Awesome video! The editing, narration and shots are excellent! Thanks for joining the mighty Gambler crew! 😊
Thanks very much. I’m looking forward to a next trip on the Gambler. Is this Jillian?
Sea Robin gets a bad rap. I used to cook it fresh on the Gambler for lunch when I worked with my dad Capt. Bob on the boat. This recipe looks AMAZING! We can't wait to try it. Hope to see you out on the Gambler again!
I just checked Gambler’s schedule yesterday; looks like she’s finished for the season. I’m ready to head out on her again. Love that vessel, captain and crew. Good folks!
Looks good Sir Robin.
It is tasty.
Could definitely do without the music.
The music was being played on board.
Bob's a legend! We did many trips years ago when nighttime bluefishing was hot in Point Pleasant. We also did several 24 hour tuna trips. Bob and his crew always do their best to put you on the fish. BTW - Great Video!
Thanks very much for sharing your wonderful comments. 👍🏼🎣
I like snagging bunker too I want to do something with them tho
I use for bass bait, and in garden.
Is it actually good?
Yup…wouldn’t fib to you.
Three things have contributed to the decline in fishing at Mauch Chunck. 1. The lake is sitting in. I started fishing there in 2014 after I retired from the Army. The upper end, where the stumps are, was three feet deep in 2014, there were hundreds of fish up there. Now it is barely 12 inches. 2. The vegetation changed from grasses, which was great for the prey fish and the predators, has been replaced by Lilly pads, which doesn't attract and fish. 3. The county conservation center made it known they would like anglers to drop off caught fish, which they feed the the caged raptors. Many hundreds of fish are removed every winter. I rarely fish thete anymore. Years ago I'd catch 20 to 30 nice sized bass and huge pickerel in an evening after supper. Now, if I catch three or four, it is a good day.
Silting in is a common problem at many lakes. It’s an expensive problem to fix.
Thanks, brings back many wonderful memories of fluke and flounder fishing with my dad 60+ years ago. 👍
That's awesome
Kayaking and fishing in these waters is not for me. I'm 75 and fished for years. I need room in my skiff for a cooler with goodies, 5 gal pail for live bait like killies, eels, etc and 2 fishing poles and that's if I go alone. With a friend a larger boat is needed. A 15 HP motor does the trick ! I loved fishing on the rock jetties in Long Branch before they were covered with sand!😢 Caugh some nice Stripers, Fluke and Blackfish !😂
You’ve got the spirit. Keep going as long as you can. There’s peace of spirit out there.
Thats a bait fish😂😂
@@Gibson-md9yi yes...of course it is. I mention that on the video.
@@raptradventures4544 I always wondered if people ate that
Nice… ive been thinking of taking my yak to that area. I’ll do it before year is over. I’ve wondered about taking it out in the ocean. There arent that many vids of ocean kayak trips out front
Thanks great picture
Dude what is that small sht in your hand
Thanks for the video - I think you have the fish out of water too long - a quick picture would be fine
is this pogi?
I think you may mean "porgie". No, this is not porgie. It is bunker. They are two different kind of fish.
yes, bunker are called pogi in some places.
No this is pogies
What a awesome fishing adventure ! I was thrilled to be able to take part in it 😊 Dave , you caught a LOT of fish !!!
I tried my best...so many lure changes and trolling/casting style change-ups. You landed the best fish of the tourney! 👍
Looks like a good time with good folks... very nice
I'm in Bristol, in Bucks Co. , really need to visit Berks...
There are lots of great Berks County places to explore fishing.
I've always wanted to catch some river smallies! Nice work out there !💪🎣
They're out there waiting for you.
Nice Job, enjoyed watching the video. Smallies are my favorite!!
Thanks Kirk. 👍🎣
Great job on your video buddy. Enjoyed watching it. Also listening to you talk about Schuylkill River. Back in 94-95 a buddy and me floated the schuylkill duck hunting. I forget where we put in at. It was alòng 422 in Reading and floated down to Douglasville. Im from Pottstown. 👍🏻. You get a chance stop by my videos.

