June 2012 - first outing with New Moon following restoration

I was fortunate to purchase the original model works demo engine back in autumn of 2011. She was in need of some TLC but mechanically sound. So began 6 months of works stripping her down, repainting, metal plating and some basic mechanical works. This was her first outing paired with a new scale wagon from Berrybrooks steam. Sadly most of the rallies in 2012 were rained off but she's been out a...

I was contacted by a viewer asking if I could show the sequence of how to fire the engine from cold, hope this is what was wanted Where the charcoal goes in, add enough to cover the fire bars to a reasonably thick layer. • @MikeL0ck

      Matt Seymour When you move the flywheel if the mechanical pump is engaged you should see water coming down the pipe to what would be the clack

    • @MikeL0ck
      @MikeL0ck 7 лет назад

      Matt Seymour You should see water coming from the pump to that clack yes The ball bearing should be free to move up in the clack when the engine is cold as there is no pressure to hold it down on the seat You can find out by pushing a small rod (paper clip should do on that scale) up into the clack If you don't have water coming from the pump you need to check the pump feed and return valve are all correct If you don't have water coming from the

      @MikeL0ck 7 лет назад

      Matt Seymour if you take the pipe off the clack do you see water pumping ? If yes then you need to check the ball on the clack to make sure it's not seized and water can pass into the boiler

    • @MikeL0ck
      @MikeL0ck 7 лет назад

      Hi Sorry I only just saw your questions. You need either parafin soaked charcoal or wood to get a fire going Once the charcoal is burning well and formed a good hot layer you can add small amounts of coal Firing on small engines is a constant thing little and often is the only way really You'll need what coal merchants term "beans" Not sure what you mean by priming the mechanical pump ? As long as the tender is full it will pull water .. there should be a valve which you turn to send water into boiler or back to tender

    • @mattseymour8637
      @mattseymour8637 5 лет назад

If you go to Sounds / Lieferliste, you'll see it listed and all the sounds files compatible with that chip BUT at that time i had already fitted a Lenz DCC chip to run the motor / lights, so the Dietz was an add-on, via the SUSI link.
