To activate: Neutral-purple Hot-either one of the other wires to go one way Do not: Connect both the red and black from motor to the hot wire, you will probably summon magical smoke.

The heat mats turn on at 40° F and shut off at 60°F automatically and do a great job of keeping the batteries at a perfect 11°C and the warranty requires a minimum 10°C If the heat mats are running too much, I build a battery box around them and insulate it. This method is very efficient and effective.

There are transformers, but they work at ultrasonic frequencies. A 12kVA 60cy/sec transformer would weigh around 200lb plus the weight of the other inverter guts. Sol-Ark 15Ks weigh about 135lb.
There are a couple grant that currently cover the reimbursement for coursework, the largest being a grant from HECC (Higher Education Coordinating Commission).
I use that same type of water heater on my 60V array which also has my MPPT charge controller. At that voltage, it is 1/4 power. I run off a custom power point controller which only diverts excess energy, 1W to 400W. This system looks at array voltage and when that voltage exceeds the natural power point only enough power is diverted to bring the voltage back to power point. This is the ideal cheap method for efficient off grid water heating and it is quite cheap to build. I have three tanks. Two are in series and both can come on when there is enough power. One is only for laundry and the washer uses hot water for all cycles. The clothes come out steaming. No extra panels were needed to get this extra power to heat water. Every successful PV system has excess power. No charge controller, battery or inverter capacity is needed making this the most cost effective method for water heating.
Thanks for that info, I noticed that with a few other peoples videos that the heating element doesn’t get into the VMP. But panels are so stinking cheap, just throw a few more on the roof and call it a day.
@@fargoloomis3569 Yes, nobody cares and nobody has any understanding of electricity in the solar world.
Nuclear is green
Ice suspect this is a high-quality unit but people have had their charges fail and other things go wrong so it may not be great if it’s hard to fix
Have the same inverter! Great inverter
Have the same inverter! Great inverter
Glad to see some more videos on the MidNite AIO inverter!
Great experiment
This could be good for keeping a cistern from freezing in the Winter. Maybe i will try this.
I was thinking about that application, I think that’s a great idea!
You could at least pour some clean water into the bucket
Tadpole hot tub
Really good unit nice video just wish it would had been a low frequency inverter I rarely repair low frequency inverters most of the ones that go bad are high frequency
Remember that you get DC from the solar panels, and there will be sparking in the thermostat in the water heater as it is made for AC.
Could lead to a 🔥 😮
What if you just applied wattage to a lower element without a thermostat? Keep the wattage fairly low and in a worse case scenario the relief valve would release excess heat or pressure, but would probably never happen if you were to keep the wattage low.
Split up the load to multiple resistors
Resistive elements don’t care about ac or dc, just voltage in my experience. Whenever I lookup an ohms calculator, it doesn’t ask about ac or dc and when purchasing heating elements, this one just says 48v not ac or dc.
@@fargoloomis3569It's not about the elements, it's the actual switch inside the thermostat that, when it disconnects, it could produce a self-sustaining electric arc. Especially when you have voltages above 20V.
Ecoflow 3kwh ???
Hi , just a question. Are you using a low frequency inverter? They are designed to start heavy motors. They can with stand large in rush current for starting large inrush current. I have a 2 horsepower splinker pump i have ran for 8 hours off a low frequency inverter. The system i was using at the time was 12 vdc strpped up to 230 vac split phase inverter. Invertor weighted 40 pounds some has larger internal transformers. At 12 vdc i was drawing aprox 570 amps off battery and 27 amps from invertor. Once running dc amps dropped to aprox 160 amp ac amps 7 to 8 amps if i remember. With my solar panels it can be done startup is the issue. But i dont recommend a 12 volt dc system i now use 48 vdc now. I only did to see if it was possible for a off grid sysyem since i am not off grid. But very possible. For me i would run a heavy pump to fill a water storage tank. Than use a 12 volt RV pump for water in a off grid application. Thank for sharing Mike
Yes, this is a low frequency transformer based 48v system and is capable of 8,000 watts of inrush but can’t handle the pump still.
Two of the busted panels wired in series would be 6.4 ohms, which would provide more power than 24v from the battery. I have 3/320w panels wired in series directly to a 240v 4500w lower element in a 50 USG heater. Has been working great for 6 years. Sun is out water is heating.
I have done these tests a few years ago. I use a 3000w 240 vac house water heater that I run off my inverter at 120vac . Uses around 750w at 120v which is a much easier load for my system. I have a transfer switch to switch from one to the other when I need or feel like it. Welcome to check out my channel. Click on my name or picture and go to videos. Lots of solar videos a couple years ago. I install solar now but havent made any new videos for a couple months. Be safe. Cheers
Good work!!!!! Good thinking! Keep it up!
Just wondering if you've had any issues with your handle? Mine just broke and your video is the only sunmar repair video I am finding on here. I have had a crack in the plastic and knew this was coming. The new one is on order, but I need to be able to turn the drum before it arrives. Any suggestions? I'm at a loss.
Not bad. The sunlight is going to be there either way, so you might as well get some free power from it!
Cool
Here is a couple of suggestions: 1. I bought that same MPPT solar charge controller many years ago. It required you to turn the controller on for it to work every day. So go check it the next day to see if it is in fact working or not. It will work, it is just annoying to need to turn it on every day. 2. If you get multiple, say three 50 watt panels, you can mount them above the mower and use them as a canopy to shade you from the sun. If you wire all 3 of them in series then you would end up with 54 volts(18 volts per panel). This would then allow you to get a more standard MPPT charge controller instead of one that has a buck converter built in. Just a couple of suggestions! You’ve got a great start going! Keep it up!
I had the same frustration with the charge controller until I learned how to program it properly. Thanks for the suggestion but I like to mow under trees.
Nice work 👍

What happens when you get a floating neutral?
You’ll get weird voltages.
Smart move going with a low frequency, transformer based Magnum inverter instead of the low surge, Chinese made, high frequency Sol-Ark.
Sol-Ark 15K and be done with it and it doesn’t look like a mess waiting to catch fire.
The 15k is too big and expensive for my situation. What’s waiting to catch fire?
I assume you normaly usse 110v 2 phases and neutral. where yoz get your neutral from ....a transfomer ?
240v split phase from grid and inverter, grid and inverter have neutrals that are combined in house panel Grounds are also combined on separate ground bar. Don’t use this method to disconnect neutrals. Not code compliant and not necessary.

Very Cool, what type of batteries and where did you get them from?
Very interesting, how much lawn can you mow with it??
I have mowed sporadically for about 3 hours and have about 50% capacity left. So maybe 5 hours continuous.

Looks like a fun project. Thanks for the video. I have a ryobi electric riding more (rm480ex I think). Didn't really like it with the original lead acid. When they went, replaced them with some chins LFP. Works great, and I can hook up a 3000W inverter to it when power goes out.

Hello Fargo! A friend of mine gave me 2 pack of those Mobius Power so I could make some FPV drone 4s battery. I did open then but I couldn't see any information about capacity Mah or discharge rate. Do you know the information for those 18650? Because for drones i need high discharge rates.