Thanks for sharing this video dave. I was thrilled to take part in this adventure! Friends, fun and fishing , It doesn't get much better than that.
Let's keep having adventures!
Surprising great video and I especially liked the underwater footage and the great narration.
Thank you very much!
A fun watch! Thanks. Aquatic life aside, I am ever intrigued by the human lives lost on a wreck such as the one so vividly pictured here. Oh....and amazing how you caught a great shot of the "sunset" so early in the morning, on the eastern horizon...😉
Caught a nice salmon and the pre soaked cedar plank to cook it on😂
Blue Marsh Lake! im about 30 minutes north.
Good to know they are there. I live across the street from that spot. I know rite where it is. Looking for a boat now. Can't wait to get some of them myself. Thanks for the vid
Have fun!
They're all over that stretch from the bridges down to the dam.
Just watched your video for the Susquehanna river, great place to fish and that is a good spot, we bank fish about a mile down the river from where you were
Great. Fish on! 👍
Slight correction: you weren't drifting, you were trolling with the kicker motor on Multnomah channel (part of the Willamette system).
I've eaten sea robins. They are delish!
There ya go! 👍
Fishing for bass out of season.
Nope. Fishing for walleye. Sometimes there's a bycatch but if the species is out of season they're let go of course, as the video clearly shows.
Nope. Bass were bycatch and released.
Cool video!
Thank you 👍
Thanks for sharing! This is awesome. My son and husband had a great time!
It was great to fish with them. Lots of enthusiasm. 👍
Actually the Multnomah Channel.
Good show!
Thank you.
Evan and Kevin! Two of my favorite fishy guys.
here is a funny possibility so I am 65 and I recall that about 40 yrs ago I used to love to share this thought about Lobster so I would say " you tell me what kind of food would ot taste great if put it on a fork then drenched each bite in hot melted butter" suffice it to say everyone had an epiphany another observation,, I also recall learning also about 40 yrs ago, when i was deeply in love with Lobster someone a fact of history got to me, namely that there was a time 1890??? when they were considered trash and were plentiful and had ironically enough the same nagative connotation that the Sea Robin has had UP UNTIL NOW for those in the know you , my friend , may have influenced a million people, and here is the exquisite irony , someday who the f knows how bad things will get,,,,,,,,,,,, someday the Robin will be expensive, and of course over fished just an observation about the body type,,,,,, it is one of those species where the head , if r=that size , on another species would be like a 7-8 pound fish also a funny thing when people get them on the line the first run makes you think you have a ten pound bass,, ?why I figure that they get insane leverage from those huge fins , sort of the way a skate uses its wings, to insane force
You may well be right. There are written accounts of New England prisoners who rebelled against the foid their captors served them. Yup, they rebelled against having to eat lobster all the time. It was ridiculously plentiful and the cheapest protein the captors had to feed the prisoners. Perspective can create irony. As for the Sea Robin's ability to fight above its weight class, you may be 100% right. Those double wings can be splayed to create lots of friction and drag. Thanks for an interesting comment. 👍
I like sea robins. The meat is not bad.
