Good things to consider and ponder: - The "world" does not come together for Christmas. Much of the world either hates Jesus and His Church or considers Him less than whom He is, God. The universal, invisible Church comes together to rejoice that God has entered the world and kept yet another promise; a promise like no other. - Has this body of believers read through the Scriptures and understood what the Lord's Table and Supper is and how it should be practiced? This act of communion and reminder of covenant which assures our faith (the Bride communes with the Bridegroom) is tying the believer to the Passover meal the night Jesus was betrayed, through present time as the Church and anticipates the Glorious Feast in Revelation. I cannot reconcile the "Drive-thru" communion that is practiced here. Do they read in Scripture that when the Lord celebrated the Passover that the elements of Life and Covenant were handled in such an irreverent way? Do they foresee the Marriage Supper in such a chaotic and disconnected fashion from the Bridegroom? Revelation 19. Huldrych Zwingli was wrong to demote the Lord's Supper in the reactive manner he did. I exort this body to read Scripture and Church history to understand and elevate the Lord's Table to it's sacred and rightful position that the early Church held. - In Scripture, only the church or better still " the assembly" is mentioned as being led and overseen by elders. A Board of Directors is a worldly business framework that has no place in His Church. No one should be surprised that weakness in The Church is worsened by this type of structure and not focused on the qualifications of overseers who are older, family men - not business men. No church is led by a shepherd (pastor); Jesus is the head and all (no matter the gift/function) are below Him. The Church has one Leader/Head and one body made up of believers with different gifts. Shepherding is but one gift. All "staff" must submit to the unique function of the elders. Even the elders submit to one another as they submit to Christ as they will be held accountable. Any other structure is dangerous and unbiblical. - Why the Spider-Man analogy? God in His three persons is nothing like any fictional "superhero". God is eternal and omnipresent; He created Time for us and stands outside of it. We should avoid comparing The Creator this way, especially to the unbeliever who likely has a worldview that is not biblical. While He did come down to us, He is now seated in Glory. - There was much reference to the idea of "with" and looking toward the End yet it was more focused on a practical, worldly application than a Kingdom, eternal one. Emmanuel is "God with us" that was certainly true at His birth through His ascension to Heaven. Afterwards, God is with us via the authority Jesus and the Father gives the Holy Spirit who indwells in the believer whom remains faithful to the very end of the age. Yet again, we are sent/cast into the world to do His will and perform the Great Commission. Even the vine analogy in John 15 makes clear that the branches are sent from the vine - we are not equals with the Vine. What was missing was a more Scriptural assurance that with the Holy Spirit in us and walking in/live by the Spirit (obedience to/hearing/acting upon) we are given fruit - one which is God's Peace. Jesus is not our travelling buddy to give us high fives and hugs - He is only our friend and we only love Him if we obey Him, otherwise we are apart from Him.
