First...atvs are not known for having good alternators..so instead of witching out free spool it out so you have plenty of battery to winch when you need it...next, even though now you know from experience, straight pulls only...if possible..though I know from experience you do what you gotta do.
that's because your pull angle was way too much. All winches have a incident of angle limit