I’m glad to find a nice guy who is friendly enough to reply to comments and not leave us in the dust, I need help, I fish in great bay New Jersey and I tried fishing for blowfish and I got nothing but a bunch of stupid dogfish, a horseshoe crab, and almost a fluke, but I went chumming and used salted clam for bait but no matter what I can’t catch one, I’m even fishing in spots where people say they are! But thanks to people overfishing, they are gone and all the RUclipsrs get what they want and it’s annoying because every time I look it up they are only pictures of them and a bunch of crappy guides to overfishing them that don’t work, please help, I have done all the steps and still nothing
Hi. I'm always happy to help if I can. I've never fished Great Bay, but if people are catching Blowfish there, you too should be able to hook up. Try fishing in 8' of water, more or less. Try chumming with clam logs. Salt clams, cut squid or Blood Worm Fishbites work best and be SURE to not use too large a piece of bait. The blowfish mouth us small but they gave big teeth which empowers them to easily steal large bait chunks. Folks use all kinds of rigs but I think it's best to start with the blowfish rigs you can buy at shore bait and tackle stores. The hooks are perfectly sized. Use a one ounce sinker to start. Light line. Don't need more than 8 pound test but you can go up to 12 if you want to hang onto to any dogfish sharks for fun. No casting. Just bait, drop over side until you feel sinker hit bottom, then use your fingers on the reeling hand to hold some line so you can feel the subtle hits. Use a gentle jigging action, raising your bait maybe 10" from bottom and let it drop again. Repeat. If you feel a good hit, don't jerk up to hookset like with other fish. Instead, use a gentle and steady reel and raise which will keep your hook behind the front teeth of the fish. Be sure to gently swing the fish over and into your boat immediately so if it falls off, it falls off into your boat. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions and surely let me know if you're successful. Good luck, have fun.
@@raptradventures4544 thank you for the info, I used clam chum that day with salted clams and there were dogfish, I think I didn’t cut the bait up small enough, but I think the dogfish scared them away because we caught 6 dogfish
@@raptradventures4544 I’ll try barnegat bay next, and if I can’t catch any I’ll jump from locations there
@@melonboi186 Try again with smaller bait pieces. If there were that many dogfish around, it may be that they spooked off the blowfish. On the other hand, if you field dress (gut, gill and bleed) the dogfish and have the ability to put the body on ice inmediately, you can get two nice filets per fish and it's good grill fare.
@@melonboi186 Be safe. Good luck!
Hi Dave, great video! I’ve never launched from there, is there parking available for an suv with a kayak trailer? TIA.
Yes there is plenty of room for an SUV and trailer. They really did a great job creating this park and it's still kind of unknown and unspoiled.
@@raptradventures4544 do you park in the parking lot, or on the street with the trailer? Thank you.
@@reinaldomoll You can park in either parking lot. When we trailered a couple of we just parked horizontally across several spaces along the rear fence. Easy enough. Very calm and laid back there.
Wow, you really made me hungry!
So good.
Just wondering how hard of a paddle it is from Watertown to the BI buoy?
Waretown I think you mean. I've learned that Waretown offers the closest approach to BI for easy kayak launching. I've been out on calm days with slack tide and it's an easy one mile one way trip out. I've been out on days with sustained winds, let's say above 15MPH and it's impossible. It all depends on tide, wind and waves. This video was made on an easy tide time but there was lots of 3 to 4' high wave chop from all of the power boats moving in every direction. Once you get used to that type of wave, if you have a stable hull made for waves, it's no big deal. It's better out there on weekdays. Weekends get dangerous due to high boat traffic. Use a red flag on your kayak so it sticks up several feet above the water and yak for safety.
Love this video too much, cannot wait for your next video! Thanks!
Working on the next one. Coming soon. Thanks for being here with us.
this is awesome
Thanks Jack.
In the late 70s I would fish the Wilson, Clackamas,Rogue and Nehalem rivers and Tillamook bay. beautiful areas. I never got a chance to fish the Willamette.
The wonderful Willamette awaits you! 👍
really good to see kevin grey back in action and on some fish.good work guys i enjoyed your video.
hey there ... I have a question when the lake switches in the summer heat does this technique change. "thermocline"
Great question! So, that themocline can be between 18 and 25 feet, depending on exposure to sun and many fish will hand just around that differentiating zone in the water. Understanding where that zone is can help you to adapt to where your dropping your bait/lure to. It's a change in the technique because you're not dragging the bottom, but fish like largemouth should still be lounging in the shallow shoreline or edge water near structure to feed, so the technique shown here will still work. Same for the random muskie that might be lurking in the shallows.
