This video shows step wise procedure for conducting foam drainage analysis. This test is useful for understanding the effectiveness of air-entrainment admixtures (AEAs) with respect to the stability of developed air-system before using AEAs in the cementitious mixtures. The test can also be used in the presence of other chemical admixtures and supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs).

Determining Water Sorptivity of Cementitious Systems (Complete Test Video)
Hi sir.. please provide 2 nd video of this procedure...how to titrate this one.
Hi sir, i need to do this test.. Would you please say any lab in chennai this test is available sir..
Can you please finish this video? Part 2: Titration of the prepared sample against standard silver nitrate solution. Or just explain the steps and the calculations for finding chloride concentration %
@@AF-wn3sk I will do it within a week.
Do we need calcium carbonate solution for testing sorptivity
You do not necessarily need calcium carbonate solution to perform sorptivity test on any cementitious systems. All you need is tap water in accordance with ASTM C1585 standard as demonstrated in this video. I believe there is a South African standard for water sorptivity of cement mortar and concrete that makes use of lime water.
Thank you So much sir.
Most welcome Sushil ☺️

Azhar, AASHTO T260 is the standard.

Of course Azhar. Anytime.
Sir, what is the normality of the nitric acid used
Hi Paul. I do not remember the normality. I followed AASHTO T260 which just says to use concentrated nitric acid (specific gravity-1.42).
You can get same as shown in the video. It works well. It’s from Fischer scientific.
Sir, can you please upload part 2?
Sorry. I will try to upload soon. Got really busy with works. Thank you
Please provide contact details of supplier for colorimeter
Hi Jamal. I dnt have any contact for calorimeter. I can find one online and paste the link here. What part of the world are you trying to find the suppliers? India? US? Europe?
Sir, please upload the second part of this video or share the link regarding to second video
Hi kavya. I did not upload it because I don’t have the complete data. I can do one thing. Just compile what I have and put it here this weekend if it helps. Any confusions or concerns, do let me know. I see that others also want it. I feel that the particular standards do not clearly explain the procedure. May be that’s why all find it difficult to follow.
Hi. Your presentation is nice. Can you upload an example of how to calculate parameters in Excel and plotting charts?
Thank you, Senthamil. I will very soon upload a new video to show an example for calculating the sorptivity parameters and charts 🙌
Hi. I am waiting for your upload

Hello, thank you very much for your kind words. I am glad that you find it useful. I did not make a video on air void analysis when I prepared my specimens last time. I will do a video soon on the analysis part and post it. Hope you will receive the notification when I do :-)

Hello Yanhai. I am really happy to hear that you finally succeeded :-) I will try to do the video and post it at the earliest. For field test how do you decide safe limit?
That’s a very good question, Pratik. For instance, for the overlays, depending on the overlay type (epoxy overlay, uhpc overlay etc.,), different state/central agencies (such as state Department of Transportation) have specified the limiting or the safer values. You can also get such values from already published papers/literature. [for example: If you are interested in a particular value, many of the overlay types have a overlay-to-substrate bond strength limit of 250psi].
Can you please provide the link to other video which talks about titration?
I haven’t uploaded that yet. Had frgotten. I will upload it ASAP and share the link with you. Thank you very much :-)

Hello, did you find the proper literature for the angular distribution of the BSE when tilting the sample? I am using a 4 quadrant detector and try to elaborate on surface tilt angle for using method c) shadow-bse to reconstruct a full 3d modell. However it is hard to find the edge when cosine lambert distribution is tipping over to forward scattering direction. I have found so many different values, over 30° tilt it will get away from lambert, another one says bow 60° to assume lambert is ok. Do you know any citation, or have more in depth knowledge about tilted surfaces and bse angular distribution? Thanks for your time to make this nice video.
Hello. Sorry that I missed your message. I do not have the citation or reference. I will try looking for one. I make the videos (especially the SEM-related) based on a specialised material science SEM and Auger electron microscopy course that I attended and learnt in school. I do not really work in and out of SEM, so I really have not had an opportunity to work with different configurations etc that you are talking about. Sorry that I cannot answer your question. I will get back to you in case I find an answer to your question. Thank you very much for the interaction and the question (I will try to find my professor that taught me this course. He has been working with SEM for the last 30-35 years. He should be able to get this information :) ).
I dont see the fibers in the matrix, also could summarise your results please? What does a good or bad workability means in technical terms for UHPC? Thanks
Hi Raphael. Very good catch and a very good question. My focus during this work was in fact to develop and analyze UHPC mixes with and without fibers in the lab conditions. This was intended to specifically the air entrapment issues under different mixing conditions and parameters. A good or a bad workability is contextual and it is specific to the desired end application (for example, as an UHPC overlay material or as flowable concrete for accelerated bridge construction and pouring in construction joints). A good workability can be understood via flow tests on UHPC mixes and a flow of 7-10 inches indicates good workability. You can learn more from the following link probably: www.fhwa.dot.gov/publications/research/infrastructure/structures/14084/14084.pdf
