, I have auto launch permanently enabled, motor 100% throttle and it worked perfect. (15 degrees of launch angle). But then in my practice landing runs, I flew to slow in a turn, stalled out and ended up in a tree. Wish you luck in your next attempt and will follow your vids. Great work.
Thanks for the input - stalling seems to be a "thing" with this bird. It was made to ZIP not TRIP ! If I ever get the new motor I will lower the launch angle.
Hello! I didnt catch what ESC you are using and Im quite interested in it. Also big thumbs up! I also bought a dolphin rth but i will change the motor with an Emax ECO II 2807 1700kv, stock props and 4s 3000mah lipo, i also bought a Hobbywing Skywalker 60a esc but dont know if its good, btw its my first wing so i hope everything will be ok/ i will be using the atomrc f405 navifc becouse its the same as speedybee and matek chip
I use Holybro Tekko32 F4 45A Brushless ESC BLHeli_32 Bit 2-6s Dshot1200 Compatible The reason I like them is the BLHeli app that permits tweaking of settings. Thanks for the question--glad to see some useful info is gleaned from the video!
Just watched your flight videos. Doesn't seem too much different than about half of the Dolphin maiden flights. Did note your a lot older than me, I'm only 72😀. Will try stock motor initially and might try not using auto launch for first flight. There's just something about a screaming motor that makes me want to fiddle with the sticks.. That abrupt left bank on your second flight was scary. Good luck on next flight.
Still waiting for new motor?
@@john4570000 Yep--it looks like Canada Post is trying it out before me ! Will post a 3rd test as soon as I get it.
@@NorthIceMan Checked amp draw on stock motor yesterday. With 3s batt it was 23.8 amps at full throttle. Would think 4s would easily exceed 30A esc. Will try it out sometime next week with 3s.
@@john4570000 I run 4S - thats why I went with Holybro Tekko32 F4 45A Brushless ESC BLHeli Have not done amp test yet . I'm kina plain Jane - I listen, feel and thats my test. If I have xtra time to spare I might pull out my meters and take a reading but it rare. Now, when I do long range flights I will definitely take a look.
@@NorthIceMan Ever get your replacement T90 in? Another test flight? I maiden mine today. Launch was good & flew well but got it too slow and stalled into tall grass. No damage. Will try again tomorrow.
Excellent video.... I have been flying my dolphin for almost a year and I love it... Thank you and fly safe.
1st. One... 😂😁😆😂😋
Are the 2 plywood decks glued in or held in by double sided tape? My Dolphin came with 4 standoffs but no card describing screw hardware. Looking at the card in your video seems it says it's for flight controller. I'm using the Speedy Bee F405 Wing (not mini) but like yours I plan on attaching it to rear ply deck with the tape. Enjoyed watching your series, very informative..
The forward ply deck (batt compartment) came glued in, the back one wasn't. I simply "tack glued" the back one at the corners with hot glue. If you do this, check them once in a while to be sure they do not come loose (should not since the weight on it is minimal). I will be making another video soon - including test flights
Thanks. The included standoffs have no specific purpose? Will be interested in flight video
@@john4570000 I believe the standoffs are for the FC (Flight Controller). I don't use them due to vibration - I prefer a soft tape which absorbs vibration. I will try to get the test flight video and more out this weekend.
Just uploaded Session 5
I can't find the link to the double sided thick tape. Can you point me to it? Thanks

@@NorthIceMan thank you.
this is the mini lovely fc ps the dolphin fly good inav rocks
You use the USB to retrieve the contents of the SD card same as you do many other FC's
Was going to cover that process in my Session 3 but forgot )I need a short pencil!) I use the BlackBox Tools
Thank you for putting this video together. I myself wants to start flying an RC plane. My choice is the AtomRc Dolphin. I will be using your guide in building my first plane. This video is very informative.
Glad to help-if you have RC Airplane flying experience this aircraft is enjoyable-if no experience better get some before flying the Dolphin. One way to help , if its your first flying experience, is to be sure your iNAV settings are good and use well tuned AutoLaunch. I will cover these points in a future video (as soon as I get my new motor).
Session 5 just uploaded
thats cool
