John Muir trail hike Diane Rinehart
This video was made for friends and family. Thank you for all the love and support
Hiking the JMT had been a life dream and then became a life goal after I broke my femur 5 years ago. On the couch, non-weight bearing in Utah and my BFF passed a few days later of breast cancer in California. We had backpacked together for years and our favorite place was Yosemite. Got that Golden ticket, did more to understand, work through and then heal from most all of the leg pain. Trained and felt my friend’s presence on so many winter, mountain hikes while training. And, at 62, felt strong, ready, humble yet confident. So I went for her, I went for me and I went with ...

Insanely hard not to lose hair ties!
Did you make any videos regarding your pre-planning and training? You mentioned in the beginning just how prepared you felt.
Hi there, no, I didn’t make any videos on that but I did train through a great mountain guy online. Chase Mountains. He has a RUclips channel and chasemountains.io/. I signed up to train on his app and he was the ticket for me to feel prepared physically. Hope that helps.
@@dianegrinehart which program did you purchase? he has quite a few so I'm not sure which to choose. My jmt hike starts July 17, so I have a little over 3 months to train.
I did the cornerstone program. I think it would be perfect for you too. And you’ve got enough time. I started about when you did and had a marvelous adventure. Going the opposite way to September. Hopefully good luck and have a great time.
nice video but too much talking
For those of us who are planning to do this hike for the first time, we appreciate the details and the thoughtful way everything was explained. There’s plenty of non talking jmt videos that you can listen to so this comment was really not needed to make. 🙄
Great review, keep going.
Diane, really loved this film! Wonderful scenery and great commentary along the way. Your connection with and appreciation of the Sierra, the trail, your fellow hikers and your inner self and experience were all wonderful to see. Thanks so much for sharing this!
Nice video! Did you happen to hike the JMT again this summer? I thought I saw you and your friend at Rae Lakes. I was going SOBO.
Yes. Sadly she suffered from mild altitude skinless and exhaustion so had to evacuate to Roads End. I’m planning on coming back at that trailhead this summer and going to thru to Tahoe
Watched every minute of your video. It's real and very well-documented! That rock slide was incredible! I appreciate how you gave a sort of overall view of the passes and valleys on a day by day basis with your geological knowledge. I begin my trip on Aug 21 (2022) with a hiking partner I met on Ladies of the JMT (saw your patch!). Thanks for all of your efforts in posting it, Diane!
So happy for you and thank you for the kind words. Have an amazing time. I’m going nobo this year in July. Heart is full
Great video
Great vid …. completely enjoyed it. just got my permit for 2022 Aug 1 start date loved the commentary
one more thing…. I especially like the comment that you were happy about looking like someone could ask you for weed lol
What a beautiful thru hike. I loved this ❤️ Thanks Tiki bar!
just came across this video and wow! what a gift you are to this world. i am hoping to do the JMT solo sometime in the near future. thank you for the inspiration! sending so much love and peace to you, beautiful human <3
Thank you so much you made my night. Let me know if you get close to your plans or need any help
I didn’t finish the video yet, but can you elaborate on the water bottle cap you have? Thank you. Brand or link
Yes! I found this company in Israel and have purchased a couple of the tubes. I find i drink more water if I have a tube but don’t want to use a bladder because I can’t see how much water I have left. Here’s the link sourceoutdoor.com/product/convertube/
Awesome video
Fabulous doc of JMT. Watched thru the middle of the night while sleeping. Will go back and watch it all. You had such an important message at the end for us as a society coming out of this Plandemic. Very insightful you are. And a wonderfully grounded woman. Thank you and hope to meet u on the trail someday.
Wow! I’ve watched a lot of JMT video and yours is awesome! I Summitted Whitney on 8/9, 3 days behind you. Thanks for the effort to document your journey and the narrative too!
Correction, 8/4 summit, not 8/9.
That lake view amazing!! Awesome upload and hiking vlog!
What a wonderful document this is, and a beautiful testament to all those people in your life. The final three minutes may have been the best part. I was somehow saddened as I was reminded of missed opportunities, but my heart was filled at the same time. Thank you. I desperately want to do the JMT!
Thanks for sharing your trip. I enjoyed your video and learned a lot in the process. The JMT is definitely on my bucket list!
Amazing video...thank you! Hoping to do my first JMT this year depending on snowpack/waterflow. Your journey was so fun to follow! The comment on the buckwheat/covid tattoo at the end was hilarious! Thank you for sharing and bring us along on this excellent adventure!
Hi Diane, may I inquire?🙏🏼 Would you be able to advise me about the use of a Dyneema free standing tent please? I am planning to purchase a free standing Dyneema tent from Zpacks for my backpacking trip in the Sierra for the summer of 2022. Have used a traditional double wall tent all my life. The Dyneema tent fabric seems to be very thin, and my main concern is durability. Would appreciate any comments that you could share with me on this aspect of backpacking. Thanks in advance!!
I used to use a double walled tent too and switched recently to the Zpack Duplex. You will have to be a bit more careful but i did not use a ground sheet and had no issues. Condensation was the biggest issue, so choose sites with that in mind. Away from lakes and steams when you can and keep at least one fly open if you can and use a lightweight towel to wipe the inside off in the morning. Have fun!!
@@dianegrinehart thank you very much for your advice!
Was the bucket hat not working out before Mammoth Lakes?
It didn’t have ties and kept blowing off my head! Picked up the other in Mammoth and it was great
I caught some beautiful rainbows at that river spot just inside kings canyon! Great videos
Thanks for taking me on that journey, Diane. You have such an amazing soul.
Great Job!! Thanks for sharing your journey - Hope to hike the JMT someday soon.
